He is not only a key player because of that.

It's also that he played by far the most minutes of any Liverpool midfielder. He has played 200 minutes more than Henderson, 800 minutes more than Fabinho in this incomplete season.

In 2018-19 he played 800 minutes more than any other midfielder, and in 2017-18 he played 300 minutes more than #2 Henderson. In his first season 2016-17 he was less than 100 minutes behind Milner.

He is consistently the most used midfielder by Klopp, who is universally recognized as one of the best coaches around. As a result, he has almost automatically also many more crucial goals as the handful Origi has. Last season he broke the deadlock against bunkering Cardiff (Liverpool had 1 shot on target in the first 60 minutes) and against Tottenham too in the league.

In his very first season (2016-17) there were crucial goals against Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea. Plus the goal against Burnley and Middlesbrough that made them qualify for the Champions League in the first place (after a two year absence).

Wijnaldum is not Ruud Gullit but he balances his game very well and his control in tight spaces is very good. Liverpool has in the meantime signed other midfielders as Fabinho, Shaqiri (a CL level player), Naby Keita and also had Coutinho previously but Wijnaldum remains the most used. Above his two captains Henderson and Milner (Van Dijk and Wijnaldum are the 3rd and 4th captain). Add up all the seasons from 2016 onward and he's by a mile the midfielder with the most minutes.

In 2015-16 for Newcastle he scored four non-penalty goals in one game (he's the only midfielder in PL history to do so) and he also scored open play goals against Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham for his relegated team.

That Origi maybe would be a squad player for Oranje if he had a Dutch passport is a different thing. That's possibly correct.

I never questioned on this and I did say he fits perfectly in klopp's system but he fades in and out of games and thats where klopp has the luxury of rotating/subbing , milner, Henderson who are both versatile midfielfers plus fabinho who sit in egine room. This is where klopp demands the same work rate from all his midfielders.

Its a shame that Ketia has become injury prone since arriving and has fallen back in pecking order other wise him amd Oxs who also just recently came back after a long spell on the side line would have put in tough competition as both are better attacking players than wijnaldum.

  3. Where do I talk about important goals as a single item to declare Gino top?
If you care to go back in the thread you will find the posts in which Klopp values Gino's versatility on top level, because he was reared in the Dutch Eredivisie, so tactically capable of adapting to new tasks. That comment was after Klopp presented a line up with Gino on a very unusual spot and the press asked about it.

About Kay, he hasnot been good at all last season before Bosz came. He actually stalled/was mediocre.

  4. Where on earth do get this crap out of my posts?

  5. You only offer assumptions, about Kay, about competition for Gino by fellow players, but the fact remains in all those seasons he played at Liverpool he's the one that makes the clock work. That's the reason why he ticks off the most minutes. Lofty if's and so's donot count as facts. It's called hot air.
The coming season with his age can turn things around, but that's life, you hopefully grow older.

I think I will stop here because if not : 1. It will all become a reptition and 2. I dont wanna sound like im a german fan here.

What I see in kai harvetz is a modern day attacking midfielder which wijnaldum was no where near to at the same age and also having the potential to reach the very top which again wijnaldum will not reach.

Wijnaldum is good, versatile and a technical midfielder but nothing special. NT needs upgrade in that area or if not somebody who can push him. If not the dragging will continue.

  8. I found another one in that list:
Willem Davnis Louis Didier GEUBBELS, AS MONACO, Villeurbanne (Fra), 16 agosto 2001, franco-olandese, attaccante
Should we add him to the watchlist attackers?

  9. Ron Jans back as coach for FC Twente. Guess the paycheck is less, but the football sooo much better.

Liverpool ended a 30-year wait for a league crown. Glad to see Oranje is well-represented in this drought-ending epic. ;)

A third league title for Virgil van Dijk:
2 at Celtic 1 at Liverpool

A second league title for Georginio Wijnaldum:
1 at PSV 1 at Liverpool

Add that to the Champions League they won last year.

  12. Robben back in the Eredivisie.

Groningen now are favorites to win the Eredivisie next season!!! Several other top players will be joining Robben on the team.

Bring on Suarez and Tadic... they will have easily the best front three in Eredivisie :p And of course, Virgil will shore up the defense.

All kidding aside, truly class act by Robben. If anything, he has helped the club's finance. After announcing Robben’s return, Groningen’s season ticket sales have increased so much the site has now crashed!

Why nobody is talking about city thrashing Liverpool. This is what I have been critical about wijnaldum, his unability to shift another gear in high intensity games. There is two things here.1. High intensity which city maintained through out the game and which resulted in klopp subbing him for ketia and ox.

    2. The midfield itself of city who were simply a class above the rest with foden.his ability to transit in the middle caused alot if havoc for liverpool.

This game I would say was a worthy of a world cup final or maybe the intensity was and again if you look at the nation league final, pretty much had the same level of intensity and in that game too wijnaldum got supressed by the Portguese setup.

If this game had to be the decider for the title race, Liverpool and klopp would have had a heart attack. Just joking but yeah like I said a very high intensity game and again there wasnt much liverpool could do stop the riot.

Seems like you answered your own question.... the game was not a title decider, in fact, it wasn't anything close to that, and rather meaningless. The trophy has been secured, the curtain has gone down. That, and probably severe hangover due too much partying (rightly so... 30 years was a long wait!!) :p:laugh:

I am just glad to see that the Dutch contingents contributed to the EPL title... I think the last time it happened was Van Persie with M.U. some 7-8 years ago?

World Cup finals don't have the same intensity as the best club games.

    :cautious:o_O

Glad that Boadu and Mo Ihattaren are Oranje-bound for years to come.

  21. Think the selection is done by how much rumour is going round about certain young players, not by really making a quality sift.

  22. Creating a fog of confusion/misleading info to make opponents les alert:D.
The Bayern staff with whom he trained before announcing his return said about him he's as fit as ever and ready for making an impact.
