the news dump on Friday that Jesse Gonzalez had been suspended by MLS because his wife (ex?) had filed a report w/ Frisco PD of domestic abuse was pretty out of the blue.

I'm pretty sure I've never spoken to or engaged with Jesse in all these years, so I don't know him - but in my informal quizzing of people who have - media, staff, circle of people who "know him" - is a pretty universal response: "Jesse is not very smart".

I've yet to speak to a person who knows him that is suspect of the allegations. The general reaction has been like one media member: "If it was Ryan Hollingshead, you'd go 'WHAAT?!?", but when you hear it about Jesse, you think, 'yeah, that doesn't surprise me'".

It will be interesting to see what the Hunts do - and a review of two recent incidents in KC may provide insight. Kareem Hunt was cut after a video surfaced, but Trysten Hill was not released after audio of child abuse surfaced.

To be honest, I don't really like the road that this is going down.

First of all, let me be clear on one thing: If Jesse Gonzalez is found to have been a domestic abuser, see ya, Jesse. At the very least, he's gonna have to do some serious amends-making, more than just apologizing, no matter how heartfelt.

But I don't like this notion that how smart or well-spoken or personable a particular player is has bearing on whether that player is capable of being a domestic abuser or not. There are a lot of smart/successful/well-spoken/whatever folks out there who physically abuse their partners. A lot of folks do a pretty good job of keeping up the curb appeal while all sorts of evil shit goes on behind closed doors. I thought we all learned this lesson with OJ.

Which is to say that I am just as surprised that Jesse Gonzalez is alleged to have done it as I would be if Ryan Hollingshead or anyone else were to have done it.

“Jesse isn’t very smart” isn’t as much about his level of education or book smarts - but his level of decision making and impulsive nature. Think about his bizarre refusal to relent in time wasting. He was openly challenging authority to punish him. He’s know to just not show up for events, etc. methinks this is simply a polite way of people saying, “Jesse isn’t really a very good person”.

If you would be equally surprised at the news being either Ryan or Jesse, I think those that know them both would say to you “you clearly don’t know Ryan or Jesse”.

I don't either one of them. I've never met either one of them. I don't know jack about either of their lives.

But I've seen countless people in my life whose outward appearance and mannerisms tell quite a different story from their private lives. I've had friends who seemed to be the happiest, most gregarious people you know kill themselves. I've had a friend who was thought to be the most unserious party animal known to mankind graduate with a 3.9 GPA in electrical engineering. And, relevant to this discussion, I've had a friend turn out to be an abuser when all outward appearances never would've indicated such.

So yeah, I would be equally surprised because there are very few people in this world where we get to see everything that they've got going on their lives at all times, really just our immediate families. Everyone else? We just get very short glimpses through the window on occasion.

Is he too hot to sell to LigaMX? I know there was a ton of interest in the past, his price will certainly be discounted though.

Not trying to be a @#$%, just trying to get something out of nothing. I think it will be a very tough road back to MLS, if at all possible.

How long do we anticipate this investigation taking?

Considering they signed Avilez to a HG deal this week, my guess we should all assume Jesse is done here.

Well first big black eye for FC Dallas Burn. Jesse out. Guess there's substance to the claims. Dang he and Acosta played against one of my kids. I've seen him since U10. Maybe with the trouble both of them have had I'm pretty happy with my kids careers.

Jesse was a hero that night vs Seattle but I'm not crying into my pillow he's gone. Great shot stopper but a complete lack of situational awareness on too many occasions.

I think whatever we gained by Jesse's tremendous shot stopping can be compensated by Jimmy's better decision making.
