How big of a deal is winning the Scottish Cup? Is it equal to the English FA Cup? Just curious. Or is it just another meaningless tourny?
It is a big deal. As important here as the FA cup is in England. I love the Scottish cup, it has a great history to it. Often my favourite part of the season.
I'm glad it is a big deal. I love following the FA Cup and enjoy seeing the small clubs in their REALLY small stadiums take on the bigger, richer clubs. Talk about great football. Can I listen to any of the Scottish Cup online?? Thanks.
Over here I imagine you can listen to probably all the games on saturday from here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/sportsound/. I know the rules are different on listening from a different country though but I imagine there will be at least one game you could listen to. You might need to wait a couple of days to find out which one though.
I got hooked on Scottish football several years ago when the games were carried here. Now, I can only get snippets off the BBC or Skysports. Thanks for the link though.
Actually, you can listen to EVERY SPL match besides the weekly Celtic or Rangers matches on bbcradio in Scotland via the Internet. It is great. I did it all last season.....very cool and real hearing the announcers say stuff like, "I can't feel my feet!" That's how cold it can get. The only way you can hear Celtic matches is by paying for it on their official website. You also might want to check out: http://www.nafcsc.com/clubs/usa.htm Contact them and ask them if there are any members in AL. I didn't see any Celtic Supporter Clubs in Alabama. Maybe you should start your own? Peace.
Thanks Catfish. I will try the BBC site tomorrow from work. I have slow dial-up at home. I emailed the North American Celtic site to get some info. I will let you know the results.
East Fife 0-0 Dunfermline A good result for us, we made them look very ordinary at times. The replay is a week on Tuesday, it will be difficult but, if a bunck of penguins can do it......
yeah, i wanted to say congrats to Gordon and East Fife. I saw that today and I thought a job well done.
Be sure to listen in to the Livi-Morton game tonight - http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/sportsound/ Should be fun with the 75mph winds forecast - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4163745.stm It's a little hard to walk outside right now lol
'Farcical' and 'Ridiculous' are both words to describe the conditions the game will go ahead in. (by the managers) This game shouldn't be going ahead, unfortunately the fans have already travelled so it will go ahead.
Livi won 2-1 with a game which never should have taken place! It was an absolute joke. You shouldn't have to try to play in a 75mph wind! The hail stones didn't help either! Also angry Morton got a goal choped off for offside. It was an own goal and apparently the only player offside was no-where near him!
Boo hoo hoo! The conditions were a bit of a joke, but I had expected worse. There were two pitch inspections scheduled and the pitch was perfectly playable. The officials knew what the weather was meant to be like, but decided the game should go ahead. Anyway, if the game had been called off again the complaining from the Morton fans would have been unbearable! I was a bit disappointed with the officials and Morton. The ref booked players for nothing and then let even worse challenges go completely unpunished. Apart from that the Morton team really struggled. Livi played against the wind in the first half and despite this, should have scored 3/4 goals. Morton obviously had more of the ball but they didn't really trouble our keeper. In the second half Morton hardly left their own half and were pinned back. The conditions weren't the best, but Livi fully deserved the victory. I have no idea about the "offside" goal. I could not see from my position in the centre of the main stand. However, the linesman quickly put the flag up as the ball was played in. Therefore the referee was correct in disallowing the goal. Credit to the Morton fans who made the trip. MotM: McPake Awful: The Morton keeper.
He's not usually the first choice 'keeper. Although both are prone to blunders! The commentary was quite funny, Gordon Smith's coffe blew over and went on everyone around him Gough said the conditions were farcical BTW. Our team is pretty crap BTW, Mahood is shite, Keenan and McAlister are not good enough yet, the back 4 is usually ok, Greacen is just back from about a month out. 'Kepper situation has been a problem. Chris Millar is quality and Paul Walker is good on his day, Templeman would've helped as well. We're mid-table in the 2nd division so you should've expected an easy win really. Although Morton are a bigger team than the 2nd division. We feel like we should be beating teams like Medowbank.
I enjoyed listening to the game here in the sunny southern USA. It was 75 F here yesterday. I cannot imagine playing a game in 75 mph wind and hail. What awful conditions. I was also unusre of the off-sides/own goal call. Could someone give me a description? The announcers seemed perplexed about it.
Free-kick was taken long into the box and the defender headed the ball straight over the 'keeper into his own net. There was no Morton player in an offside position interfering with play. Although in fairness the whistle went early because the flag went up. Refs get these offside things wrong all the time. Not complaining about the result, was a freak game. Was gutted that I missed the game, although everyone was freezing and soaked so maybe it was a lucky escape This quote from The Herald about summed up how ridiculous it all was: "With the rain turning to hail and the wind continuing un-abated, the Morton defenders were reduced to covering their faces with their arms as they tried to guess where the ball and their opponents were."
