Yeah from an offensive POV I can see why Luiz might be considered at DM, but from a defensive POV I don't see why he'd be much less of a liability up there. Couldn't he still get isolated, out of position, do stupid stuff, etc?
I'm not morally opposed to working with a super agent like Joorabchian if it ultimately helps the club. But right now, it seems like a one-way street. Arsenal gives lots of money to Kia and his clients with nothing in return. Is he playing Raul, or is there a long term plan to direct some young talent to the club despite interest from other big boys? (maybe Pepe fits that profile but he wasn't cheap and I don't recall other big clubs being heavily involved) My thought with Cedric is maybe he took 60k a week for 4 years rather than 80k a week for 2 years. That could make sense, but we never hear the details on these things.
Luiz offers nothing as a cb unless U play 3 He is ok at winning the ball and spraying it he can also drop between the other 2 and it means we can try the 2 8’s that arteta seems to want if rather he played dm than cb in a 2
Sounds plausible but do the stats back that up, especially at his Chelsea career, if they played him more that way than we have? I do realize I may be asking the wrong guy about stats. So maybe others can help out.
Clive Palmer on the Arsecast today mentioned Joelson Fernandes - a 17 yo left winger from Sporting in Portugal - as a Joorabchian client that could be Arsenal's reward for playing the super agent game.
Not a bad start but there better be several others to follow (especially DF & MF) for the cash he's made of the Luiz deal alone.
A player who would be a really good fit, a really good asset to this squad: Canadian international...Jonathan David...of Gent and it has been said that Arsenal have shown interest in this kid
I keep reading that his extension is almost complete. Highly doubt WE would be stalling on his extension because of the possibility of signing a promising 17 yo.
Getting the occasional potential wonderkid won't mean much if it costs the team regular European football. Arsenal may be a big club but unlike other leagues there are more than 2 such clubs in the Prem. The goal should be sustainable trophy challenges, not scrounging in hopes of a possible Haaland that would be sold after a couple years.
Several publications running with a report that Partey's agent is due in London this weekend to finalize a deal.
He's all we got though. I can't think of a real analyst in any sport that interacts with the public the way StatsBomb does and Ted does. It's a little like Bill James in the 80s and 90s. Nobody really on the inside will tell us what's going on so we gotta take what we can get. I would love to know what his work says compared to StatDNA, for example.
Whats cool about Ted is he gives you at least one consistent basis to compare players via the radars IMO he has been pretty correct on one aspect which is clubs routinely overpay ... look at Arsenal on Pepe
Well Pepe is in a shot squad and played under an awful coach until arteta when we see more isolation on lbs (bellerin is playing cm at times) he will shine
i assuming people were just thrown off because it was funny as is. and people were trying to figure out what bigman MEANT to say. :-D
