I don't agree that this is insane. Let me put this in a context that might make sense... So, I have been through multiple active shooter drills at schools with different people talking to us. One of the most consistent things that they say is that not to take action if you have a gun. The reason being that the police are going to come in amped up and looking for somebody with a gun. So if the individual has a gun and taking action, they are going to focus on that person. And this in the context of a confusing situation. Because there will be people everywhere. So the first gun they see, they are going to focus on. Of course, they are also going to be walking/running into a situation that is chaos, and with information that is even 30 seconds old, which puts the shooter at the wrong location, and the police don't know what is RIGHT NOW!. So, looking at the video above, I am seeing something similar. There are report of looting, guys with guns, multiple officers getting information, a witness pointing in a general direction, and the police are trying to act RIGHT NOW! They actually had level heads and did not arrest the woman in the car, and on the full link posted later, they seemed to get a level head. The bad part, though, is that if the reporter had not been there, they would have the wrong people. ******** you. Tense situation, trying to protect her crew, make sure the wrong people are not arrested, describe 6 people to multiple questioners in a tense situation - yeah, ******** you. She was fine. Once things got calmed, she was just fine.
“Washington(CNN) Defense officials tell CNN there was deep and growing discomfort among some in the Pentagon even before President Donald Trump announced Monday that he is ready to deploy the military to enforce order inside the United States.” https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/01/politics/troops-deploying-washington-dc/index.html
And your evidence that protesters, in great numbers, are saying "what pandemic?" is . . . ? No, the same thing cannot be said. In going out and protesting, many people are being guided by a belief that may be hard for you to understand that more than one thing can be wrong at the same time, and sometimes it's necessary to choose what seems to be the least-bad of several bad options. Put another way, I'm quite sure that the majority of people protesting would rather not *need* to protest, especially given the pandemic. If you choose, you can argue that social distancing in the face of the pandemic is more important than seeking equal protection under the law for black people. I won't be making that argument for several reasons, not the least being that it's not my life being threatened by racist police. Life is not always black and white, no matter how much more comforting for us it may be to see it that way.
The fact that they are all out disobeying social distancing is evidence enough. Looking at it coldly, the pandemic is a bigger threat in the short term. And no I am not dismissing racism as a big problem that needs to be dealt with in this country.
Hmmm, well that does appear to be some evidence, even if I don't fully trust Twitter accounts. Thanks for providing.
A later tweet she has said she was walking around with a "military vet." I looked at the video and they seemed to clean cut to be Proud Boys.
Evidence that they don't care about the pandemic? There is no logical basis for saying that whatsoever, for the reason I stated. If you saying that the pandemic is a bigger threat does not mean that you dismiss racism as a big problem, then why are you so certain that other people seeing racism as a bigger threat means they *do* dismiss the pandemic as a big problem? Why are you allowed to weigh problems and prioritize them, but others are not? No, I agree, you're not saying that racism is not a big problem. You're simply saying that it's not *as big* a problem. Others -- particularly people who worry *every single day of every week of every year* whether this will be the day things go to shit in an encounter with police -- disagree with you. You weighed the two and came to a conclusion about their relative severity; but you're unwilling to allow other people to do the same thing and come to a different conclusion than you. Consider yourself fortunate you don't have to live with their fear, and don't be so lacking in empathy as to illogically suggest that they must not care about the pandemic.
When the bad apples are not removed form the good apples. it is difficult if not impossible to distinguish when they are all in the same barrel.
It's just the flu I dunno - If I am BIPOC or BIPOC appearing, my chances of being injured or killed by a police officer are substantially higher, likely astronomically higher than a white / white appearing person, unless I look like I just took off my juggalo face paint
Several months ago, I would have argued that they would resist deployment, and defiantly action. I'm not so sure, now. Twitter is full of disinformation and misinformation. I agree with you on the police side, but the video above of the stand off with the looters and the intervening police show how twitter can be misleading.
Don't go there mate...You are applying your own perception to a situation that does not directly affects you.
