If that's what it is then it makes some sense because the teams aren't any different than many other businesses that have suffered massive revenue losses. If this is what it is, however, then that's not cool.
Don't forget, the league is asking for $15 million from the feds, on top of the wage subsidy. So when the season finally gets underway, maybe they should put the Government of Canada logo on all the advertising boards.
I'm hoping it's only for 2020. If the league goes back to normal and keep the cut in 2021 than that's F'ed up
That's giving our government too much credit! And that $15M is a loan unlike the CFL who are asking up to $150M in giveaway
It's not but this is pretty much everywhere across the board. CPL isn't different than other business who drastically lost revenues. As I said on social media, CPL could have done far worse. The Montreal Canadiens are outright permanently firing employees and they are filthy rich. That's an example of worse.
So.. What you're saying is that former CPL PR guy is trying to spin this positively? Yeah, that isn't how it works. Just another example of millionaires and billionaires screwing over their low pay employees to save a few pennies.
For what it's worth, he's a MediaPro employee, not CPL but yeah, he'd be more bias towards the league, granted. Yep, another example of the failed Neo-liberalism model. They are all doing it and CPL was never going more virtuous than the rest. I mean, the commissioner used to be the guy running Tim Horton's Canada... and that company are as anti-worker & union as it gets, so not surprised by the league's reaction.
That's why I said former. Between July 2018 and June 2019, Larson was the director of content for the CPL's website, social media, and PR.

You'd be surprised to know that he used to be one of the league's biggest detractors when he was at the Toronto Sun. He was making fun of it nonstop while glorifying MLS and TFC. Go figure lol
Looks like some progress is being made Thanks Kurt. Players are aware of the pressures too - all of us want a strong and successful @CPLsoccer. Can report lots of positive open dialogue with league officials and players all day. First honest effort from the league and it’s appreciated. https://t.co/0eUGxQZ1E0— PFA Canada (@canada_pfa) June 2, 2020
Green light for Valour to go back to training “There is a collective desire by everyone to be back doing what we do best.”We have received approval from provincial and municipal health authorities and the Canadian Premier League and will return to training on June 3rd: 📝 | https://t.co/Evi7O8x2TH#ForValour | #CanPL pic.twitter.com/1gjsGqdEwA— Valour FC (@ValourFootball) June 3, 2020 Only Alberta remains with FC Edmonton and Cavalry
Players are onboard! PFACan board members discussed @CPLsoccer proposal for return to play last night. Players are excited about a season and the League's model. It makes sense. There remains some concerns to be discussed, but PFACan supports the proposal and players look forward to ongoing dialogue pic.twitter.com/0eHzUCUSyt— PFA Canada (@canada_pfa) June 3, 2020

I hope they get to play in some fashion. I did laugh, however, when I saw that they are talking about the "concept of a proposed strategy on the possibility of a 2020 CPL season". The concept is good but the wording is funny. An idea of a chance of discussion about maybe having some form of a game.
Also Charlottetown has officially invited the CPL Charlottetown Invites Canadian Premier League to Play in Capital City https://www.charlottetown.ca/news/current_news/canadian_premier_league_invited_to_play_in_capital
I'm surprised that PEI would take them, given on how ruthless they have been by keeping the border closed, and not letting anyone who doesn't reside there in. On the other hand, with absolutely no Covid in PEI at all, once quarantine is over, then there'd be no need to restrict attendance at games. Which is probably true in Victoria/Vancouver Island, which only has 5 Covid cases. I'm not sure I understand the MLS moving teams to a state that isn't Covid-free.
So basically, that entire release says, "Everyone wants to return to play in 2020, but we aren't announcing a plan yet. Here are some positive quotes from players."
They haven't decided yet where to play. It will be Charlottetown, Vancouver Island or Winnipeg. If on of those locations allows for fans on the stands, they will go there without hesitation
The only place that seems possible currently (though things are improving) is Charlottetown, as that province is now Covid-free. But how many there would have any interest in going to watch such games? Probably as many as a Canada-Iceland friendly in the USA.
