This is the challenge, the UK is a much worse position than Germany is in terms of total number of cases.

My guess is they could probably absorb 2 maybe 3 teams going into quarantine and make those matches up, especially if it's early. Not sure they could find room in the schedule for more than that. See what happens after the 2nd round of testing.

This is the answer. Seems like a vast majority of players are itching to get back so best to handle it as a case by case basis. The reality is lots of people are now being asked to go back to work in circumstances that are not ideal often without access to testing.

Yeah, this is a unique situation but this does put these footballing jobs into perspective -- will Deeney staying home hurt Watford's chances of staying up, yes. Should he HAVE to put his kid at risk or be isolated form his family for this period of time, perhaps not. A decision is required, it's up to him and that kind of thing will happen on a case by case basis.

The league doesn't have to shut down because a handful of clubs can't field their absolute best 11.

We only concern is if this thing really gets snowballing with training and then the first matches... doesn't really matter for MY personal football-related concerns, it is pretty clear at this point Liverpool are going to be granted the title no matter what.

I think I agree - where I get tired of Deeney is him talking as if his view is every players view.

One player and two staff at Watford and Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan are among six positive Premier League tests for coronavirus.

The other two are at a third club, the details of which have not been revealed.

I wonder if these who have returned positive results were showing any symptoms at all? This could be a blessing for them and their families, too, as they can quarantine and avoid spreading the infection.

Hasn't the UK had really harsh lockdowns in place already? It seems any time a footballer stepped foot off their property there was a scandal about it.

Oh the irony if it is Troy Deeney that tested positive...

So far the players who have raised concerns about coming back are, Troy Deeney, Raheem Sterling, Danny Rose, and Odoi. Frank Lampard, Pep and Nigel Pearson as managers have also raised concerns.

Troy Deeney: It is completely understandable to protect his family. He also said that he lost several members of his family last year and as a result wants to be there for his family.
Danny Rose: Highlighted that the health of the nation is terrible and he does not see the importance of coming back.
Frank and Nigel: Both prefer to have tests used for the public then wasted on their staff/players.
Pep: His mother passed away due to Covid-19.
Odoi- Mentioned that his father has asthma/breathing problems and he does not want to bring back any nasties. But reportedly entertained a "model" and was later taken by the police on an allegation of rape.

My biggest gripe with all of this is that COVID-19 will be here in this incomplete season and well into the next season if a vaccine or miraculous change does not take place.
The healthcare staff, doctors, and nurses are all heading to work putting themselves at risk and their families no matter how good their isolation procedures are when they come back home.
If a player refuses to play on the grounds of health and safety, considering that they probably have the highest levels of medical tests, safety protocols, using private transport, and "repeated" testing, quarantine facilities/procedures and so much more than the average human going through this shit....I do not know what to say?

The season is finishing one way or the other (and there will probably be litigation regardless) per the FA.

The biggest and most comical rationale for the null and voiders at the beginning was the if we wipe out this season we can start fresh in the fall.....as if there was going to be some magical cure that would let the virus know that we are starting a new season so please stop infecting people and causing them to die.

Once null and void was taken away from them, they have now resorted to other more and less obvious ways to complain.

Some have validity, others are just plainly agenda driven.

One of the more interesting parts to me is the levels that teams in the relegation zone will stoop to in order to remain in the PL. I don't think I knew the term "virtue signalling" until this pandemic hit.

(I also learned that Gary Neville does, indeed, "have an opinion of [expletive] EVERYTHING!")

Or that they in fact have recovered and are now immune. The dead virus RNA apparently stay within respiratory cells for up to 10 weeks even if the person has recovered and is no longer infective.

Troy Deeney was one of several Watford players who chose not to take part in small-group training on Wednesday, the day after three members of the club’s playing and coaching staff, including the centre-back Aidy Mariappa, were found to have tested positive for Covid-19.

Klopp saying he won't force any players to come back if they aren't comfortable.

At this point it's all about the testing. No matter how much the clubs at the bottom (and the blue half of Merseyside) want Null and Void the season will be played unless the testing prevents it. Would be pretty embarrassing if Germany, Spain and Italy (pretty much Basil Fawlty's Axis of Evil) were able to finish their seasons and England couldn't.

Liverpool are preparing for a shorter break between seasons due to the disruption to the current campaign caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, manager Jurgen Klopp has said.

The Premier League hopes to restart the season – which usually ends in May – next month. With nine rounds of fixtures remaining, the season will spill over into at least July, while the 2020-21 campaign was set to begin on Aug. 8.

“Today we started with training, good things, not the highest intensity but the boys look in good shape,” Klopp told Liverpool’s website.

“We don’t know exactly how long we have, but we have some time to prepare the rest of this season and already the next season because I don’t think there will be a massive break between the two. We don’t know exactly but we should prepare for a rather shorter break between the two seasons.”

Two more Watford players have been forced to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who has coronavirus, it emerged on Friday, as the Premier League extended its testing regime and fresh doubt was thrown on to the future of English teams in European competitions.

The Watford manager, Nigel Pearson, revealed the development on a day when it emerged the league had increased the tests at each club from 40 to 50 and four teams – Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Wolves – were left wondering what form their Champions League or Europa League participation could take after the government imposed a 14-day quarantine on people entering the UK.
If sports teams are not exempt it increases the chance that the remaining matches will be staged as mini-tournaments in their final venues – Istanbul for the Champions League and Gdansk for the Europa League – once domestic leagues have finished.

Uefa hopes to restart its competitions in August and the Premier League is targeting a resumption next month. The league’s first tests produced six positives from 748 samples but Watford have had to isolate further unidentified players for a week.

Bournemouth have announced that one of the two positive Covid-19 tests from the Premier League’s second round of screening is a player from their squad. The club did not divulge his identity. He will now self-isolate for seven days.

The League said on Saturday that two people had tested positive, each from different clubs, out of 996 players and staff who were screened last Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. That represented a drop from the first round of testing, announced last Tuesday, when six people from 748 were shown to have the virus.

Considering millions have been out of work, millions have been quarantined in small apartments, millions have been forced to be placed on the front lines of things without the medical care and systems in place... and he's getting paid millions... doesnt seem like much to ask for

nobody can predict when crowds will return to games. given the financial impact on clubs, I'm very surprised a PPV model hasn't been discussed (in public anyway) yet. even just for the 20.21 season, to get things stabilized.

The thing about the football players and the virus is that, as a general rule, they are at very little risk of being sicker than if they had the flu. So, the incentive to put themselves thru a rigorous regimen of isolation has zero appeal.

Personally, as someone who would almost surely die if I caught the virus, I find that kind of attitude abhorrent. There was a female hairdresser in Missouri who was sick and went to work for a week with symptoms and potentially infected 91 customers. I understand the economics of the situation, but she should be in prison.
