If we really think 50 mil for Sancho is even in the ballpark than we're incompetent. Even if this is a negotiation strat, what are we hoping to accomplish? Piss off Dortmund?
Grealish for 70-80mil makes even less sense when VdB is readily available for 40-50mil tops. If they were priced around the same, would still go personally for VdB but at the very least, there is a basis for a valid discussion between who the club wants to go for. As it stands, it's clear cut as it comes.
If you think you can offer low ball money for Sancho, he won't go for it and I am sure Dortmund won't go for it either
I think it is tactical and it does manke sense. If they ask for 100M and we say sure, they'll come back and ask for 150. They don't actually want to sell him. If we say we aren't willing to pay over 50 they will be under no illusions that high 3 figures is possible. My guestimation is that we'll eventually get the deal done. If we don't, its because he's staying at Dortmund.
Manchester City will consider signing Jack Grealish if Bayern Munich meet Leroy Sane's asking price | @mcgrathmike https://t.co/en0o9Qbfsx— Telegraph Football (@TeleFootball) June 29, 2020 Have to say it would be intriguing to see what he could become under Pep's tutelage. Good player but he's not worth the figures that are currently being quoted about him. English tax kicking in at full effect...
Dortmund want to pretend they're in charge of the proceedings when they're really not. They're all bullish about how they won't take anything less than full freight for him. But Sancho hasn't even started playing his part. He's got 2 years left in his current contract and has made it clear all season long that he wants to leave+will not sign a new deal. Dortmund may want to hold out for another year but they'll lose money next year when they'll probably have to sell him at a discount when he'll enter the final year of his current deal. On top of that once Sancho himself will start making noise about wanting out, their position will be even further weakened. He surely knows that United are ready to give him personally big wages and make him a central part of the team both on and off the pitch. Those are some of the reasons why this will not be a quick deal. The only way Dortmund can hope to regain some real control and power is if at least one club other than United steps up and shows concrete interest in him. Until then, most of what comes from them is posturing. This is textbook stuff on their part: seen it time and again with many of their players in recent years. This is still very much our deal to mess up but there is no doubt that Woodward and Judge will play the long game. We won't get him on the cheap but don't see us paying anywhere near what they want now (well in excess of 100mil Ps)
It's hugely important to don't screw up this Sancho transfer. It's rare we get a free run at a potentially top 5 talent in the world. We're a few moves away from starting to compete again. We can't afford to be stagnant.
This is exactly what i meant, if we ******** up with Dortmund we will end up paying ridiculous money for a below top tier player.
Thomas Partey to replace Pogba and then you can also bring in Jack Grealish to also anchor the midfield
haven't seen enough of declan rice but could he be our long term solution at the no 6 spot? how press resistant is he?
In regards to his development, Rice stagnated a bit earlier in the season, but he appeared to have shown some good form as of late. He would be an alternative in our search for a 6, IF he wasn't so expensive (no way should we pay 70mil Ps for him) AND if other options are no longer available to us (they're cheaper to boot). Instead of paying 70 for him, I'd rather see the club add another 10-15, even 20mil and go after Ndidi, who is a far superior option than Rice (and still just 23 himself).
No excuses not to get Sancho. Hope we don’t drag this out like we did with AWB and Bruno. City will pass up first refusal on Jadon Sancho to give United a clear run.Guardiola: "No, no, no. He decided to leave, why should he decide to come back?”#mcfc #mufc— James Robson (@jamesalanrobson) July 1, 2020
Fred yes, McTominay? Not so much. I don't expect either of them to be good enough long term. That said, I have no hope of McTominay being anything other than a squaddie unless he has a huge leap somewhere. Rice is different. He may benefit from a change of scenery and the lack of focus on him, given the weapons around him. He has to work on press resistance and improve his passing range. He does a lot of things well, but I think the money he would cost could be much better spent snatching up someone from Germany or Spain.
Its not that I rate Fred or McT that high, its that I think Rice is average. There are so many better CDMs available for way cheaper than Rice.
