I was searching for a thread to post a story about German tanks, I did not see anything worth bumping, so lets create this thread to see if the Europeans ever get to agree on this "dream" of a shared defense union.

First post about what this thing is supposed to be.

BTW, I did not know that Defense and Defence are both correct grammar,

The British and French have had a very strong defence partnership, even involving a plan to share a defence carrier for a little while. Unless Germany is willing to stump up much more money for an expanded military there will be a great inbalance which may he too much for the French to bare.

No surprise with the Leopard 2. I mean it was an excellent tank when it first rolled down the assembly line in 1979. But as the first article rightly points out was never really designed for what it's used right now. Large scale tank battles on relativley flat terrain against tze evil soviets. Modifications can only go so far thanks to weight limits. Still one of the fastest moving heavy tanks available.

Probably one of the reasons why France and Germany want to develop a new heavy tank together in the forseeable future. A new jet is apparently also in the pipeline.

Also even without a singled out "EU Army" Command structure military cooperation between European countries has intensified over the last decade. It's mainly about complementing each others strengths and weaknesses instead of just ramping up military power as individual nations.

Yeah well Kramp-Karrenbauer says that but she failed to coordinate that decision with her coalition partner who are very much opposed to that deal and prefer the Eurofighter option.

From the people that invented the fighter Jet.

"The German armed forces’ digital and communications systems are in a woeful state. Some facilities have no WiFi, paper-only medical records need to be mailed and military documents are sent by fax, rather than secure emaill, according to a report."
