Yeah but I don’t remember her as the writer. I still have Tapestry though and went to see her in concert with James Taylor.

Wearing masks is a bit like recycling, it looks like you are doing something, but you are not really accomplishing a lot, it makes you feel better.

This was supposed to be only partial until N95 masks became readily available, but somehow people forgot that what we need is N95 masks, not just regular made op of what ever masks,.

    .

    https://www.livescience.com/are-face-masks-effective-reducing-coronavirus-spread.html

Obviously mask help you from coughing all over the place, but some new studies suggest that infections from objects are very low.

So wearing masks is not a substitute from distancing.

It is largely a prophylactic barrier against large droplets, and that's about it.

Yeah if you cough it will lower the amount of droplets you spread around, it won't stop them all.

I do remember a website that ranked the best masks out there, cotton did not rank very well, but it is cheaper, so everyone wears those.

I could not find the website, but here is another

    https://www.jhsph.edu/covid-19/articles/the-right-mask-for-the-task.html

Another problem is that people probably do not separate regular masks from other items and probably do not wash them regularly.

She was a last minute replacement for a guy who had a massive stroke the weekend before classes started. And it's worse. First, we learned little actual history. Second, though, I learned last weekend when a group of us had a Zoom chat with one of our old high school teachers (it was something we'd never done before, but she's dear to us and an older, retired single person feeling isolated in quarantine) and she told us the guy was head of a local Holocaust-denial organization. My comment was that maybe it was a good thing she barely taught us any history.

I might've mentioned it before, but my 9th grade civics teacher was a John Bircher who, a couple devades later, expressed views so out there he got thrown out of the town's The American Legion local.

That article quoted a study from WHO not just some random article and it specifically states that wearing a mask has risks associated with it.

I used to wear one every day all day as a painter spraying really deadly shite. I don't like them, in fact, I cannot stand to wear one anymore. That said,

Yes, I try to always be respectful to others. I follow the norms of the place I am. If all the staff is wearing one then I put mine on. If they aren't then I don't. I test drove cars both with and without masks, depending on the salesman/dealership. The place i bought my Pilot was wearing them (mandatory by dealership) but when I went back early this week to check on something nobody had one on, not even the customers. Same with furniture stores, it is hit and miss on masks. ( I needed a vehicle when I had a house fire last year, which put a stop to all spending not related to survival or remodeling, and am trying furnish my house after remodeling since anything made of fabric was no longer usable.)

I don't get the protesters demanding others comply with their views from either side of the mask debate. The establishment owner can set whatever rules they want, and if I decide to patronize them I will comply with their rules.

Wrote a letter to the editor of the local paper and called in radio shows to show support for Timothy McVeigh. He was identifying himself as the Adjutant of the local post.

Guys like him were the reason why my dad let his membership lapse c. 1950. He wasn't super thrilled that I played Legion baseball in the late '70s. He was fine with cheap beer, but didn't dig the right wing politics pretending to be patriotism.

It wasn't until the 90s when it finally struck me as odd that I didn't have any black teammates on the Legion team. Hell, I even had black teammates on soccer and wrestling!

The size of the virus is smaller than what even N95 masks are rated for. So those N95 masks are not a deterrent let alone cotton masks. Question is if it just reduces at least some of the virus from spreading.

They didn't test whether the distance the virus would spray when wearing the mask. So they didn't rule out a combination of a mask plus social distancing being effective.

That is sorta how I was. I was definitely good, but the problem is that my parents were so much better and intuitive at it, and so were a lot of my friends and relatives. It became very discouraging.

You can see the actual study here:

    https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-1342

And they test what gets through the mask to an area a mere 20cm away from the person. But even then simple masks are reducing the viral load of the target by well over an order of magnitude. Despite the conclusion of the testers, this test actually ended up bolstering the idea that we should be wearing masks among epidemiologists.

A visual representation of what even a simple mask can do over greater distances can be seen here:

Masks is what makes social distancing in public places work. If we didn't wear masks, we'd need to be 12 feet apart to protect from coughs or twice that to protect from sneezes for an extended period of time in the area where the cough or sneeze took place because the high energy from the cough or sneeze not only shoots them out further but makes them hang around in the air longer.

What does that mean to the individual? By everyone wearing masks the small chance of you getting COVID-19 is a tiny bit less. But because of the exponential nature of disease spread, stopping a few cases now stops thousands upon thousands of cases later. Knocking back the R₀ of the virus a few tenths of decimal places would have a profound effect on the course of the epidemic.

  24. in contrast to popular belief the size of the virus doesnot have to be bigger than the size of the entrance of masks. Masks thick enough have static energy pulling passing viruses to their fibres. So although the virus is small enough to fit easily in the space between fibres it gets caught by the static energy.
