Also restaurants are unnecessary risks, as well as many other activities. That said, I understand what you are saying but we are not talking only about minuscule bit of immense fortunes of super wealthy people, a sport like soccer in Europe is a huge economic drive at least for major leagues, in Italy for example soccer alone (not sports, just soccer) represents 7% of the nation GDP, third voice in the country economy after industry and tourism, you understand it's not simple to let it go.
Every place which is reopening represents a potential risk, think factories, with thousands of people working in it. Soccer is just one of the many businesses. What you and I consider entertainment is in fact a huge industry that moves around a lot of money, giving jobs to thousands of people (Barcelona alone, which is a multisport club, gives jobs to about 1,000 people)

Not terribly surprising since the coronavirus league table has Brazil, along with the USA and Russia, in the relegation zone.

Remember when fascists could at least get the trains running on time?

Our fascists have been working for 20 plus years to destroy infrastructure and the public's support and belief in common infrastructure just so they could gain power and fix it. Of course when they got the power they've also showed little interest in governing or infrastructure. They essentially were distracted by hovering the commons equity, wealth, and power up to the Oligarchs. Now the proverbial feces is splattered all over the walls and the is no one left with the expertise to actually govern.

Their training has been suspended until further notice.

This is what could easily kill the 2020 season.

MLS vs Euro Leagues: Financial analyses project huge losses for MLS since clubs are heavily reliant on game day revenue. OTHOH top European leagues get tons of TV money even without any fans in the stadiums. But minor nations/leagues will probably suffer significantly unless they get aid from richest clubs or their top league.

The Galaxy and Aleksandar Katai have mutually parted ways after Katai's wife posted racist comments on social media.

I'm sure this means Katai's days of playing in MLS are over, but I'm not 100% sure how I feel about a player having to pay the price for his wife's comments just yet.

Don’t know what was said, but I think it’s a bad idea. She’s an independent person. Does MLS start punishing all players for their spouse’s behavior? What if she got a DWI? I suspect the club wanted to get out of the contract because this doesn’t appear well thought out.

He claimed on social media he didn't, but who knows what went on in his meeting with the team this week before the release.

From the LA Times article, it was bad, some of it was in Serbian. From what I could figure out, she called demonstrators "swine" and the Serbo-Croat version of "schwarzes." Good ********ing riddance.

No, there has to be zero tolerance for this behavior. Enough is enough.

So if your SO went on a racist screed on social media, you should lose your job over it?

Maybe the guy did not really approve what his wife wrote, but already a group of fans had gone out of the stadium with a banner saying "we don't want any racist at our club", so basically the ground was burned all around him, and there wasn't much left to do.
Unfortunately this is not the first time and won't be the last that a spouse of a player says something inappropriate and puts the player in a great difficulty, for who follows Italian football, the whole soap opera Inter-Icardi-Wanda Nara speaks very well about this.

Yeah, if your job is as an entertainer (which is what pro athletes are) and what the public thinks of you, fair or not, can impact the bottom line of the business then getting firing for it is well within the bounds of acceptability.

It's harsh but wow, the things she said were so far over the line who could possibly believe that he not only didn't know what she believes but also accepts it (and possibly even embraces it)?

And he is new to the team so he has no stored goodwill to fall back on and he's not a star player. If I were a black Galaxy fan could never have accepted him.

He didn't stand a chance. They said mutual decision so he could save face but they obviously canned him. I don't blame them one bit.

That's a different ballgame. If he endorsed her someway then it's a pretty easy call, but if he disavowed her comments and offered to help change her perspective wouldn't that be a better outcome? Who more than a spouse/family member could help change perspective for the positive?
