Only saw the 2nd half. I'm still nearly comatose from that, hours later. I watched a bit of Bayer/Fortuna to try to revive my spirt, but now I'm just ded. The difference in quality between Bayer and the bottom half is ridiculous. And Bayer were crap today and they were 10x the team Fortuna is. Bayer needs to play out the season with only U23s or something...
Spud needs to find a position, but I have to feel sorry for him and Wagner. This is an epically bad team. I said it right after they fired Dimatteo, they should have fired the team and kept the coach. Anyone remember he got this team to within 10minutes of beating ManCity? The BT announcer was openly asking several times during the telecast: Is this the worst Shalke team of all time? and I kept answering, yes, yes it is.
Weston was a BEAST today. Totally possessed and fired up. Late in the 1st he was making gut busting runs to get behind the Bremen D, love when he gets forward into the attack.
It was Bremen... But yes, he was brief ray of sunshine on a dark and dreary day. He looked like he actually wanted to get something done.
Yep. It was like Bayern couldn't be assed and still were going to score 7. I couldn't watch past the half.
Bayern only cares about the league after the break. It could be argued this season they only started playing in late February. I wonder if they've begged them to stop scoring after five. The Bundesliga is starting to look like Ligue 1 at this point.
was trying to figure out why in the work Wagner would try to make S04 a defend and counter team against 2 bottom feeders. Then in the 2nd half I realized it was all a ploy to surprise Bremen after the first 45. Still woeful on the final ball, but why didn't they play like that in the 1st half and on Wednesday? Those were beatable teams. or tieable. I will say, if I were a S04 fan, I would not be hopeless moving forward. Their biggest problem over the season seems to be inconsistency, which you get with young players, and they are playing a LOT of young players; Serdar 23 McKennie 21 Harit 22 Matondo 19 Kabak 20 Todibo 20 Kutucu 20 Kenny 23 You don't win nothing with kids, but if half of them improve that's a nice core for a few seasons
I only saw the second and thought Schalke had a lot more ball, but completely ran out of ideas once they got the call into the final 3rd - like no clue. But Wes was working very hard and pretty fiesty before he came out. Schalke just has no offensive instinct at all. Wagner might have listened too well under Sigi...
In the second half Schalke were chasing a 0-1 game and Bremen were breaking everything up. You can see from the heat maps that Bremen commanded the middle of the pitch. McKennie depends on a hilite here and there. He has problems facing good midfielders over 90' who know McKennie's game.
Bremen is not a team with good midfielders, though, so that amplifies the problem. And Wes still was among the most effective, if not the most effective of Schalke's middies, but that ain't saying a lot. It was not an elegant game. I recall Schalke putting together a 5 or 6 pass incursion at about 68' or so - that actually looked like a footie game, only to fizzle out at the 18. Schalke has been poor this season but somehow managed to grab more points than they should have. They're reverting to the mean and injuries don't help...
Eggestein isn't that bad defensively and the other cmid is Davvy Klaasen whom I'm sure you know. He has 16 caps and 4 goals for Netherlands. That's a lot better than McKennie and Schopf who are relatively unknown - I think?
I dunno about known unknowns, but Bremen's been bleeding goals this season in part cause the midfield has not had a lot of bite (at least in the games I've watched, which have mostly only been those that have featured a bit of Sarge, and parts of Dortmund, RBL, VW and Schalke.) It looked to me like Vogts was Bremen's CM today - and he looked ok. Klaassen was ok too, but I think WB kept him too far back to be most effect, though TBF I haven't seen a lot of him since leaving Ajax - he's not really seen much Orange play. I thought Eggs was the worst of the 3 in the second half (all I watched). I can't recall a Bremen game I've seen this year where I thought their midfield really clicked - the Wolfs game was overall their best probs. Granted Dortmund and RBL make a lot of midfields look out of sorts, but I don't think it's the Bundesliga midfield to set your bar by.
To be able to use my platform to bring attention to a problem that has been going on to long feels good!!! We have to stand up for what we believe in and I believe that it is time that we are heard! #justiceforgeorgefloyd #saynotoracism pic.twitter.com/TRB1AGm0Qx— Weston McKennie (@WMckennie) May 30, 2020
