you get the exact same screen as u did the first time you were choosing your club
if you did well in the season, you will obviously be able to coach* better teams

I just got my PS2 a few weeks ago, so I don't have a lot of history with previous fifa versions, but have played '02 and '03 a little bit. Holy guacamole. This version is about a thousand times more complex. I hope it doesn't take too long to get aquainted with the controls, because I've been so frustrated the past two days I've had that it's bordering on not even being fun.

Not to be daft but how many Brazilians are at Rangers right now? Seems to reflect how things play out normally.

Ya, I think the jump in game play style came between '04 and '05. I was able to master 03 but struggled a bit with '04 (borrowed from my sis on and off). I rented 05 from gamefly so I don't have the proper instructions (well, I can looka tthem online). It seems a bit different from '04. I like the free throws. And they seem to continue to make it easier ot play a game where you run players into space. I like that. I've had problems with no one making runs off the ball other than the one I send scampering forward (hello, tunnel vision). And that L2 thing to get some others to make some runs is fine. But ti's a bit much to control runs like that when you're in a tight space. Hopefully 06 will help address this and get the plaaers to make better runs off the ball on their own.

I love the ability to intervene in a simulated match.

whats the point of simulating though
you buy the game to play
    not watch how they play

Is it just me or does the Career Mode get a little boring after a while (and by a while i mean like 7 seasons)?

Meh.... I only play online nowadays. I got impatient with Career Mode, I didnt want to wait another season to play with THE ARSENAL. I also play games in Play Now on 10 minute halves Whenever I got like half an hour to spare.

    I rule....

Well, yeah, but supose you're playing your 10th season with Man U., it's week 35, you're 10 points ahead of Arsenal and already have the season in the bag; your next game is against Kidderminister and they suck.

You're already making plans of whom to buy/sell and just want to get over with the season, it wouldn't kill you to simulate the game.

It would be cool to actually watch how they play, like in Championship Manager, in FIFA you only get to read what they players are doing.

I've only had my PS2 for a couple of months and just got FIFA05, but I like the game. To me, its realistic. It's hard to win by a ton of goals and it's challenging. I played two seasons in MLS and by the end of the second I was king. So i took over Werder Bremen and I got sacked midway through the season. Now, I'm using Corinthians trying to save face. I hated getting sacked  but it's cool that I did because it just means that I have a ways to go before mastering the game. I'm tired of my NCAA05 because I win the championship every season so hopefully i won't get tired of FIFA05 soon.

I have problems scoring goals from crosses. Any suggestions on which is the best formations? I use the 4-1-2-1-2 but I get zero buildup from the wings. Now, I'm using a 4-5-1 but the buildup is too slow for me.

I think the 4-1-2-1-2 is one of the best formations in the game, but of course, you've got no wingers.
With the 4-5-1 you can slowly build up the attack but I find it boring.

I ocassionally use the 4-3-1-2 because the guy right behind the strikers is always feeding the ball to the forwards.

My fav. one is the 5-2-3. And use a couple of midfielders as my wingbacks. Problems is they tend to get tired because they get forward frequently, so I always have to sub them at half time.

Shooting is a lot more challenging in this version.
You also cannot see the skill level of other players in the transaction period unless you up your scouting level.

I do not like how the players seem to hang back on the play. For instance if I am on the attack, my players just seem to stand still until I take control of them, same on defense. No or little player movement to the ball.

I agree. The management side of things is really 3rd rate. If I wanna concern myself with the management side of things, I'd rather spend my time with FM05.

As for game play, I agree. The player movement is lacking. It's like they think if they let you control a player on a weird run or send someone off on a run (which , btw, is straight up the pitch) that's "realistic". My rear end! The play ya send on a run needs to do more than run a straight line. And as for the control, that's nice but it's tough to do in tight quarters. There needs to be some players running off the ball.

I'm glad I signed up for gamefly.com to rent games. I can play them forawhile and if I really like them, buy them. I think once my buddy comes over to play fifa 05 tonight I'm sending it back and renting Winning Eleven.

Yeah, I realize that in FIFA 2005 it is harder to score goals from crosses because the opposing defenders put more pressure on my players, which is something that I like. I use 3-4-1-2, and I think it is the best way to carry attacks through the middle and using the wings. I do win the headers on crosses but about 75% of them end up flying high or wide of the post.

I am in season 5 now, and I have seen that players retire, and some players all of a sudden become young and lose about 20 skill points. Also, I won with Celtic the ECC, and went undefeated in league and domestic cup play.

At the end of the year I thought, hey now I can move into Serie A or EPL with a higher team, but nooooo....I didn't get squat for teams interested from those leagues. To date I have won SPL, Bundesliga with FC Nurnberg, and MLS with Fire, the ECC and the Super Euro Cup or whatever.

On top of that when I goto transfer market I got Adu, LD, Ronaldo, Ronaldihno, but when I try to get some other players like O'Brien I get a they do not feel that SPL is at their level etc...

Just some things I have found so far.

alot of the header problems stem from your aim, and also how much power you put on the shot. i almost never send a cross into the box because if it doesnt miss the goal completely, it seems that the keeper automatically smothers the ball.

by my 5th season i was manager of real madrid, but i still couldnt get young talent to come to my teams because i was still only a 3 star manager. you can buy the big names of soccer, if they have already proven themselves, like henry, del piero, etc. but i tried but brazilians like diego from fc porto and robinho from santos with real madrid, and they wouldnt come.

players retire in the game at about 33 i think

    and they dont become young
its just the game filling in for a retired player by making a new guy with a different first name

    try playing on the net
i guarantee you at least 2/5 goals will come directly from a cross and a header
the key is running really fast when you cross it on the wing
and the striker will header an unstoppable one in

if your outside of the box just take a shot most of the time it goes in. its really hard to score but if you get the hang of it then you will be a good player. the manager mode im at my 12 season and rack up 4 trophies 3 with serie a with a low team parma and 1 with benfica its fun but its time consuming. i hope the winning eleven has a big improvement cause this game just doesnt cut it its boring and not even that realistic.
