Coast Guard gets an at large bid to the DIII NCAA tournament. They face Catholic at Muhlenberg on Sat, Nov 15, in a first round match up. First appearance since 1981! Congrats to Chris Parsons and his squad.

Well, Gang, it's over. With Coast Guard's loss to Catholic University today, none of the military academies have any more games scheduled.

It’s November 18, the regular season is over, and there are no more games left for the military academies.

With their 11-4-5 record, Navy is #53 in the RPI.

    At 6-8-6, Army is #111.

At 7-7-4, Air Force is 123.

The Coaches’ Poll came out today, and no military academy got any ranking votes.

And after drowning in the playoffs, Coast Guard Academy finished the year with no ranking votes in Division 3.

And Dave Brandt might be leaving Navy...

And I wouldn't be surprised if some ambitious program hires Russell Payne, either.

That would be the biggest news for a service academy team this year.

Also Navy (Joe Greenspan) and Army (Winston Boldt) lose their best player to commissions so they could be worse off next year.

If a Patriot League coach is going to get hired, it should probably be the guy with 4 championships in the last nine years as opposed to a coach who has 1 in 6 years or none in 5 years. Maybe Brendan Nash will get a look somewhere soon.

How many NCAA titles has he won?

How widely regarded are his teams for their style of play?

How many years of military service do his players have to commit to in the recruiting process?

    Apples and oranges.

Division III National Championships earn you the right to get a Division I job which Brandt did. After that it is what you do at Division I. None have won a national championship and none ever will at a Patriot League school. One has been to the NCAA four times, the another has been there once and another not a all.

You can look at another way:

28 full scholarships vs 0 scholarships.

Not sure about style of play but historically Bucknell is among the leaders in the league in goals scored and pretty comparable with Navy over the years. I would highly regard scoring goals to be the key component of attractive soccer.

Brandt and Payne have done great jobs but I think they have been less productive than Nash at Bucknell. Just a point but to say Apples and Oranges ... they play in the same league, each has strengths for their program and drawbacks. I'd say its pretty solid comparison.

Hey SoBs, as a thank you for our continued support and passion, the Union have offered the Sons of Ben free tickets (for you and your family) to the 2016 Army-Navy Cup being held at Talen Energy Stadium on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7pm. Tickets are free and you can pick them up at the tailgate on Saturday or a limited number will be available on the capo stand during halftime (do not bother the capos or drummers during the match). There will not be another opportunity to get the tickets before the Cup. Hopefully this will ease the withdraw of live soccer between the 9/10 home match and the 10/1 red bull away match.

“The Army-Navy Cup—pitting the Midshipmen of Navy against the Black Knights of Army, is one of the hottest collegiate soccer rivalries in the country. Crowds of over 10,000 have supported this event each of the last two years here at Talen Energy Stadium, and it continues to grow. If you plan on attending, come early! Toyota Plaza, adjacent to the stadium will be filled with interactive military assets, strength tests, rock wall and all kinds of games. Plus, there will be up to 900 Midshipmen and Cadets in attendance to interact with and active military personnel there to answer your questions too. So, c’mon out and have a great night of soccer & family fun, courtesy of our friends at Philadelphia Union.”
