Yes, there are costs to the lockdown. The costs of opening up prematurely are greater. Read the research. Not just opinions.
Anarchy and revolution. I've read lots of research. It's called history. When you don't learn its lessons, it repeats itself. When there are bread riots, people lose their heads -- literally. And you should not expect to be spared by sheltering in place. The economy is collapsing. Shelter in place cannot go on indefinitely, notwithstanding's Newsom's dictatorial decree.
The Bill of Rights Is Not ‘above’ Any Government Leader’s ‘Pay Grade’ New Jersey governor Phil Murphy said he “wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights” while implementing social-distancing measures — writing off any constitutional considerations as being “above [his] pay grade.” Murphy made the comments during a Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson on Wednesday night, in response to Carlson questioning the constitutionality of his executive order. “That’s above my pay grade, Tucker,” Murphy responded. “I wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this. . . . We went to the scientists who said people have to stay away from each other.” As anyone with even the most basic understanding of the United States government should know, Murphy could not have been more wrong with this answer. . . . Make no mistake: If you are an elected official in the United States of America, considering the Constitution when you govern is never “above your pay grade.” It is, in fact, a major reason that you’re even getting paid at all. Again: This is an absolute fact. It’s not up for debate, and what’s more, it’s not as if Murphy had no way to know so. Rather, before officially beginning his tenure as governor, Murphy himself took an oath of office that doesn’t just state but actually begins with the following: “I, _____, elected governor of the State of New Jersey, do solemnly promise and swear, that I will support the Constitution of the United States . . .” In other words? In January 2018, Murphy solemnly promised, he solemnly swore, to uphold the Constitution — and now, in April 2020, he is declaring the exact same duty that he’d vowed to hold sacred to be “above [his] pay grade.” . .. https://www.nationalreview.com/2020...s-not-above-any-government-leaders-pay-grade/

The problem with these projections for the USA are that we do not have uniform laws and rules about how to deal with this. So just because WA, CA, and NY are on the mend doesn't mean that other parts of the country are not in take-off mode. I think it's dangerous to generalize and to start talking about lifting restrictions when part of the country have never had restrictions and could turn into viral hotspots in a heartbeat or two. This isn't under control until the whole country is under control, and we're not there yet. Go Quakesfans!! - Mark
Saturday night used to have All in the Family, Bob Newhart Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show. Quite a lineup.

And next to that article about the beaches: SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — The United States saw the most deaths due to COVID-19 on Thursday. Within 24 hours, 4,591 deaths were reported in the country, according to data from John Hopkins University & Medicine. The previous record was 2,569 on Wednesday. That looking like a peak to anyone? *** and also: SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A youth soccer coach from San Jose was arrested for allegedly sending pictures of his genitals to a 16-year-old girl through Snapchat, police said Thursday.
by: Tristi Rodriguez Posted: Apr 16, 2020 / 08:36 PM PDT / Updated: Apr 16, 2020 / 09:40 PM PDT SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — The United States saw the most deaths due to COVID-19 on Thursday. Within 24 hours, 4,591 deaths were reported in the country, according to data from John Hopkins University & Medicine. The previous record was 2,569 on Wednesday. Ms Rodriquez is either very poor at reporting, or maybe purposefully misleading you. I keep trying to tell you that you need to think as well as read. Then do a google search or two. Otherwise, you are likely to fall victim to poor journalism, like this. Let me dissect: First sentence is false. Deaths on Thursday is different than deaths reported on Thursday. A quick search will let you know that several THOUSAND of those deaths were ones that NY decided to reclassify. So those deaths didn't happen on Thursday, they were reported on Thursday. A thinking mind would then ask: why did NY reclassify thousands of deaths? Does it make sense to change definitions in the middle of your data collection? Does changing the definitions of data parameters in the middle of an experiment fall under your definition of good science practice?
Well, everyone is reporting those numbers, including the Wall Street Journal, and no one is suggesting that the bump is due to a new way of counting deaths. (Home deaths in New York have not been included in totals as those people did not obtain medical care and thus we don't know for sure, though the fact that the number of home deaths has risen tenfold suggests Covid as a key factor .) Let me walk you through this. 1. For a variety of political reasons, tests have not been widely available. 2. Most people with serious Covid infections present with similar symptoms, including fever and cough. An x-ray or CT scan show lung involvement that is specific to Covid. If I'm a health care worker and I see a critically ill patient with those symptoms and that scan, I can be reasonably sure that patient has Covid. Running a test at that point is largely irrelevant. 3. If that patient dies, then that's a Covid death. Not including that in the count would be undercounting. China apparently undercounted for political reasons. Is that who we want to emulate, China? Experiment? Really? Interesting choice of words to describe a pandemic. The definition of "data parameters" have not changed at all. The data we are collecting here is the number of deaths. And we need to count them all, not artificially suppress them to appease the emperor.
