Eastern European countries that have allied themselves with the West are a basket case. It's why they're "all" turning far right now, the liberal consensus has failed Eastern Europe.

Hungary rules against NGO's ruled illegal by the EU court.

Not that they will have a way to force Hungary to change.

It seems they're a tad 'damp'. We, on the other hand, are extremely hot. Temperatures here have been up at almost 30C.

    That's almost 86F degrees...

Well, actually, I think they've been warm as well but that's of no concern to me.

Some polling regarding who would voters support in the second round.

1512229460350840846 is not a valid tweet id

Some funny shit with these stats, 2% of Macron and LePen voters would vote for them in the first round but not the second.

    Another 'weird' part.

26% of the far left vote would support LePen.

But only 13% of the far left vote would support Macron.

I guess that Zemmur and LePen are close to each other on the right.

But for some left wing voters, it is better to support the right than a centrist.

Call it the horseshoe theory or Blair's law but is it all that surprising? If you are angry with the status quo is Le Pen that different from Melenchon? The same conspiracy theories and Kremlin backed anti-Americanism with a little bit of tradition thrown in from Le Pen. Back in 2002 I was worried that close to 40% of the French electorate voted for what I would anti-Constitutional parties in the first round and this threat still remains.

The real shock is that the two parties who ancestors created the 5th Republic and dominated its politics -- the Socialists and the Republicans (heirs to the Gaullists in their various guises) are COMBINED polling around 10-12%.

I think this is part of the story of the french electorate, though...

Essentially, if people are being described, (or are describing themselves), as 'far left' and aren't communists, they're not far left... they're delusional idiots who think they're far left. Basically, they're not extreme socialists, they're national socialists... nazis IOW.

If that polling is correct, (and it remains to be seen if it is), Macron has managed to make himself even more unpopular which doesn't bode well.

French election exit poll from Belgium.

If the majority of Melenchon and Precrese voters break for Macron, then Macron should win the second round.

Macron has a 5% lead over Le Pen, which is higher than expected. But his re-election is not certain. Questions remain about how many of Melenchon voter will vote for him. That will be the key point of the 2nd round indeed, and no one can tell how things will turn.

The good thing is that Melenchon is telling his voters to NOT vote for Le Pen, he didn't do that 6 years ago.

You're absolutely right. The question is: will his voters follow him ? I have no idea, right now.

One of the crazy things of this election is the ridicously low figures of the historically two majors parties of the last 40 years : LR (the conservative party) on one hand and the socialist party on the other hand. That is a kind of political earthquake, really.
On a personal note, I hate Macron, but I'll vote for him in two weeks. Le Pen is a fascist, plain and simple. If she wins, it would not only be a disaster for France, but also for Europe, and also a major victory for Putin deep inside the Western/Nato camp (as it would basically neutralize one the 3 western nuclear powers).

The gap between Le Pen and Melenchon is closing : 0.8% now...... Could the results in the Paris area -only coming now- change the whole picture ?

Melenchon could be more dangerous to Macron.

I would assume a recount if the race for second is close?

I wonder how that works there.
