There is a cottage industry, very well funded, in the US and beyond, that not only constantly reports on the "uncomfortable subjects" in Iran, but makes up quite a few when they run out of such subjects! In the process, the picture implanted in the minds of people like you, of Iran, is NOTHING like the country I know. Otherwise, I have no problems dealing with real uncomfortable stories in Iran, including the one about the case we had been discussing. And which I addressed as well. The stories (most of which have little to do with the uncomfortable stories you are told), if covered honestly and dispassionately, would bring to focus the many things that need to be fixed in Iran. But for those who have no interest in fixing anything in Iran, and who are mainly motivated by messing up the country, that exercise isn't going to lead them where they want to go.

Based on the pictures I am seeing from LA and elsewhere in America, it seems the US is closer to a 'revolution' than Iran:) And truth be told: I think the US needs more than just a superficial change in political leaders, regardless that the one you have now is really a pig. But the US needs much more than just a change in political leaders. It really needs to fix things more fundamentally.

Are you actually comparing such criminal cases with systematic racism? It took me less than a minute to find 4 cases involving a father and even younger victims in the great US of A, from the last 6 months, two such cases from just last week actually. Such murders are so common in the US that they don’t even make the national headlines anymore. The fact that Romina’s case has generated so much outrage in Iran, and was condemned by anyone and everyone, including the president, is exactly because Iranians, unlike Americans, are not used to such horrific headlines.

    This.

Most Americans don’t think about Iran at all.

If was the one awarding Oscars, and recommending movies, the ones I mention below (such as 6.5 meters, the Warden, No Date No Signature) would be on top of my list of movies that would need to be awarded. And I say this despite the fact that two other Iranian movies have already won Oscars. But while movie directors like the late Abbas Kiarostami (who was the first Iranian director to win the prestigious Palme d'Or award for Taste of Cherry in the 1990s) or Asghar Farhadi (whose is the director for both the Iranian movies that won Oscars, namely The Separation and then The Salesman) deserve a lot of credit for the development of Iranian cinema, I don't consider them even the best movies produced in Iran.

My list of best Iranian movies overall would perforce include too many for me to mention here. But the best Iranian movies in 2019 is compiled HERE by the London Iranian Film Festival. I don't agree with some of their choices and certainly not the order they have chosen for them, but they include almost all of my favorites from the past couple of years (e.g., 6.5 meters, When the Moon was Full, the Warden), but with the notable exception of the following: No Date, No Signature (reviewed HERE by Roger Ebert) and, from a very different genre, Damascus Time (not reviewed by the MSM mainly because it promotes a contrary political message, but reviewed HERE by Counterpunch). Together, these movies, and countless others produced each year in Iran, underline another area which has seen Iran become notable in recent years. I don't necessarily agree with the reasons given in this article, but I post it because it asks a question that can be asked about many other areas which has seen Iran excel in recent years:

Well y'all have the same number of Oscar wins for best foreign film (2) as Argentina, Austria & Hungary. Not too shabby.

Not too shabby, particularly since only certain Iranian directors and genres get any coverage, while many others of equal or better merit don't. For instance, never mind any Oscars, would highly acclaimed Iranian directors such as Ebrahim Hatamikia and Iranian blockbuster movies such as Damascus Time even get reviewed by Hollywood and the mainstream media in the US? Of course not!

In the meantime, the map of countries which have won Oscars for foreign films are those in dark green below, while the lighter green shows those who have had Oscar nominations but no Oscar winners. The rest have neither. Among them, only 8 countries have won more Oscars than Iran (Italy, France, Spain, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Soviet Union, and Netherlands), while the rest are either tied with Iran in Oscar winners (including, besides those you mentioned, Germany and Switzerland) and the rest rank below Iran.

“The Warden” is probably the best Iranian movie of the last few years. The movie is set in 1950’s Iran after the American coup and has a universal message about social justice, which is actually very fitting for the current times and what’s happening in US now. The story is about an ethnic minority man on death row, who has been framed by corrupt local cops, corrupt judiciary officials, and a corrupt system protecting them.

I liked the Warden, which along with my other favorites, 6.5 meters and No Date, No Signature, had starring roles for the Iranian actor who I believe is the best in Iranian cinema right now, namely Navid Mohammadzadeh.

Most Americans? Probably. Although there have been quite a few occasions when the leading 'search term' on google has been: Iran!

Most American policy-makers and the US government: nonsense.

Considering US involvement in the region and Iran's support for terrorist groups waging a guerilla campaign, I would expect people in the government's anti-terrorist groups to be focused on Iran. That's a nice straw man.

Regular American citizen? Meh. Complete afterthought unless something come across the news, which I'm sure is the case with your super scientific google search result article.

Only 1000-1500 visit Iran on an annual basis. No one really cares.
