Like walking 5 miles uphill both ways in a snowstorm to school, shouldn't that make it easier in fancier conditions?

Yeah, from 75 to 85 they won it I think 7 times I think, with 3 different teams. Forest, Liverpool and Villa.

There were a number of other British players that played for them as well, (i.e. Scots, Welsh and Irish), but then, they played in much the same way as well, so...

I don't think these simple explanations every really work, tbh.

    Ha same for us!

The tango soccer ball of 1982 was a revelation!

I remember my friend got one and bought it to school each day. He was the only kid who had one in the whole school. Later I got my own for christmas. It was a massive thing to have a tango ... Kicking it on the concrete was such a no no ...

To be clear I spoke about two different things

    1. The well documented NHS ER & bed crisis of winter 2019

    2. Access to routine doctor visits (i.e not at the hospital)

On point 2, when my family is sick, we can easily get same day appointments. I can also get very fast specialist appointments without referral.

As far as Covid goes, Spahn has indicated that this basic access is also important.

I hated heading those soggy leather balls off of a keeper’s punt. These days you would probably undergo concussion protocol for each header.

Ah, OK. It looked to me like you were saying that both 'normal' doctor visits and emergency cover were typically taking days and even weeks to obtain and I was just saying that wasn't my experience of it, even if there have been problems at certain points.

I absolutely agree that the under-funding of the NHS has created a more desperate situation. I've made that point myself many times but it's important we don't overstate the degree to which most people's experience of the health service over here has been impacted. It, (or at least the emergency 'bit' of it), which generally works OK.

Yeah I was a goalie. Trying to catch that snot coated heavy hunk of wet cowhide was an adventure. The only gloves that helped a little were woolen one I bought from the army and navy store.
To try and make the ball waterproof was some grease called Dubin. That made it worse.
Heading that lump and catching the leather lacing between your eyes was sure to make you think twice about doing it again.
The word went out and a reward for “inventing” a waterproof ball went out resulting in that dayglow orange ball.

Ah, the good old days. :)

Oh, I forgot. One leather panel on the ball always soaked more than the others and ballooned out and made the ball wobble in flight. CR7 can make his free kicks do this. :)

I was also. Only thing worse than those were the new era balls like the one used in the 2010 World Cup . You didn’t even need skill to make that thing dance all over once struck.... god damn “Jubilani” is what it was called.

It flew around like one of those lightsaber training balls in Star Wars..

    I am glad I “retired”around that time ...

Yeah I often played in goal, mainly because I couldn't kick the ball very far but like my hero Ray Clemence in his early career, I didn't wear gloves (I did deliver his newspaper though).

I remember the scratches from the lacing. I'd find them when I got home underneath a layer of mud. Knees took a pounding too, I have permanent scar tissue.

Ah, the knees! We played a match in Bootle on an icy pitch. White ice after sleet so we remarked the field in blue lines. I swear we played the game in my area.
I was going to outpatients at the hospital on the way to work for a week to get the dressings (that had stuck to the scabs) changed on my knees
Gawd, I love this game. :)

    I had one of these.

Like you said, it was a revelation. I had it for literally decades until I kicked it into the Hudson River on a free kick gone haywire.

Trump today had a great chance to address the public to attempt calm things down. Instead he reamed State Governors for not being harsh enough on protesters and has threatened to invoke the insurrection act of 18... something.

As well as a bunch of statements that nobody understands what the hell he means other than threats, like these.
Like this one, nobody in the Pentagon understands this.

I had a Brine NASL ball and they were a revelation particularly in the rain. I was rooting through my Mother’s basement in the past year and saw it but it was badly deteriorated so tossed it. Somehow I later saw that there is a demand for these balls no matter how poor the condition.

Tweet but Michigan has this to look forward to.

I'm holding back for a few weeks at least. Everyone will be itching to go out and as I live in a trendy town and near another trendy town, traffic will be insane.

I have a feeling this reopening is going to be short before we get hit by another wave at least in large cities.

Sweden just passed France for death rate. It will move past Spain, Italy, and probably the United Kingdom too. Pretty sure our rates will be heading in the same direction, given that U.S. habits have changed dramatically over the past 2/3 weeks and now probably resemble those of Sweden.

I played in the day when football was a contact sport and the keeper was a target, not like the spoilt brats of today. The very first substitutes in the game were keepers.
Now they go down if they get a dirty look and draw the foul.
