Anyone else watch the broadcast in the minutes after the game? TA immediately sat on the floor and took his boots off, not sure if frustration or exhaustion or both. A couple minutes later he was gingerly sitting on the advertising boards. Seemed like a surprising level of exhaustion after only have played a half and not been hugely involved. Maybe something still isn't quite right with him physically
I saw that, a trainer was reading what I would imagine are analytics and the manager was standing over them
That’s an impressive tackle for sure but Tyler is going to come away feeling that a lot more than Hummels. Matt is a well put together dude,
something is off with him for sure ... whether it is physical post injury or mental or not clicking with his teammates or coach - who knows ... but he is just not dominating like he once did.
I don't think this system suits him quite as well as the Marsch/Ragnick press & go does. He's not going to look as dynamic when he's defending space and angles and not pressing high and pestering opposing CMs.
He looked really passive today. It's like you want to go out there are shake the kid to make him realize that with performances like this he's impressing no one, least of all his coach. I'm of course hyper focused on Adams and other Yanks when I'm watching, but if the kid does next to nothing out there in his 45 minutes, what makes his coach put him on again or make the decision to start him? He had 45 minutes to make an impression and really he did very little with his chance. There are just waaay too many talented players out there and too much money at RB for them to be satisfied with what Tyler offered out there today. He didn't lose them the game, but he certainly didn't seize his chance to make something happen. I know it's a harsh critique when he was playing where he was, but you just can't take it for granted that you'll see another minute on the pitch at this level if you don't do something to stand out positively.
I think that’s quite harsh. Dortmund’s attack slowed down noticeably in the 2nd half as Adams was able to fill the deep gaps that were plaguing RBL in the first. That’s the reason he was put in, not to be a DLP
The whole "He isn't the same as he was before" argument is being blown way out of proportion. Adams is being asked to play CDM with the emphasis on the D and he is doing a good job. He missed a couple of passes today for the 1st time in like 3 games or something. They were both of the forward/penetrating variety which people have been screaming for him to do more of but a) those passes are by definition more difficult to complete and b) he didn't miss by much on them... I think one should have connected if the receiver was more aggressive. Nagel trusts that when he brings Adams in the middle of the pitch is going to get tightened down... i.e. less give-aways, prevention of counters and further protection for the CDs. He is starting every other game and is getting significant minutes in his sub appearances. Today RBL was getting gashed up the middle in the 1st half and Adams came on and greatly reduced BVBs flow thru the middle. Adams still has a ways to go if he wants to be an elite 6 at the highest level but he is already good enough for the coach to give him starts and sub stints even though he has Sabitzer, Laimer and Kampl.
It was 0-1 when he came in at the half, against a dangerous quick-countering team. I thought he was fine. Again, he can affect his teams offense as long as he sits wide of the Rhino 6 position that he loves.
Except that anyone who's closely followed his career trajectory can see he is NOT the same player. Your optimism is admirable but ultimately naive.
I don't agree. I think Nagelsman is a much better fit for Adams because Nagelsman will expand Adams' game and make him think about the game differently. I think people are misinterpreting his performance now vs. then because they are not taking into account his long injury layoff. He is better now than back then, imo. You can see experience creeping into his game.
Is this the only thing you post? It’s every week or so but little more to offer in terms of what specifically you notice in his game that makes you say it. To me his close down speed looks similar to before. What seems different is the way he is approaching the game. It seems more mental than physical to me and that may have to do with coaches instructions.
Last season Leipzig had 49.5% possession with 19.3 tackles per game and 12.2 interceptions per game. This year, they have 53.9% possession with 18.2 tackles per game and 10.8 interceptions per game. Seems logical to deduct that they’re playing a less frenetic style, so Adams’ lack of “action” or whatever, could very well be due to tactics.
For the last several pages? Yes. Along with condescending comments for those that disagree. I have argued the counter with specifics to back it up. Saying that someone is naive because they don't agree with you is not a valid argument.
Nagelsman in the post match thought they played horrid in the first half and very well in the second. I wonder what changed...Adams came in at half.
Did anyone else watch the Chelsea game and see Kante's play and positioning and think that might be how Leipzig and GGG envision Adams to play this RB/RWB/CDM role? Very often Kante found himself on an island at RB on defense and then ran diagonal centrally in transition and attack. It put him in nice spots in attack where he didn't have to dribble anyone and could shape up to pass or cross as he saw fit. I'm much more intrigued by the idea than others and Adams really could model his game off Kante's given their respective strengths and weaknesses. He'll probably never be as good as Kante but he could be a kind of facsimile.
Gave you the rep but Kante is a special player and I don't think it's fair to compare the two. But I do agree that Adams should play a similar role with the USMNT as Kante did today for Chelsea. Adams, especially when he gets his wind back, is athletic enough and willing to do a similar role. With everybody coming into form it's going to be a good problem to have figuring out where all the young YA midfielders fit into the picture.
I thought Adams played better this time out than last to be honest, more assured. Red Bull got better with him on the field. He played a very tidy stay at home 6 letting his players more forward get to work. And, I really like his passing from that spot because he always releases the ball early and this tends to make his passes short and unremarkable looking, but it leads to his team breaking pressure and advancing quickly upfield.
Azpilicueta was playing right back. Quiet match, what with the two assists and all. Kante was part of a three man midfield that was dragged down by a bad match from Loftus-Cheek, but things were better once Barkley and Pulisic came in, then they got worse when Reece James came in and played the worst match I've ever seen him play. Yes, Kante was shading to the right for long stretches of the game, but I don't think he was in away way playing the Egg RB/CM role.
