Watching the 2012 game vs DC United (and DeRo) at Buck Shaw. One of the things I get a kick out of when viewing these old games is Marvin Chavez. He was fun to watch. Not to mention imagining that Morrow and Beitashour were still with the Quakes through 2019. I have to think that those 7 years would have been different.
Didn't realize TUDN was also showing 60-minute condensed versions of classic MLS games, kicking myself not adding the 1996 opener to my DVR https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/04/15/tudn-air-new-series-featuring-greatest-games-mls-history What's left involving us: May 12 LA Galaxy vs. San Jose Clash: April 28, 1996 The first NorCal-SoCal battle in MLS May 13 San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy: June 9, 2001 Landon Donovan stars against his hometown team May 14 LA Galaxy vs. San Jose Earthquakes: April 3, 2008 Donovan & Beckham team up to handle California rivals May 15 San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy: June 30, 2012 Over 50,000 at Stanford Stadium witness an MLS classic May 18 LA Galaxy vs. San Jose Earthquakes: July 17, 2015 Robbie Keane puts on a show All will be at 3 pm PT
Quakes 2013 Stanford game vs LA was rebroadcast on YouTube today and is available on YouTube at: Alan Gordon is one of 4 commentators during this game (although he doesn't show up onscreen with the others until the 33rd minute of the video. His comments were extremely interesting to hear. He spoke about how much the team loved Frank Yallop. How and why Yallop was fired. How EQ resembled other "bottom feeder" teams in the league (meaning owners and executives who wouldn't pay what they should have paid) How players reacted to that. How other teams figured out the Quakes and what the team lacked to get past that. And other comments. Very interesting!!!
Watching Quakes at RSL from June 2012 is on channel 40..... Jon Busch , Jason Hernandez , Alan Gordon , Salinas coming for Simon Dawkins..... Hernandez saves a sure goal with a header over the bar... Alan Gordon scores a head shot in the 75th minute! Javier Morales tied it up in the 79th with a beautiful free kick! Gordon lays a beauty to Wondo who scores the winner! It was really a shame the club couldn’t build a perennial winner off of that team. What memories from that incredible season!
It has been so long I forgot how fun that 2012 team was to watch. These reruns also reminded me of the more intimate atmosphere at Buck Shaw. Earthquakes Stadium is a cool venue, but i miss that.
Did anyone else "attend" the fan event with Wondo, Lenny, and Gordo last night? That 2012 team was a once-in-a-career experience for all of them...and they seemed to have many good memories of PortaPotty Stadium too.
