That cutback pass by Selke was amazingly hapless, after great hustle to win the ball and be in on goal. All he had to do is lay it across, or even drive at goal w/ a purpose. Instead he plays it backward to the edge of the box, and it was almost intercepted. That's why you have a low goal + assist rate I guess.
Here comes Sargent on for Selke. Kohfeldt first inquired if he could use all 5 subs for Pizarro even though he's only one man and retired before the season. Maybe cloning and regeneration will catch up to realize the dream.
If he doesn't score a goal in the next 20 minutes, it'll just prove his form is really bad and his progress as a player has stalled!!!
He referenced playing for Koln a few years ago, so it wasn't Kirovski. But after 25 minutes of research I figured out that it's Kevin McKenna. His career path explains why his accent was tough to place.
Selke's final stat line today: 70 minutes, 1 shot (blocked), 14/21 passing (only 5 completed in the attacking half), 1 key pass, dispossessed twice, 5 of 7 on aerial challenges.
Werder's just a cut below in midfield, getting circles run around them, and not being able to maintain possession. 4-1 Leverkusen now.
The Werder left back might be the worst professional player I've seen. Just got run around like he was stuck in cement, and then picked up a yellow card. Sargent fighting hard, one nice drop back to the ball and move out into the open field, but this team is useless for gauging any progress at this point. Hopefully he can at least use this as a learning experience.
The pandemic may be changing the world, but it hasn't changed Florian Kohfeldt. He has subbed on four center forwards today. Remarkable.
Werder slow-footed and of mind. Eggestein is one of their unremarkable players. Not much of a collective press for the team. CF isolated. If Kohfeldt thinks Sargent is a problem w/ this club, he's small-minded. He's been solid this season and today battled to win balls in his area + held up. Get someone who can win balls, evade on it, and provide delivery. In retrospect you have to ask what if Sargent would have selected another of his plethora of options. Situation makes such a difference when it comes to outcomes of promising young player. Young Josh needs to keep his head up for when things change here or elsewhere. Control what he can in the interim.
I won't defend him cuz his team is horrendous, but why not with the 4 subs? They are getting destroyed, goal difference is already atrocious, might as well go down swinging.
I think the redundancy of position was the critique, and their biggest problem has been mf not cf, Selke's lack of capitalization notwithstanding.
Sure, but it's not like 4 CFs are standing up top in the same position. Throw on all attacking subs at this point, it can hardly be worse than the 65-80th minute that I watched. They are horrible. Agreed on the midfield, it looked like Leverkeusen was playing against cones or a knock around training exercise. And even if Werder got the ball, they would just turn it over immediately. Still remarkable to me how anyone can think Sargent's form is bad, or that he is playing poorly, when he gets 15 mins a game with this collective poopoo platter. Hope he moves asap.
Because throwing on center forwards and praying for a miracle is lazy and almost never works. Bremen's problem in every single game is that they get run over in midfield, and Kohfeldt's solution is always to throw on forwards at the expense of midfielders. The problem gets worse, the fresh forwards barely see the ball because they get no service, Bremen concedes again, wash, rinse, repeat. Then they're being played out of position! That's even worse!
Agreed, it took the Senators of Serie A to realize that times changed and they could no longer just spend as they saw fit (along with dilapidated stadiums) and are starting to get with the times. One of the benefits of a team like Juve, is that we purchase a lot of players and then loan them throughout Serie A. If they pan out, we normally try and bring them back in or sell them to the current club they are doing well with (See Ricardo Orsolini, Berardi, Giovinco, Miccoli, etc.). The same could happen with Josh.
Let’s hope things go better for Werder and Sarge next week against Freiburg. Wish Josh had gotten on when it was 2-1. That 3rd goal seemed to deflate Werder further.
The one thing I always try to get through the Milanistas' heada are that Juve got to where they are because of a long commitment to building the youth. As results came they found themselves in a position to go out and buy World Class talent. But the project was multiple years. Milan fans are hesitant to accept that model as they feel Milan is too great for that, but most of my fanbase is stuck in the past. Anyways, I do feel a move to Italy overall would be a good move to Josh if one were to materialize depending on who bought him. For this discussion let's assume Juve. As mentioned Juve seems to have a knack for getting their youngsters to teams to flourish. Would Josh ever be a starter or contributor to Juve? Not got a long time. Juve just had their hands in too many young players Could Josh develop at a midlevel Italian team and move to one of the other Italian teams? Absolutely
Preach it. I was surprised they got Selke on loan in January, mostly due to them needing dire help in every other position. Sargent hasn’t lit things up, but him and Osako (who can play as a false 9) is decent cover. Once BVB was in for Can, I feel like Bremen should’ve backed up the brinks truck to get Delaney back. He can at least cover ground and shore up that shit ass midfield a bit.
Bring Delaney back?? You might want to ask Dortmund for their take on losing a very important player for them. More importantly, you could ask the Bremen medical staff for theirs: he's missed most of the season with torn ankle ligaments and an ongoing knee problem. As for asking Delaney if he'd want to go back to Bremen . . .
