Me: We're not doing enough, we need to take women's football and shove it in faces of people who might not know it's happening near them. The FA: 💡 pic.twitter.com/AvPnY3rBUF— Sophie Lawson (@lawson_sv) August 16, 2019 Personalised promo billboards have gone or are going live in every town/city of each FAWC club, designed to drive attendance, excite/engage fans ahead of the start of the season. OMG There was Women's FA Cup Subbuteo (SheKicks / Archive) Sue Smith playing Suebutteo The originals were only in a prize draw in 2018 (Arsenal v Chelsea), but you can buy one at auction if you have over £250. National Football Museum "Object of the Week: Women's Subbuteo", 2020 (Archive) The FA called it the "first all-female football set", conveniently ignoring that there were probably non-FA-approved women's subbuteo teams years ago with higher attendances. (Bigsoccer has a few threads about the game) AND THEN FIFA Women’s World Cup Subbuteo stop motion series, 2019 https://picturesmith.tv/portfolio/fifa-womens-world-cup/
From FIFPRO: 'RAISING OUR GAME': LIFTING UP WOMEN'S PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL Report (57 pages 2020 edition)
@Lechus7 , thanks for sharing that link. The report mentions some women's pro soccer incidents that I had missed completely. Hopefully FIFPro will continue publishing such docs.
I'm curious to see post-WWC report from France, especially tournament economic impact, the report has not been published yet.
Surprised to see the W-League have the second best attendance. Figure it would be a European league. Like in FA WSL or France.
A bit misleading, it's only a short season and 9 clubs. Mexico's average was the same (about 1,800 for a full season) but they chose to ignore it. Spain/Italy had high total attendance that year, some very big games in 2018/19, but more clubs and games bring down the average. England has had big derby games, but in 2019/20 so not counted. Also, this report trusted Fifa's inflated World Cup attendances for 2015 while questioning the 2019 crowd number ... it's like, hmm, bit of a pro-Anglophone agenda, mon ami
here some numbers for you (mostly previous season) League........no. of games..total att..av att..season Club.................................N...home games...total att...av att. Yeah, some cherry picking about league attendance as well. Intresting W-League gets the mention while Brazil and Japan leagues don't. Where from the report's data came: COMPOSITION OF STAKEHOLDER SURVEY RESPONDENTS BY CONFEDERATION.... UEFA 59% AFC 13% CAF 9% CONCACAF 9% CONMEBOL 5% OFC 5%
Lechus7's numbers are particularly interesting when considering the impact of the World Cup, during which some of the leagues had games. For the WC semis and finals, there were roughly 17,000 US fans in Lyon. There also were large numbers in France earlier in the WC. Those are fans who were not in the US for NWSL games played during the WC -- although a good number of them may have been season ticket holders who are included in the NWSL numbers.
They excluded all the games that got 20,000 / 30,000+ Like it was unnatural for women's teams to be seen by so many people. Let's hope leagues like that can get to a stage where every game could be a big event. WorldFootball puts Spurs first at 8600 (11 games), but may be based on unreliable figures. https://www.worldfootball.net/attendance/eng-frauen-womens-super-league-2019-2020/3/
