The anthem doesn’t offend me but I wouldn’t miss it if they did away with it before games either. But wouldn’t it be best for everyone if they played it before the players took the field? I only see benefits from that idea. Players don’t have to stand for it if they choose. The people that enjoy the song can still do so /and/ don’t have to worry about being offended by kneeling players.

the fact that the league has to propose a solution to a “problem” like playing the national anthem in the United States says it all.

and the argument that it “was never about the anthem” doesn’t hold water - you mean that Megan Rapinoe can’t find another time to protest?

Maybe the Mouthy ex-4th string Dash goalkeeper can tweet out some more F bombs towards those who disagree with her - after spending the last two years talking about how we all just don’t get how the military fights for the right to protest. Funny how she seems intolerant of others’ opinions

They should probably not play the song for these games, like MLS is doing, rather than use it for marketing through the protests.

So the ratings for the CBS NWSL came out - decent but literally no live sports competing against and on network TV (pro rodeo on CBS drew more the next day). First American team sports league not cornhole to start up. So of course the discussion jumps to why don’t they have more games on TV, look at how great we are, etc. But what struck me was how low the adult 18-49 demographic was compared to men’s soccer. Usually men’s soccer has 50-60% of total audience in the coveted 18-49 demo (which is why men’s soccer tends to be on even if ratings are small) but the NWSL drew only 31% of total audience in that demo. West Ham/Tottenham on NBCSN drew as many total in that demo on a Tuesday afternoon.

There’s something odd in these numbers that doesn’t really compute with the “progressive” soccer demographic. Was it mostly retired older women who watched? Is there a “baseline” CBS audience for a weekend afternoon? Just something not fully adding up

One aspect of men's NT matches and MLS matches that are on TV in our nation is the mega theme of people in our nation watching these matches on a station broadcasting in English and then the alternative station for people to watch with a station broadcasting in Spanish. Thus, the total numbers that some folks like this lady post leave out the actual total and just post a subtotal of ESPN or FS1, the English language broadcasters. As a big supporter of the women's side of the sport, I do not like to see this type of intellectually dishonest statements on attendance, where some clubs fluff numbers and then TV numbers which leave out an entire market on another station.

The rating is the rating and it isn’t a bad number and they should be happy. I wonder how much better it is than what CBS draws at that time normally (there have been hints that because PGA golf started early due to forecasted storms that some tuned into early to CBS and caught the end of the game, bumping up the total and the over 50 demographic)

It’s the out of context comparisons that are off. Grant Wahl had the below tweet comparing a weekend network TV game to a Thursday afternoon cable EPL game.

but here’s the thing: for years the soccer bro’s have been yelling about the quality of the demographic profile instead of the total viewers and now the argument changes.

They may rename the league the NVSSL - National Virtue Signaling Soccer League.

I had to laugh at the argument that CBS should air NWSL women’s soccer instead of Price is Right on CBS network

Based on Sunday's results, I think the Dash will clinch a top 4 seed with a win on Wednesday. Avoiding North Carolina in the knockouts seems like the best bet to advance.

    Finishing their chances perhaps!
If one follows our women, they get up and down the field well enough, maintain the ball well enough but very often when they get inside the 18 they fail to slot home their chances. Last season, our Dash played North Carolina very well on the road to then give up a very soft penalty and lose 1-0 but if they had taken their chances they coulda beaten the best team in the league on the road.

Well its too bad they are playing a truncated season with no home games on a subscription streaming service (which I actually have - I watched about 6 minutes on Saturday night before switching to classic baseball). Seems like this franchise is cursed in terms of having prosperity at all of the wrong times.

Maybe its because ERob is no longer a coach! (I'm sure that will be twitter theory at some point).

BTW, NWSL did a nice job getting back to being the first league in the US to return. But the amount of bellyaching from the woke TItle IX brigade and media is comical at this point - they think CBS network should be broadcasting these games and that the media is sexist by not covering them more or that they should pre-empt an NCIS episode to show a weeknight game live. Just mindboggling ignorance of business reality

Nice match vs OL Reign (sorry to see them drop Seattle) and 2 great goals.

I was worried the Dash would be bet up by the altitude in Utah, but I haven't seen any drop of speed. What is the elevation of Zion Bank Stadium anyway?

Would love to see a strong game to finish out the "season" on Wed and keep the momentum going to meet juggernaut NC in the champ match.

the announcer said 4,000. while not Denver high that’s still high enough if your coming from sea level.

My bad. "Season" is four games. Didn't realize it was so long. Almost like a 162 game baseball season!

OL Reign finally scored a goal and beat Utah today. That means if the Dash win tonight they almost guarantee themselves a top 4 spot in the knockouts. There is still a chance of a 4 way tie for 2nd but Houston would be in good shape on tie-breakers. A win and a tie to finish up and they will grab the #2 seed at worst.
