Rennes want to let go of striker Jordan Siebatcheu. "The former Reims player is being proposed everywhere in the hope of finding him a new team." Has not produced in Ligue 1 the last two seasons after being one of the top Ligue 2 players in 2017-18. https://t.co/fOfbWAFfzv— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) May 24, 2020
I wonder if clubs bring in psychologists or so to get to the bottom of it with certain goalscorers. Determine if it could be a mental block of sorts.
As for club psychologists, they're not exactly standard these days but they're very much the norm, even in lower divisions. They're rarely employed by the club but there'll be a shortlist of candidates that wil be recommended to a player, with the club picking up the tab.
Or that he fit well in the Reims system but poorly in the Rennes system. In hindsight, moving clubs was a big mistake.
Reims is in a beautiful area too. I've never been to Rennes, so I can't speak to that, but it's hard to beat Champagne country. Plus, the cathedral in Reims makes Notre Dame (pre-fire) look mundane.
Yeah, I would’ve never left Reims for Rennes. Northwestern France isn’t my first choice when traveling through the country lol.
Money. Although Reims have the bigger history (6 titles and 2 Cups to Rennes' 3 cups) Rennes are by far the bigger club these days, with double the average attendance, and they'd been in Ligue 1 for a few decades when Reims were promoted. They had the money to spend and Reims took it and used it to strengthen the squad: they sold Siebatcheu and a CB for 9 m and 2m respectivley and bought 5 players (LB, RB, LW, DM and CF) for the Ligue 1 relegation battle ahead. Intererstingly, that battle never materialised. Even more interstingly, 4 of those 5 players are still there and 3 of them have had contract extensions. A good bit of business for Reims I'd say
hmmmm someone get Montreal on the phone? Siebatcheu as a young DP that doesn't use up an international slot? Honestly wouldn't be the worst of moves for him. Some guys have made very nice careers in the MLS. With our striker shortage, if he could lay claim to it.... Would probably be able to bounce out if he wanted to after a few years.
I guess it could be TAM now? I don't know financially how it would work the best, but it seems like they want to offload him for peanuts. I was purely speculating but there are worst landing spots for him than a French speaking city in North America, with a club coached by Thierry Henry. I honestly selfishly just want to see him here because I think it will be a good retest of the league's standard of play in 2020/2021.
you are of course welcome to your opinion and this isn't USMNT forum, but I don't want prime-age Americans stepping down in league play so we can test the level of MLS' play. It's one thing if they can't hack it at a higher level or are on the downswing of their career but not for guys we hope are improving and having an impact on the senior team.
Normally I'd agree, but a promising forward spending time under Thierry Henry would be a pretty good situation.
Last season, Jordan had 6 goals and 1 assist in 763 minutes of cup and league play. Unless he were tired of European football, it seems a move to another Ligue 1 team would be the sensible option.
that his club wants to dump isn't surprising at all. I'm fluent in French and the post was a lot more ruthless about Siebatcheu than the tweet. it says that he's hasn't done anything well since he arrived. Between injuries and not impressing, that's why he's a bencher. And the club wants to get rid of him. lots of times, failure in 1st division forces one to remake themselves in 2nd division.....
He basically 'failed' with a UCL-qualifying team. There's plenty of room between that standard and Ligue 2.
aka, they are looking to upgrade their bench to UCL rotational players. Jordan is not up that standard.....at least yet.
French is my first language, and it’s not exactly what it said. Basically, it said he wasn’t performing well enough to displace the first choice striker. You paraphrased what they said in the article in the harshest way possible.
They state right there that he hasn't done anything well since his arrival. Not sure how you can twist that. I mean really? It's a given that he hasn't done enough to displace #1 when he hasn't performed at all for the club. And one isn't a bencher and better than 1st choice, your a bencher because you aren't better option. point is he hasn't done well or impressed anyone. Harsh is reality of the game.
He's never looked like Ligue 1 material, regardless of the team. He had a run of games early in the season where he killed the attack when he came in, and failed to generate anything when he started. And never recovered after that. I doubt he'll ever be Ligue 1 quality.
