Llamas are aggressive and make good guard animals. They are often used to protect flocks of sheep (or alpaca) from wolves and coyotes. Alpacas are generally really timid. I'm surprised to see an alpaca chase a dog. Llamas of course are aggressive toward anything they consider to be an intruder. We stayed on an alpaca ranch one weekend. The owner told us that his guard llama killed a few wolves until they learned not to mess with him. That was an awesome weekend. And he never fed the chickens. Just let them run around and kill all of the bugs and lizards on the property. He called them little velociraptors. This was near Granite Falls, Washington. GO Quakesfans!! And your llamas and alpacas too! - Mark
I approve this message! I have a bunch of guitars, a bass, an Appalachian dulcimer, a mandolin, a piano, some drums, a few random things to whack on. Yeah, they take up space. So what?! Go Quakesfans!! - Mark
I have never heard of a llama killing a wolf, an they likely wouldn't stand a chance against more than one wolf, who usually hunt in packs.(I have heard of wolves killing llamas) And llamas rarely try to kill an invading predator, they just try to drive them off by chasing, stomping, and making noise. And there are not many wolf packs in WA state, I would think it would be big news if there was a llama that had actually killed a "few" wolves there. Perhaps this llama had managed to kill a coyote or two, but, I smell a little BS when it comes to killing wolves. I think this ranch owner was probably just spinning tales around the campfire to impress you city slickers.
Wow, a llamactivist, meet Caesar! https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...wp_main&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook
That's pretty awesome. Most llamas couldn't cope with all the handling and noises. Since we haven't had a Trina photo lately, here is one from a couple mornings ago with the fog layer below us.
My wife got this long distance shot of a peregrine falcon on our property over the weekend. This is the first time we have ever seen one here. This one is probably just passing through, though one can hope a pair has found a suitably craggy cliff or outcropping in the hills nearby and is taking up residency.

A couple of recent photos. Sunset over the south bay. Trina with halter on ready to be evacuated if need be.
@Earthshaker, how are you and your llama doing in these fires? The air is terrible in Portola Valley from the #CZULightningComplex fire, but your fire is even bigger.
There is something immensely soothing about those pictures of Trina, halter or no halter. I hope you guys don't need to evacuate -- somehow I'd guess she's not a fan of car/truck rides?
Fires have stayed east and south of us thanks to the prevailing winds from the northwest. We were under an evacuation order at one time, but, about everyone in our neighborhood ignored it because we could see the fires were at a distance and not coming our way. Our street is now the dividing line for the evacuation order and we live on the non-evacuation side. Most everyone is still staying put. The fire officials have told us we don't need to leave, but, to be ready to leave. As far as the smoke goes, it is coming from the other fires, not the SCU Lightning complex fires closer to us. And the air quality fluctuates greatly. It has been as poor as 239 on the AQI scale Monday, and as good as 61, which is close to a "Good" reading. Trina hasn't been in a livestock trailer since the day we got her back in 2001, so, getting her into one could be interesting. My wife said she would walk her out of here if need be. As long as there isn't a dramatic, prolonged change in wind direction and speed, we should be ok. Thanks.
Calling all Llama-herders, there is a llama loose on aisle 5. Crazy scenes @CarltonAthletic vs @ilkleytown today. @JoeGarsideLUFC drops his shoulder and leaves Alpaca for dead. pic.twitter.com/a8GVphyycF— Ilkley Town AFC (@ilkleytown) September 19, 2020
I spent some quality time modifying a guitar tonight. Put on a new bridge and new pickups. I haven’t connected the new pickups yet because I need to put on new volume and tone controls, but hey, progress!
Bad news: We christened this baby last night during the shellacking. Good news: All of my wood projects (2nd month of my new hobby) will be made out of recycled/ reclaimed wood (spent the 4th of July camping in/ near Mt. Lassen - Logging trucks running constantly!!). This beer cooler: 98% our 15 year old deck (redwood) ; 1% hardware from the new OSH!! 1% leftover fence boards. Beer? 100% cold!!
