I've seen pros hit woods in places a normal player really shouldn't think about trying it: At the Western Open back in the 70s when they played at the still-racist (at last report) Butler National, I saw Hale Irwin hit a driver from a fairway bunker: he rolled it onto the green in two. He then four putted for a bogey. Damn tough course. Irwin went on to win the tournament.

I've heard that Trump isn't a terrible golfer, but I suspect that's not something he should be doing... though as you suggest, it's not out of the question that he's hitting the ball from a tee.
