https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...-hamstring-week-week-heading-mls-cup-playoffs Well, Miles is "week to week". This isn't an excuse not to get past the Revs. But we're going to need him if we do.
At least in Michael that's one position where the team has depth. Arguably losing LGP or Nagbe might prove a bigger loss. Silver linings, anyway. The catch will be dealing with the height issue. I expect NER will do more of the long balls and crosses knowing that Parky will play smart positioning but lack the aerial presence of Miles. Not that this would be Michael's first rodeo of that sort...
I wonder if for next season if Villalba and Pity will return? Also, will offers come for Barco? Parky will be gone. And, my bet is this is Big Red’s last real season. Oh, and if it were me, Remedi would be trade bait, IMO. I’m betting 2020 is going to be a rebuild year.
Pity is back, he might not be happy but he is under contract. And I am sure a manager of Frank de Boers caliber can figure out how to get the most of him. Look at our two best players this year. Barco was a nonentity under Tata, now he is our best player. Miles Robinson couldn't sniff the pitch last year, now he is defender of the year (no offense Ike Opara, but If I were building a defense from scratch I'd be picking Miles).
Um... huh? Dude's got tons of raw talent, especially for his age, but based on the past two matches I'd have no problem with him starting on the bench because of other options on hand. Now, if he rediscovers the form from before his U20WC stint we can talk.
This is odd. You don't think Barco has been a key cog this season? And who replaces him? And don't say Pity, because you guys have dogged Pity all year. Hell I've even bitched about him and he is my favorite player.
Parkhurst with a shoulder separation. I thought they slammed those back into place, but it didn't work this time. The only good news today is that we're still alive. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...urther-depletes-atlanta-united-defender-depth We're as thin in back as the paper that threatens to kill us with a thousand cuts.
My main reaction had to do with the notion Josef is, IMO, the best player on the team this season. Whatever Barco's contribution Josef has been the most impactful player and made the biggest difference. Plus, if you account for differences in position Miles is a worthy nod for team MVP. If I'm filling in the team roster trying to get the best players on the field regardless of the opponent I'm writing down their names first, plus Guzan and Gressel. I also think that what Barco does for the team Hyndman can do with a different style. Barco is the better ball handler in tight situations but Hyndman does a much better job tracking back. But both of them have shortcomings in finishing the attack. Barco just looks gunshy at times, and based on his poor finishing today that might be understandable: 2 near sitters gone lacking and one other trigger not pulled. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have him, I think he's a starter more often than not, and I'm not saying Barco's a bad player. (I am, after all, a middle age fart watching from the stands knowing 'Zique is already 30 times the player I ever was!) I simply think he's not the best player on the team. Maybe next year if/when he plays more games with the side.
Offers will definitely come for Barco, but I'm guessing they won't be high enough (yet- he hasn't shown what he showed at Independiente, and I'm not sure he can, as he's kind of just a cog right now) for us to let him go. That may cause more internal problems, as Barco is still only 20. If his creativity is reduced further over 2020, his value may drop even more. As it stand now, we'd almost have to have some La Liga club take him on as a project with the idea of rebuilding him <cue Six Million Dollar Man music> I'm thinking the same about Larentowicz myself. Remedi? Without looking at the possibilities, I kinda think we could stand to leave him alone. Especially because Red is no spring chicken. That's straight-up scary. We need more to show with this system than a USOC and a one-game Campeones trophy , and the playoff obstacles seem insurmountable atm with our injuries. If we can just somehow defend our title, we can maybe convince a game changer to come here. If not, and if we have to spend '20 "rebuilding", we may lose status and become just another troo contenda. We're fighting an uphill battle against MLS' parity fetish as it is.
If there's any sort of upside to this, it's that we have either Philly or RB at home, where we've been decent. I'm visualizing Jose Luis Brown playing in a makeshift sling (thumb hooked into a hole in his shirt) in the 1986 Final v. then West Germany. Scored a goal, too! Died a few weeks ago.
<kills shot, looks resolute> Pogba LGP Esco. Red hangs back a bit. That's all I got. F it. Let's go, Stripes. I'm ready for Thursday right now. We gon' whup somebody's tail with this back three and then hope we get Miles or Parky back.
Gunner,Josef is our most important player, but not the best. JMHO. I think this team is at its best when Barco is healthy and starting and it would be interesting to see the team record with and without him as a starter, but I am too lazy to dig those stats up. In the end it will be Josef Martinez with a statute at the Benz.
Fair enough. We're all just having bar talk anyway. And at least for this Atlanta team we get to debate the semantics of a winner! Cheers.
Didn't know where else to put this. Garza and Vasquez set up a pretty nice Cincinnati goal today. Any chance we could get Vasquez back on some fine print in that sale contract somewhere?
Another I don't know where to post this post... So I was team wasn't training today. I assume it was so players and staff could go out and stock up on toilet paper and bottled water, but is Atlanta United going to return to training next week? Or does this MLS suspension also mean no training? It is a mad, mad world these days.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...ia-attacker-paraguay-youth-international-erik Seems like a great pick-up.
I saw that somewhere yesterday, but still not sure it's anything serious. I'm still remembering Arzamendia and the other player (can't recall his name OTTOMH). You know this is the 2019 roster thread, right?
Club has officially signed Jurgen Damm. He'll join the team after the Orlando dance party, providing the team fulfills whatever plan they have in place to free up an international roster spot.
Be interesting to see what he brings to the (trampoline-sized, sword-inlaid) table other than speed. We know he's fast. I'm cautiously hopeful.
Podcast available on Roberson's AJC page today, speaking with a correspondent from LigaMX about what Damm brings to the side. Hope his he can replicate Almiron's speed in transition and create more space for Josef. Suggests to me this is a plan to replace Pity if they can find someone to better handle the left side in lieu of Barco.
I thought Damm was joining immediately because they waived Luis Fernando to free up the international slot.
