In my life, I was lucky enough to have the chance to visit two big exhibitions of Hokusai's works in my town, Milan, one of them many years ago and another one quite recently instead (maybe a pair years ago?), that included also works from other famous Japanese artists, as Utamaro.
Hi everyone REMINDER ▶ The History of Nadeshiko Japan (なでしこジャパン) https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/2109546/ ...oh well, the people have spoken. (or, not spoken) AAARGH MAKE IT STOP
That looks like it has the potential to be a really good movie. I dislike having to use subtitles because they so rarely get the intended meaning across and, no matter how well they are displayed, they interfere with the intended visuals. My spoken Japanese is mostly OK but, judging by the trailer, this movie could be one that really stretches my understanding. It may be one that I have to watch three times to get the full meaning of every part: 1 - Watch without subs in a relaxed mode to get the flow and feeling of the film. 2 - Watch with subs to be sure of mostly understanding the dialog. 3 - Repeat #1 but try to catch the subtleties of inflection delivered by the actors. I find if I watch in that way I can end up mostly understanding what the actors and director was trying to achieve and it increases my enjoyment of the film. The problem there are just a few movies in any language that are worth watching that way. However there are several Japanese made movies that are more than worth the effort, such as in no particular order: 1- The Family Game 2- The Burmese Harp 3- Giants and Toys (This was a comedy/drama that I did not get the comedy of at all on the first watching (Sometimes Japanese humor is hard for us westerners to understand) after all many Japanese found Jerry Lewis funny) but was extremely funny on the third) 4- Seven Samurai (For me this is the best Japanese movie ever made. It makes the great English language remake "The Magnificent Seven" look like a Saturday afternoon two real movie. 5- Pitfall (This is a very difficult movie to watch but so well made that I could not leave it off this list) 6- Rashomon - ( I could have said this was my favorite Japanese movie but I like the pacing of "The Seven Samurai" a bit more. But on a purely drama based perspective I have to say that I believe this is bes Japanese made mystery of all time. There are several others I could list here but I just realized this was turning into a movie review or rating post and I doubt many would be much interested an old soccer player/coach/fan's movie reviews. What I wanted to point out was that this movie has the appearance that it could be one I could enjoy. I hope is reaches the States sometime soon. Thank you for the trailer. I know my granddaughters, living in Japan, will want to see it when it is available and they can get to it.
I'll be honest - I'd much prefer to learn about the round-ball football history So much handballing.
And then Japan went to the Rugby World Cup, and Ireland replaced their real national anthems with a rock parody By the way, this rugby thread also a has football version, titled ▶ The History of Nadeshiko Japan (なでしこジャパン), and it's still got 0 replies

It's Twitter, for god's sake. They won't let Fifa show a U.S. defeat. If only BigSoccer had a thread where you could watch & discuss the great Japan matches
Well, I uploaded all Japan matches (except defeat vs. England) some years ago (and I remember post here the links in other nadeshiko thread). If there are still there, I could post them again.
Yes, that would be extremely awesome. I've found a 2011 pre-World Cup game that I'll post, but the first one is the vital qualifier in 2010 https://www.bigsoccer.com/posts/38604941/
If you posted them again I would watch them. I have only ever watched the games with Japanese commentary, so I would be curious to hear them in English.
Now they are here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/▶-the-history-of-nadeshiko-japan-なでしこジャパン.2109546/
It still stands that people could post their best Nadeshiko eleven. Mine would not go back further than 2008, because I have no real way of judging players before then. It is just an idea. I may post my "Nadeshiko Best" in the next week or two. I have to think about it
something other (than resume of Nadeshiko League) to look for in June [/QUOTE] I would like to add this movie. This may already have been released in several European countries, but not in the U.S. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10901588/
Welp, i did not expect to draw this kind of attention from an innocent tweet But if it gets Hasegawa-san to notice me sure why not haha "Quarantine content @FIFAWWC need to RT." We agree @ishneak. 🤯 https://t.co/QbqzkUkcow— FIFA Women's World Cup (@FIFAWWC) May 3, 2020 Hey how are you all doing in your respective countries? Hope nobody or their loved ones and friends are getting sick at all! Take care!!
Hi Mia: everything ok for me and my parents and friends: no-one is sick, although North of Italy, where I live, is one of the most affected areas in the world and it will take time before we're back at normality. Thanks for checking on us: of course I hope everyone else is ok too! And of course thanks for the video of charming and awesome Yui Hasegawa.
Thanks Amos! Me and my family are also doing fine, our country is still on lockdown but thankfully the worst seem to be over but i really hope there won't be a second wave. I know Italy got hit hard that's why i am so glad to hear that you are fine It's been fun looking at the videos of the Nadeshiko, i was just grinning at an update by Ami Sugita promoting PPAP Coronavirus Version, hehe!

Haha this one: It was a popular silly music video in Japan maybe three years ago, updated now to help campaign against the coronavirus. Yoko uploaded a lifting video with other players who were born in 1993! 1256927856451559424 is not a valid tweet id I think they are all a little bored. Though Yoko said on twitter that May 2nd was the first time in 50 days she could go outside for exercise. Nojima have been posting stuff regularly too.
I have had a bit of free time, so I watched all of Nadeshiko's games from the 2011 World Cup and there were a few things I noticed regarding the way the team played compared to now. They defended way better back in 2011. Watch the Germany game and Germany did not create too many dangerous chances; the same with Sweden. The US was very different, but the Americans played incredibly well that day. It was probably their best game of the tournament, which they lost. I think Sasaki just focused more on defence, but there were fewer major defensive errors. Again it is a small sample size. However, the 2011 team did not move the ball that quickly in attack. It was generally slow build play. I have issues with Takakura, but I do think that when Nadeshiko play well under her they move the ball more quickly and look more dangerous. Look at the goal they scored against the Americans in the "She Believes Cup". It was a bad press from Rapinoe and Nadeshiko were away. I really believe this is one aspect over the last year and a half Nadeshiko have improved. Of course they need a bit of time to gel, because they make a lot of mistakes otherwise like against Spain in the "She Believes Cup".
Well, I hope no Nadeshiko player breaks any piece of forniture in their aparments! Some incidental piece of new info? Who's the player in Alamein FC in Australia?
