The players and staff have come out pretty strongly against it too: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ns-flew-white-lives-matter-banner-Etihad.html
And speaking of dickheads: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...stelessly-taunted-Brighton-players-money.html
When we won 27 out of the first 29 games, I’m sure Manchester City fans said “That’s what we should be doing.”
FWIW, Burnley has proved a fertile recruiting and electoral ground for the British National Party and the National Front in the last 40 years or so. Race riots too.
At the risk of derailing a thread ... There is much truth in what you say. The violence reflects a deeper malaise in society. Because a [white] person is ignorant of the experiences of black people, it doesn't make them a racist-- this type of debate has to be had if society is to move on from this. It does seem, despite the seeming vacuum in the WH, a large number of Americans at state and local level are engaging with the issue. That can only be for the better of such a great nation. This is not Black History Month but a curious point was made to me by an American classmate when I was at university in Sweden. It seems that black people have had to march and, sometimes, "riot" to get things that most of their compatriots take (and have pretty much always taken) for granted, even those guaranteed by the constitution (think civil rights etc.). I somehow doubt that officer in Minneapolis would have been charged with murder had the incident not been captured on video and widely circulated. The killing in Georgia had been looked at dismissed before another video, again, circulated. What would the consequences (to the officer) have been had the victim(s) been white ? Does the system discriminate? Maybe, "Black Lives Matter, Too" would be an appropriate slogan? Also, how about proportionate force-- Floyd was suspected of using a forged note. Does that require the reckless response from a law officer to the point the suspect dies?
A company called Air Ads has confirmed they flew the banner over Etihad Stadium last night. A person who worked for the company said as long as banners were legal and didn’t use coarse language, they couldn’t take sides. He explained how they had already done a Black Lives Matter banner, and had ran banners for leave, remain and both sides of Scottish independence. He wasn’t willing to confirm details of who booked it, or how much it cost, but claimed that police had been informed of the banner and they had not heard back from them.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has just spoken to the media and, after watching Manchester City win on Monday, he was asked about Pep Guardiola's side being able to catch the Reds at the top of the Premier League. Klopp said: “The only thing I realised from watching the game last night was how is it possible any team is 20 points ahead of that team? We must have done something right.”
The Floyd matter is especially egregious. It was a murder. The only caveat is that Floyd did not cooperate fully with the police as one video clearly shows. But that did not warrant the police officer's knee on Floyd's neck.
Yes. If they wanted to be champions, that's what they needed to do. We played well for most of the season but had been disappointing prior to the shutdown. Even some of the games we won, we were not convincing. We should have scored three goals against Everton not 3 shots.
The Everton match was never going to be easy . We've had loads of draws there in recent seasons and Ancelotti is no dope . He knows how to organize a team . Keep the faith , lads . There's a reason we're so many points clear at the top .
It was a long wait for that game and I thought with the rest, 5 subs and no crowd we would win by 4-1. I'm worried that we lost our mojo. We'll see on Wednesday.
A common thread in all the restart games I've seen so far is players snatching at scoring chances. Like in Spurs-WHam right now, both sides have screwed up good chances, blazing them wide. Kinda like Taki did early in Sunday's game.
You guys are having such a great conversation and making great points. This isn't the thread for thisdiscussion, but I really cherish this corner of the internet of ours and that we've all known eachother for so long that we can have respectful point/counter on stuff like this.
behind the scenes. Arsenal are in chaos and Arteta is probably screwed. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...lehi-mislintat-joorabchian-luiz-a9580756.html BTW I'm not sure why I typed "behind the scenes"
I think Arsenal and Everton are in a similar situation squad wise. Both have a smattering of good players but also carrying too many past their best aging players. Both need extensive retooling to get anywhere close to challenging for top four . Neither club will likely qualify for Europe so both will need to be very resourceful in the market . We we there not so long ago so we know how important it is to have a strong club infrastructure right down from the owners to coaching and scouting.
A couple of weeks ago? How about pretty much every day... A lot of lock-down / no football frustration on display.
Yeah, Solanke isn’t the first u20 Star to underachieve when they get picked up by a top team. Williams impressed me yesterday, keep an eye on him.
Well at least we can concentrate on Chelsea v ManC in about 45 min. Personally, I’m hoping for a 2-2 draw...
