Given the increasing engagement of POC athletes with social issues.MJs refusal to even recognize the issue even today makes him look....not great.
I get that sure, but at the same time, how much of this is also era driven? I dont see many other athletes from the 80s or 90s shouting from rooftops? Could it partly be that MJs platform for speaking out is also a lot lower now than Lebrons?
The next time MJ takes a position on a social issue, particularly one that involves the AA community, we can have this convo. In the meantime, we can sit this one down for now.
Correlation does not equal causation. The government is pretty f'ing big now and all you have to do is look at the news or read this thread to see that racism is alive and well. @Coyote trickster seldom addresses anything , he just tells me I have no right to point out facts that don't suit his dialogue, simply because I am white. You can't have it both ways. did the government perpetrate systematic extermination of native Americans or not? dsid they just do the same thing they have been doing since the beginning or not with the 3 million dollar ripoff or not? The bigger it got the more efficient the extermination. Are we not killing people of color right now? Is institutional racism a thing or not? As much as it pisses you off it is going to take all of us working together to make it better, and that includes white people no matter how much that bothers you.
Every now and then I think about Reagan announcing his campaign in Philadelphia Mississippi at the county fair and how it was so obvious what he was intending to do.
Uhhh...he just had like the most watched program on tv and is still a global name. He's made it clear he doesn't like to be an activist like Ali or Jim Brown. IIRC he does more behind the scenes.
You did not do that to be truthful. That may have been what you meant but reread your post. The fed govt does not give a ******** about Jim Crow, they set up the tax structure so that upper middle class just ceded the inner cities to POC and then denied them adequate resources, underfunded education and now voila permanent wage slaves with no end in sight.
I'm pretty sure "Next time" will be the first time, unless I missed some gesture toward activism. Edit: and if he's behind the scenes like CP says, cool. But he does have a bit of name recognition.
Especially when they dont believe in the fight and make it someone else's problem but puff out their chest because he is the white guy in a black school like an after school special, trying to make a difference.
That there has literally never been a vegan culture anywhere on the planet suggests something about the long term sustainability of that diet. They are right about factory farming, though: I'll give them that one.
2 weeks ago they had protests for Ahmaud as well. Mostly masked but not distancing. I am gonna guess these masks in these situations may not be that effective.
Virus Making Greedy Bastards - and yes, wet markets exist all over the world, but they are typically associated with non-white countries and "barbarism". They're willing to exchange industrial meat production because they mistakenly believe that industrial scale agriculture has no downsides (because it doesn't truly exist) and that there are no current issues with exploitation of workers or ecosystems in vegan food production They are, but that's kind of like saying "smoking will kill you" when you work in asbestos removal all day without PPE
AFAIK, next time will be the first time indeed. Even Magic has been more vocal and active than him. He is a lost cause.
I think gatekeeping is literally hardwaired into human dna - because every culture has "well actually..." in it's language somewhere, primarily found in the Y Chromosome
This! I shipped my college student kid to the old country in South America last year for a long vacation/family connection/cultural immersion time and we had some discussions about this. She's been a vegetarian/vegan for a while and that was going to be impossible to practice given that she was a guest and would not cook her own meals. So "don't freak out in the Sierra when you see the guinea-pigs spit roasted! You don't have to eat them but be respectful and understanding". We actually didn't have that much between us on the subject because she understands that people (especially indigenous) in developing countries have to eat according to what's available in their environment and means. In the end she decided she was going pescatarian. This was a good medium. Fresh seafood on the coast region is plentiful and sustainable and damn tasty. Her favorite dish in the world now is fresh fish caught that morning and prepared fried, with rice, onion tomato salsa and plantains - all locally grown. She learned quite a bit a food while there and came to the conclusion that they eat much better than we do. Most of the food is locally grown and transported not very far. No GMOs are allowed to be grown. Refined or frozen food is not as prevalent. Fresh organic produce is cheap and easy to get. So, actually if you chose to adopt a vegetarian diet it would be easy.
GMOs are not the problem. GMO is fine. Making rice more 25% more productive and nutritious, why not? Make chocolate and vanilla extract with yeast in a stainless steel tank instead of cutting down rainforest for monoculture plantations, why not? The problem is manufacturing an herbicide/pesticide and then GMO'ing a staple crop species resistant to its application that will AGGRESSIVELY outcompete all natural/native species, and then sue people whose land ends up having crops with your engineered DNA sequence even if they are trying to be GMO and organic....... AND that herbicide/pesticide is commonly overused and causes cancer............ AND you charge exorbitant prices for your patented seed..... AND.......
No it doesn't. Unless you think it's somehow it's his responsibility. Fine to prefer and admire other athletes for being vocal like Lebron, that in itself doesn't make MJ a bad person. Just makes him unengaged. It'd be different if they guy was always in the media for other issues. But he is basically recluse. Oh yeah ... and don't ask Lebron about China. He might fumble himself again.
Oh boy... Yes, GMOs scientifically are fine. I don't really have problem with them, but the ugly native vegetables you get there are sooo tasty.
