I sure hope Davies and Munich give credit where it's due to MLS for his development. Probably the best potential Canada has ever had.
Favre started the wrong lineup (Dahoud instead of Chan? I know he's coming off an injury, but really?) Dortmund was constantly getting turned over in their own half and looked like they were the road team, not BM. Hopefully Haaland is OK cause they are going to need him over the next few weeks. Also, for those of you who didn't realize it the crowd sounds were "enhanced" by our friends at Fox. I'm not sure if I liked it better without the fake noise, since you could hear the players and coaches yelling instructions, which was interesting (at least to me).
He did better than last game. Besides that one nice cross I’d like to see him get back to some of the ambition on the ball that he had before the break. More crossing and shooting. The last two games he seems a bit slow of thought / tentative. A lot like Pulisic when he was in that slump with those overly common and slow back passes.
He was about 25-yards away in injury time with the ball about where he had been on his wondergoal. And I'm thinking, take the shot! He just stood there looking for someone to lay it off to. Not good enough.
I think he did fine for his age. All that doubt and fear was typical of the 19 year old facing his first title-defining game, and worse when the other team was dominating. Dahoud and Burki are guys who don't belong at that level, though. Bayern got this in the bag. They're going to get the calls, too.
Lucien Favre's days are reportedly numbered (as usual) https://www.kicker.de/776284/artikel/flicks_konzept_geht_auf_favres_tage_wohl_gezaehlt I think he'll be canned soon or after the season. They brought in Hummels, Brandt, Hazard, and Haaland. The only players lost (at the start of the season) who played a significant role in 2018-19 were Diallo and Pulisic. And they had the advantage of a Kovac-led Bayern into November. Yet the title challenge is on the verge of collapse, and Dortmund is guaranteed to finish with a lower point total than its "weaker" team from 2018-2019.
Yeah Ten Hag to Dortmund rumors have been hot for a while and he obviously fits their modus operandi.
A modern team can no longer play 2 let alone 3 central midfielders who cannot pass or create. Dahoud is a joke. Delaney has no legs and Witsel is not what he used to be. Fivver would play all three if he could at the same time like he did in the CL. Waste of time coach. No ambition and no ability to organize teams to attack beyond the obvious. Panic hire.
I don't disagree that Dortmund could use a coaching upgrade, but Favre seems to love Reyna, so from a purely selfish, USMNT fan point of view, I'm fine with Favre staying and Dortmund finishing 2nd every year.
so you think three of their four centermids are subpar. What would you do instead of play at least... one of them?
Yeah, I didn't get that. Was there a foul off the ball, offsides or something else? Most obvious pk situation I've seen when looking at replay. Ball headed to goal, Boateng sticks his elbow out and sends the ball wide.
What bothered me in the first half was nobody making the outlet pass to Haaland immediately when possession turned ober to Dortmund. Haaland was constantly getting advantageous position on the 3 defenders covering him. Instead, Dortumund would insist on passing around the ball and ending up making one pass too many by which time Bayern was back in their defensive trench. Finally they bring on Gio but it's too late. Haaland is done. We don't see a single minute of Gio and Haaland on the pitch.
Whichever coach they bring in, it shouldn't change their MO. They have not been as fun to watch since Tuchel left. I would love to see a timeline where he stayed.
Those things happen when you play against FC Hollywood in the 1BL. It's like playing against Juve in Serie A and Real Madrid in the CL. The playing field seems less than level.
VAR was invented - or it should have been - exactly for these situations, when you can't expect the ref to see it and get it right in real time. One factor might have been the absence of Dortmund players grabbing their arms/elbows and screaming for a call. They seemed happy enough just to get a corner. But the replays were on top of this quickly enough (to notify the ref of an issue). Clear penalty under the new no-fault rules, less clear in intent - but you can't allow arms/elbows to fly all over the place.
The Bundesliga Expert on Sirius XM said that Dahoud was one of the bright spots for BVB and that he has earned more playing time even when Can and Witz are healthy. I certainly don't see what the expert saw. He has had some good moments and some poor ones. I really have not seen anything that would make me think he is special... especially considering that he is 24... not 20. But I wouldn't call him a joke.... just seems like a guy to me.... something of a replacement level player.... maybe a bit worse considering the team.
