Their Twitter account has denied that this will be the team name.

What account now? @NWSLLouisville hasn't said anything; the only denial I've seen was from one @NWSL_Lou, which has a Spanish bio and all their replies are GIFs.

Sorry, but i don't know English enough to understand which meaning of the word "proof" is somehow apt to be the name of a football team. :cautious:

It's a double entendre possibly. Proof as a little like naming them the Truth. But it's also Louisville, Kentucky, the home of Kentucky bourbon, so it's also a reference to liquor alcohol content. It's somewhat "in your face" and not girly. I think it's rather creative and sort of like it. It's got more zip to it than the Reign, Spirit, or Royals.

I suppose "Louisville Sluggers FC" is too aggressive and publicizes a private company, but that's what I think of when I hear of Louisville.

For the non-baseball fans here, "Louisville Slugger" is a baseball bat.

I think "Reign" is a clever name for a team in the rainy Pacific Northwest. "Proof" for Louisville is okay with me.

But I learn from the Equalizer that the 13 star display on the proposed crest is associated with white supremacist groups. And that will be controversial. Why a 13 star display? Kentucky was not one of the original 13 states, so why not 10 stars, or 15, or any number other than 13?

The crest seems to be taking the stars (and the three fleur-de-lis) from the old Louisville flag. Louisville was apparently founded when it was still part of Virginia as one of the 13 original states. Hopefully it doesn't cause a problem once people see the inspiration behind it.

It's a cool nod to Louisville's history, and as one EQZ commentor pointed out, it's nice to see an ostensibly neutral symbol (e.g. associated with the original 13 colonies) used in a neutral context (i.e. kinda "taking it back" from white supremacists) - but I'm not sure how many people will see the logo and realize the historical nod. Lots of people (especially internet mobs) don't see nuance like that these days.

    Under the radar:
NWSL Louisville opened for deposits last week.
The website NWSLLouisville.com no longer seems to work. There is a tab under loucity.com for NWSL though.
All evidence of "Proof Louisville FC" - names, logos, etc. - have been scrubbed from the official Twitter account.

I like when evidence of something being happened is been apparently erased from the net, but some savvy people, like us at BigSoccer, keeps unfazed track of it. :whistling::giggle:

I live in NJ and got a call for season tickets for them. Ummmm....No. My info was clearly put out there, but if you see I live outside of Kentucky, it's not happening.

I saw on some logo site on Twitter evidence of a logo for "Racing Louisville". This was tweeted in the same breath as "NWSL" but I didn't think to save the tweet. I'll go find it later.

    ETA: Ahh, found it.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, all evidence of "Proof Louisville" vanished a while ago, as did the attempt to concurrently rebrand the men's team.
I wouldn't read much into it. If you follow the link in the subsequent post, you'll see it's just the page of a graphic designer who loves soccer. They've put concept crests out for all 9 existing NWSL teams and 11 other possible franchises, some of which have literally had no buzz whatsoever.

Oops. Got too excited. Thought I was breaking some news. :ROFLMAO::(

Very cool website, though. I'm very into corporate branding, ever since the Nickelodeon "debacle". He has some cool stuff on there, including the "Victoria Grays" and Toronto FC.

Yeah there's a bunch to be said for what freelance people can bring to the table. IIRC, the current Spirit logo came from a freelance guy after the club's initial logo got a "meh" reaction and they caught wind of fan designs going around.

(While on the topic, take a gander at the original eight team logos. Throwback! Only two of those eight logos are still active.)

Looks like that would be Thorns and Red Stars. No surprise they lasted. I liked the Seattle logo, too.

Nope, Thorns and Sky Blue! Chicago updated from the blockier original to the sleeker MKOT version a few years ago.

We knew Proof Louisville was gone (which I actually liked), but now we know Racing Louisville is likely the new name although the crest posted above may or may not be connected to what will actually happen:

I like the name as a reference to the Derby, but don't like it so much as a soccer team name (unless they're going to pronounce it like the Argentinian club, which I think is doubtful )

I think Winning Louisville, with an emphasis in promotion on winning colors, would be better.

The Louisville team still doesn't have a name... Or a coach... But what might be an even bigger deal: they have a big jersey-back sponsor!

(From the article: PNC is also helping Louisville found their girls' academy program.)
