If you had to put together a starting XI for Qatar 2022, who would be in it?

For the Cafeteros, for Colombia, if you guys had to put together a starting 11 for Qatar 2022, then who would be in your starting 11 right now...this is merely for fun but I obviously wanna pick your guys' brains on this

I think the keeper and the back line is probably easiest to predict.

Ospina will more than likely be the keeper unless he is injured / Montero or Arboleda explode in Europe some time in the next couple seasons.

The CBs should be Mina and Davinson.

RB could be Arias but Medina is a Queiroz darling. Herrera from the U23 was not bad and could be the future.

LB could be Fabra or Mojica. But then again Tesillo is a Manager darling too. Maybe someone like U23 Fuentes from Junior will be ready by 2022.

Midfield will probably be Barrios and Uribe and Cuads. Yairo, Lerma and Cantillo and even Campuzano all can be starters by then too. I am encouraged by those guys.

Up front is also a craps shoot. I think Diaz and Sinisterra could be solid contributors by then if healthy on the flanks. But if I had to say right now I would say Muriel, and James maybe Villa unless he is banned from the team.
I hope Cucho, Carrascal and Benedetti get a chance too.

The Target man will probably be Duvan. Unless Jhon Cordoba/Morelos/ Santos Borre emerge and get more consistent in better leagues. Maybe Suarez.

I am just going to go with my current stab in the dark type of wild guess:

    ---------------Ospina---------------
    Medina----Mina---Davinson---Fuentes

    --------------Barrios-----Cantillo---------

    ------Cuadrado---------

    Muriel-------Duvan--------Diaz/James

If Osorio takes over due to Queiroz failure:

    ---------Ospina------------

    Arias----Mina---Davinson-Fabra

    ---------Lerma----Balanta----

    ----JuanFer--James---Cardona

    -------------Duvan------------

    :p:ROFLMAO:;)

For my Colombia starting 11...for Qatar 2022 this should be your guys' starting 11

    GK- David Ospina
    LB- Frank Fabra
    CB- Yerry Mina
    CB- Davinson Sanchez
    RB- Santiago Arias
    CDM- Jorman Campuzano
    CM- Jefferson Lerma
    LW- Juan Cuadrado
    CAM- James Rodriguez
    RW- Sebastian Villa
    CF- Rafael Santos Borre

    (4-2-3-1 formation I went with)

Hopefully Santos Borre plays better as a #9 by Winter 2022.
You are new to the forum so I will cut you some slack. I am very critical of him as a Target man.
I would like to see him as a supporting striker though like he played with Pratto at River.

It was either go with him or Duvan but for my lineup I was trying to go for a more youthful starting 11 while still having that experience

Yeah, the issue is that while Duvan has been part of the national team set up since the youth teams he really took a huge step up in his scoring efficiency and consistency in his career than a lot of our other guys, i hope he makes it to Qatar in his best form.

If not, really need to hope one of the next generation really step up. I like this little I've seen of Suarez... but no idea if he holds up at highest level of competition and consistently

    Play a 4-2-2-2
Magic 6'9 GK that is 22 and pops up in 2021 is playing in Italy
    Sanchez
    Mina
Magic superstar that comes out of nowhere and plays RWB, Same with the LWB
Magic 4 MFs that come out of nowhere
2 World class strikers that develop from now to 2022.

No way Cuadrado makes the 2022 team. At the rate James gave up before 2018. I don't even see him in 2022. I don't rate Quintero 1/1,000,000,000th as high as most of you seem to.

Just remember in 2015/2016. Would any of us have imagined Sanchez-Mina? Really hope more of these guys pop up. Tho am happy with Abel type players who play for 2nd division for a while before they finally make it to the main league like Luis Suarez and John Cordoba.

    but if it was today
    --------------------Ospina*---------------------------
    ------ Sanchez---------Mina-------Lucumi-------
    Arias---------------------------------------------Luis Diaz
    -------------------Lerma------Barrios---------------
    --------------------------James-----------------------
    --------------Duvan------------Borre----------------

*Gattuso saved his career at Napoli but the Italians want the "new Buffon" to play instead. Hopefully his transfer to Sampdoria happens and he starts all 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons.
    * Hope Lucumi is the new Sanchez if that is the case use 3 in the back because our RB/LB can't defend or can't attack. Use more offensive ones.

I hope Arias and James Summer moves jump start their career. Rumors of Luis Diaz at Inter he would be forced to place that role under Conte system.

MF I don't like Barrios. Just don't see him getting benched unless Cantillo has 2 god like seasons in Brazil but that wasn't enough for Cuellar.

This is probably the most realistic and Colombia definitely will be a team to watch in 2022

I don't think Queiroz would ever do a back line of three. If anything he would stick with his back line of 4 CBs Medina--Mina----Sanchez---Tesillo.

He also seems to love Cuadrado as our #8. Unless someone emerges as a better option I think it is safe to say he will be starting every major game for us until the end of the cycle.

You make it seem like they just magically showed up out of nowhere.

Mina was playing very well in Santa Fe and scoring crazy goals with his headers back then. He also played in U22 Olympic Playoff Qualifiers.

Davinson also played in those Olympic Playoff Qualifiers and looked awesome in the Libertadores in 2016 for Rueda.

So to give the impression they came out of nowhere is a little bit of hyperbole.

I will say I hope some kid pops up from the Colombian League or Argentina or Mexico and takes the world by storm but it probably will not happen.

Colombia need a youth overhaul...like what I mean is having that experience with some veterans but the team needs to be more younger, more fresh because in 2014 they were one of the teams in the tournament to watch because they were so young...so exciting, so fast on the ball. In 2018 it was like Colombia got slower or they were more so surrounded by vets. With a younger looking team, I know Colombia in 2022 can go further.

There are some good younger players like Diaz at Porto and Sinisterra at Feyenoord who have a chance to start by 2022 in my opinion. Lucumi maybe on Defense and Cuesta in Belgium.

Considering the circumstances and current climate though it would be difficult to transition in new players with a condensed schedule and very few friendlies.
I think it will be harder and to acclimate new guys and we have to probably rely on the older veterans.

That said, Queiroz is known for finding young diamonds in the rough so I hope that happens this cycle somehow.

Yeah if Queiroz is still manager, then I can see this team still being defensive minded even going into 2022 but if there is a new manager, then I can see the young guys getting a chance

Or another squad I would go with for the Cafeteros

GK- David Ospina (34 years old; 2022)
LB- Frank Fabra (31 years old; 2022)
CB- Yerry Mina (28 years old; 2022)
CB- Davinson Sanchez (26 years old; 2022)
RB- Santiago Arias (30 years old; 2022)
DM- Jefferson Lerma (28 years old; 2022)
DM- Eder Alvarez Balanta (29 years old; 2022)
LAM- Luis Sinisterra (23 years old; 2022)
CAM- James Rodriguez (captain) (31 years old; 2022)

RAM- Steven Alzate (24 years old; 2022)
CF- Alfredo Morelos (26 years old; 2022)

    CB- Davinson Sanchez
    RB- Arias
    CDM- Lerma
    CDM- Barrios
    LCM- Matias Uribe
    RCM- Juan Cuadrado
    LS- James Rodriguez
    RS- Duvan Zapata

    Bench

    GK- Montero, Arboleda
    LB- Borja, Mojica
    CB- Lucumi, Jeison Murillo

Steven Alzate still abit green, but he shows alot of promise, and if he has a more consistent season with Brighton, I can see him getting more calls. He's going to be battling with Nicolas Bendetti for that attacking role back up. As I don't see Juan Quintero going to play like in the 2018 World Cup anytime soon.
