    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/defense-sec-calls-protests-battlespace

“I think the sooner that you mass and dominate the battlespace, the quicker this dissipates and we can get back to the right normal,” Esper said in a White House call with governors, according to audio obtained by the Washington Post.

OK, when is it rational to soil my underwear? Cuz that moment is coming soon.

I mean, what the actual ******** is he talking about????? Imagine the Minister of Defense in Venezuela saying that!!! We would (rightfully) be outraged. I feel like I have vertigo, just scanning the news.

I had never heard of either of those places. Not surprised you could find a few examples, Ohio is a pretty populous state.

I don't know what you mean by that. I have had negative interaction with LEO's, I'm also friends with more than a few. Like any large group of people, there are both good and bad.

They are parroting those terms used in military briefings...

Peacekeeping/Humanitarian assistance uses terms like “dominate” and “Isolate.” They are used when planning how to target/influence enemy/friendly/neutral human networks

Well, he is the Secretary of Defense. And he is bonkers. Both of those things need to be considered.

It's the führerbunker syndrome. You get rewarded for being a sycophant and sidelined for being reality based.

There is an amazing account of when von Manstein flew from the front to a conference with Hitler to try to make him engage with the Wehrmacht's reality in the Ukraine and authorise a mobile defence in depth.

Hilter's toadies took von Manstein aside and tried to explain to him how one "best dealt" with Hitler

This is exactly how Trump's circle operates by all accounts.

One supposedly can't confront him directly with reality based info but instead everyone tries to manipulate and engages in court intrigues

It's kind of amazing how a flash point is reached and then the bottom falls out so quickly.

Only 6 months ago, we still entertained an election that would be like 2018, but with Trump cheating

Now we have a collapsed economy, pandemic, race riots, violent press suppression by the police, and potentially military crack down

You'd expect this in Erdolf land

Well....An other conservative who is not mincing words.......

No One Should Want Four More Years of This

George Will: “The nation’s downward spiral into acrimony and sporadic anarchy has had many causes much larger than the small man who is the great exacerbator of them.

Voters must dispatch his congressional enablers, especially the senators who still gambol around his ankles with a canine hunger for petting.”

“In life’s unforgiving arithmetic, we are the sum of our choices. Congressional Republicans have made theirs for more than 1,200 days. We cannot know all the measures necessary to restore the nation’s domestic health and international standing, but we know the first step: Senate Republicans must be routed, as condign punishment for their Vichyite collaboration.”

I think the narrative of Trump's immovable base is missing the importance of this Conservative rebellion. It may not be big in absolute numbers, but if they chip off 1-2% in battleground states, Trump loses badly.

Look at what Lincoln project is doing with their campaign specifically targeted at GOP voters.

Many of these key 2016 influencers like Joe Scarborough have jumped ship

I know you're trying to sound reasonable, as its unbelievable to even type it. But, they already are in Tinpot land.

No democratic and developed country in the world are even remotely close to the US in present form, except maybe Brazil.

This US is closer to a China or Russia than anything like NZ, Aus, Can, FR, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, etc..

Extending Never Trumpism to removing Senate Republicans. I like.

I also wonder if with Trump's reputation seemingly destroyed, if Senate Republicans will attempt to distance themselves from him in the election. I don't think that would succeed, it would make them look even more calculating and dishonest than they already appear to be, but I bet that some will be tempted.

That's my own belief but like @American Brummie says, there is still a roll of the dice in 2020 that everyone needs to stay motivated for. Of course now with the pandemic there are new concerns around voter access - which is why Dems need to be very motivated and organised.

My personal opinion is that the establishment views everything from a perspective where their own interests are not yet too badly impacted, and things will still get back to normal, or can be rationalised.

Of course from the helicopter view - this is likely the next phase of societal collapse, predictably following on from an economic collapse. The risk of crackdown is high.

Trump will never lead the US back to how it was pre-pandemic. A large underclass is the new reality unless he is removed.

We've speculated about how Trump seizes power, and the coercive power of the state is key to it.

Rick Wilson has said in his podcast that Moscow Mitch will abandon Trump if it provides a way to save his senate majority leadership. That is all that matters to Moscow Mitch

Oh, I am sure Mitch would. But that would fail, miserably, because Trump would wage holy war if Mitch stopped feeding from his hand.

The Houston Police Chief told Trump to shut up and stop talking. Literally.

    Think about that.

You now have police chiefs telling the countries head of state to sit down and shut the ******** up.

    It's got to that level.

I know quite a few people who had trouble sleeping with the flash booms.
I linked to the short version they had on twitter. I appreciated it.
That's why I asked a poster what time their kid went out.
There's no reason behind what some of these people are doing. It's evident who is doing this from where they are going in DC.

Biden is definitely the wrong guy to communicate to the country in these situations. One of his bright ideas today was that cops should be aiming at the legs, a theory that has been debunked by all security experts. There can't be any advisors feeding him these thoughts. He's probably regurgitating these thoughts from conversations he may have had 30 years ago.

In a vacuum it's not a big deal. Everyone has bad takes from time to time. But with Biden it's consistent. Which is pretty bad because clear communication is necessary to pull us out of this Trump mess. We need to speak clearly on what happened, what is happening and what the plan is going forward on all issues.

There's still time to retire Joe and nominate almost anybody else at this point. Blame it in health. Nobody will blame you.
