with the absolute shitshow going on in florida, anyone wanna start taking bets that this tournament actually plays through completion? what about even starts? a number of players and staff throughout the league have tested positive in the last couple weeks. I think mls actually has a better chance of playing than the nba does, given that one is outside and the other is inside and usually players are much closer together at all times in basketball.

i'm tired of this. i hope we get this done... but more than that, i hope we aren't being careless about this and putting any of our players' or staff's health second to money. there's enough of that in our politics right now; i don't want to that in my sports too.

yeah as i understand it , the chances gotta be fairly slim.. I mean all it takes is one player and a whole team has to sit out for 2 weeks right?

Even if they somehow manage to get this tournament through, I cannot see how they could have a regular season with the pandemic situation.

Not looking good. 2 players have tested positive since arriving in Florida. With the virus out of control in that State, I don't see how any "bubble" will be real effective.

Austin FC, which was announced back in January 2019 and made significant progress before the onset of the pandemic, will remain on schedule for a 2021 launch. The other three clubs, all announced in the second half of 2019, will each have their expansion seasons rescheduled by one year. The updated schedule follows below:

    • Austin FC: 2021 inaugural season
    • Charlotte: 2022 inaugural season
    • St. Louis: 2023 inaugural season
    • Sacramento: 2023 inaugural season

As part of the Gold Cup team, Gioacchini makes long awaited Kansas City homecoming
Gioacchini left his native Kansas City when he was eight years old and through his life has lived in places such as Italy, Washington, D.C., and now France. Now a member of the United States national team, he will have the opportunity to make an emotional homecoming to where his soccer and life journey began. ASN's Brian Sciaretta is here with his story.

Wow. Some serious quotes in there from Gioacchini. I clicked on this thinking it would be pure fluff piece. But he provides his own content in there.

He was the player in the press conference yesterday and as expected a number of questions were about him being from KC. Still it's a good piece and lots of good quotes from him.

I always hated that, feeding off and on Kansas City insecurity. I mean, yeah, I did it. I once had a single question for Yelsin during a visit to the area and I panicked with a "so, what do you think of Kansas?" (as an aside, his answer was fantastic, which i would like to take credit for but i think I stepped into a prepared narrative and he was waiting for any chance to get it out, either that or he would kill at poetry slams). In my case, it was simple poor prep. I never thought he'd come up to me and ask for a question, but too often it seems to be "oh ye who live in and produce the light, illuminate the lives of we dwellers in the darkness" kind of thing.
None of this has anything to do with him. He sounds likes a very smart, nice, young player.
Edit: I actually typed in Gorby at first. Gorby wouldhave killed at poetry slams. Yeltsin, not so much

Don't want to start a new thread, or go digging for a catch all so I'll post here.

There aren't many around from the 2001 days on here (hell I didn't even join until 2002), but highlights from KC's game in the Copa Mercanorte on 9/12/2001 I found on Youtube tonight.

I was on BS, but somehow I'd forgotten about this particular game. Maybe it was that I had just two weeks earlier moved to Boston. I don't know, maybe something else was going on at the time.
It's actually a bit odd that they played, isn't it? I assume they'd gone down a couple days early, because I don't remember planes being back in the skies that quickly. Were they delayed in getting back?
Aside from the fact that the tournament straddled 9/11, it was a cool idea for one of these things. Essentially North and northern South America, a way to hold a multi nation tourney in those days that Brazil or Argentina wouldn't win. Of course, Mexico probably was behind it. Also, was that Preki missing a PK?

They left a few days early and were stuck down there for a few days after, apparently the Hunts had even though about chartering a plane to get them out. There's a great oral history of the game that was done back in like 2011 about it. And no, it wasn't Preki, remember 2001 was the year he was in Miami, it was McKeon.

McKeon? Jeebus, Bob! OTOH, Lassiter was with us at the time, but he's not really first choice for a PK. Klein? Mo, though! I guess McKeon might have made sense. I'd forgotten that's when Burns was with us. Best heckle of my fan career was directed at Burns when he was with NE. Me and a friend were chanting "grab the post, Mike, grab the post" (98 Cup reference, Germany game, when he was on the post and they sneaked it between him and post, waist high) at a very quiet and empty Arrowhead. So he was only 10 yards away. he heard us, stopped running and turned towards us to reply. had this tortured look, shook his head, got back to running.

McKeon was the designated PK taker in 2001, he'd been 4 for 4 in all competitions before I found out he missed one here. Lassiter took 1 (and made it).

Ha Ha, I was at that game and remember your taunt. Almost as good as the “It’s past your bedtime” chant at Freddy Adu.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the MLS web site sucks?

Yep. I hate the match page, all I want is a roster page for the game that easily shows players in/out. The old site was perfect for that.

Google Fiber is discontinuing cable tv service at some point next year moving everything to streaming. I know at the start of the season some of you were not able to stream the games at all. Has this improved at all or is there a work around? The only reason I have cable is Sporting games.

I'm now getting streams of all SKC matches, but I'm in Germany using German DAZN, so this might not be very helpful

Depends on your service. I have Hulu w/live TV and pay for ESPN+ through the ESPN/Disney/Hulu bundle. I CANNOT watch SKC games in English with this setup. That led me to eventually purchase a VPN. Before the VPN, I watched the games, through ESPN+ via Hulu in Spanish. Theoretically, you are not supposed to be able to do this as the games are blacked out but there must be some screwup in their system that allows it. I'd guess 80% of the games were available this way. I CANNOT watch games in english or spanish through the ESPN+ app/channel without going through Hulu. I would listen to the 810 broadcast and sync them, which was a bit of a pain and only works if you stream 810, since the radio stream was always behind the TV. Listening to 810 and trying to sync a game really highlights how terrible the 810 announcers are, as they hardly ever talk play by play.

With a VPN, I can watch ESPN+ and I don't have to F'around with anything. That said, a VPN is yet another monthly subscription.

Until this year, I could watch all games on Fox Sports KC through Hulu. Bally Sports can go to hell.
