According to Danish media, Sabbi refused an offer from Besiktas, before he signed with OB Odense. TheTurkish side offered him a contract of around $450k a year, but he had absolutely no interest in a move to Turkey and refused the offer according to the player agent Caglar Koycu who was representing the Turkish club. https://www.bold.dk/fodbold/nyheder/medie-emmanuel-sabbi-afviste-besiktas/
I'd say the Danish Superliga and the Turkish Süper Lig are close at this point, with the former trending up. So it's a good thing. An upgrade from playing in Hobro, a permanent relegation candidate. Of course Odense is mid-table while Beşiktaş is a Europa candidate, but we don't know the specifics of what he was offered by Odense.
The few top clubs in the Turkish league are decent and have lots of old former big and well known "names" from the top-4 leagues, even more so than MLS, but besides being in the outskirts of Europe, if you can even consider it a part of Europe, which we officially do not consider it to be here in Denmark, then the Turkish league is the "old men" league of all of "Europe", so from a Danish point of view, it's the absolute least attractive league in or close to Europe beside moving to Cyprus and Eastern Europe, and obviously Sabbi has also been warned not to move there : https://football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/atlas/en/
I had lunch with a recently retired prominent MLS player who talked about going on trial in Turkey. It was first division team (can’t remember the name but not one of the big clubs) and he described players being paid in cash left in their locker areas and if you lost there was a good chance you wouldn’t get paid and players carrying guns because they had stacks of cash. Basically sounded like the wild west. Clubs do what they want and if you don’t like it you can f&&& off and if you want to try and move through legal channels good luck.
Well, I can only say that so long Denmark is part of the European Union, Turkey is never going to become a member state, even though the USA have been pushing for them to be able to join ... and since we are among the Northern European countries paying for it all and for the less fortunate, it's never going to happen, because it would be highly expensive... In any case the Greek hate Turkey with a vengeance and I suspect that Cyprus and Italy do the same, and for historical reasons Romania do not like muslims, having being invaded by the Ottoman Caliphate amd the Polish have been invade so may times that they do not really like foreign cultures, except for the rich Northern Europeans.
Is Besiktas any different? Canadian-Atiba Hutchinson- has been there nearly seven years. I don't think he's ever had a negative word against the league. what about the ukrainian and russian leagues? are they similar or different?
Oof, yeah, the Greek/Turkish hate goes deep, not only from several thousands of years of conflict, but also the much more recent atrocities that both sides committed following WWI. Half of Cyprus loves Turkey, considering the Turks took half the island in the 70's. Turkey's a cool place, I've been to Ephesus and Istanbul for a few days with a host family, but I'd stay in Denmark if I were Sabbi. Better development and closer proximity to other bigger European leagues (e.g Bundesliga).
75 year anniversary of the German surrender at Lüneburger Heide on the 4th of May to take effect on the 5th of May 1945 ... it happened a bit sooner here in Denmark and in Northern Germany in compare to the rest of Europe, not because of a quicker defeat, but because the Germans were on the brink of a surrender in any case, but there were no way they were going to suffer the surrender of Denmark or Northern Germany to the Russians, so then rather a bit quicker to Montgomery. . A fun fact, all the way during WW2 the English BBC were sending their daily news-broadcast about the progress of the war to Denmark, including secret messages to the Danish resistance movement ... The music played at the start of each WW2 BBC broadcast to Denmark was "The Prince of Denmark's March" (Prins Jørgens March) written in 1699 for and in honor of Prince George (Jørgen) of Denmark and Norway, Duke of Cumberland, who married Anne, Queen of Great Britain .... which I think is most excellently presented by the Wynton Marsalis version below :
Though not on schedule, the Superliga is back on track so this season will be finished and the first game, AGF Aarhus v Randers, will be played on 29. May, while it's not quite sure when Hobro and Sabbi then likewise will be able to face Randers in their first game after the "Coronavirus break". There is a small issue about the contract signed between Sabbi and OB Odense that also has to be renegotiated, due to the season not being finished on time due to the Coronavirus delay, which then has the implication that Sabbi most likely will be staying at Hobro to the end of the season and not to the supposed end of his contract, that will be extended according to some new "coronavirus" rules.
Btw, in collaboration with Discovery Networks and the international digital video platform, Zoom. AGF Aarhus will be presenting the worlds first virtual soccer grandstands and stadium on 29. May : https://www.agf.dk/football-is-back-in-denmark-the-worlds-first-virtual-grandstand-opens-in-aarhus/
Western Europe is having enough problems keeping united (bye England!) already, it's not like they are in any position to be thinking of new members. With the entire COVID fiasco, they'll be busy the next 20 years trying to keep things joined with bubblegum and spit.
The Superliga schedule is now in place ... the AGF vs. Randers game has been moved to 28. march, so that Randers is also able to play against Hobro on 1. June.
The Danish Football Players' Association that represents footballers in both Denmark as well as Danish footballers abroad, have come to an agreement with the Divisional Employers' Association (of the Danish Division Association), so that all players in the two top divisions, the Superliga and NordicBet Liga, get the opportunity to have their contracts extended until 31. July. As it is, lots of top division players have contracts that expire on 30. June, which obviously could be a problem for both the players and their clubs. "We are pleased that we have reached an agreement where all players are offered a short-term contract extension until 31. July and so get the opportunity to finish this season. The agreement ensures that we do not leave any players behind, said the Player Association's administrative manager, Michael Sahl Hansen. https://www.bt.dk/fodbold/superligaen-laver-unik-aftale Regarding Sabbi, then his contract with Hobro may expire on 30. June, a month before the end of this season, but even if he has a signed contract with OB Odense he will not be eligible to play for them until next season, while I'm sure Hobro would need him badly, in hope of escaping relegation. So it's all a bit tricky, but really it's now more or less up to Sabbi if he want a short-term extension of his contract, so he can finish this season for Hobro. So far he has said that he is moving to OB Odense according to plan. and I guess that's the easy choice, trying not to create a problem regarding his new contract with OB Odense, on the other hand Odense then will be paying wages for a player they can not make any use of until next season, and he will not be able to play, so I'm not sure if that is the best solution for him or OB Odense, and obviously not for Hobro either.
