When this all started, I didn't realize how many matches were going to be rebroadcast by all the different channels. Now it looks like we'll be stuck watching old matches for awhile, so I decided to start a thread for any of the matches' discussion and info on any of the upcoming matches instead of continuing to clutter up the News and Media thread.

Consider this your pre/pbp/post thread for all of the matches that are being rebroadcast.

The announced rebroadcasts still to come:
On US Soccer (on all their channels) on Thursdays at 8 pm ET:
April 9: last year's game against Australia (in April 2019)
April 16: May 9, 1997 game vs England

I imagine US Soccer will continue to do them on Thursdays after April 16 as well. And we'll probably get some more FIFA at Home matches, too (still hoping for the 2011 US v Brazil quarterfinal!).

Also I just re-watched the FIFA at Home 2015 WWC US v Germany match (still up on FIFA's YouTube channel for those who missed it), and I honestly wonder what the outcome of the game would have been if we had had VAR in 2015. I'm NOT saying the US didn't deserve to win the game as I think we were the better team with better chances, but the US was also lucky with some calls. Just serves as a reminder that it takes both a good team and good luck to win it all.

    Bravo lil.

This Match was an original casualty of my various DISH Network hardware replacements that I've endured over time. I plan to remedy that in the coming weeks - - - what a Match. For something different, I'm planning to rewatch tonight and follow along with the original Big Soccer Match Thread from 2015 that is currently on page 21.:D

Also, this Match is a non-U.S. Broadcast so we are spared the sententious ramblings of that grumpy old man - - Dr. Joe Machnik. Julie is an Angel and did nothing wrong.

I have kind of gone in the other direction from many people here. I am not watching the old matches much at all because I have seen most of them and I already know the outcome.

I have even gone so far as to cancel my Hulu with live TV subscription for the duration because I only had it because it was the least expensive product I could find that had all the sports I wanted. Now none of the leagues I watch are playing so there is no point in having a subscription for what I will not use.

Life goes on but sports do not always.

Is there any way we can sue the novel coronavirus for wrecking our lives?

This is not at all related to soccer, so sorry about the tangent, and we two have already had the discussion on rewatching games. But there IS one live sport happening right now, and I'm following (running is my other sport). Its the Quarantine Backyard Ultra: 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour (either a loop in your neighborhood/backyard or on treadmill). Last man standing. There's currently 2 runners left (over 2000 started); they've been going since the morning of April 4 and are getting close to hitting 250 miles total.

If anyone is desperate to watch something live...

I prefer sporting events where the contestants start and finish the event alive. :ROFLMAO::p:cool: I would never have enjoyed myself in ancient Rome.

I've been working 6 days a week for the last 3 weeks and am envious of your free time. Would love to rewatch some of these matches. Was hoping to have time to watch US v Ger 2day, but catching up on chores, yard, etc. nixed that. Maybe on Thursday

Currently scheduled to be replayed at Midnight (Eastern) both nights. You have two choices:
    1. Full participation (preferred)
    2. Try and sleep only to be intermediately awoken by cheers and screams of joy in your neighborhood.
    Stay Healthy you rascals.

Why? Is it a better match or a more interesting one than US vs Japan?

I don't really have a dog in this fight but I am interested to know what might make one match a superior choice over another.

I just voted for the US-BRA match on twitter, tho I just realized the US-JPN match they are referring to is the one in 2011, honestly, can't it be both? I enjoyed both matches even though the US really choked on the PKs at the end of the 2011 final and it was the first time I literally cried on the train in my Wambach jersey and had depression for 3 days straight afterwards. The only thing I could say to myself to make myself feel better was at least it was Japan winning the World Cup and at least Germany, Brazil or Sweden didn't beat us cause I really have a natural hate against those teams, from a rivalry standpoint mind you. :sneaky:

With a bit of hyperbole (but not much), I'll declare that the US matches against Brazil and Japan at the 2011 World Cup were the best ever.

At the end of the US loss to Japan, I found that I wasn't sad. It felt like a bit of historical justice (if such a thing exists) . Japan had just suffered the Tsunami and was in chaos; it wasn't even certain that Japan would participate in the World Cup. And in any case Japan wasn't considered a team with much chance to win. That Japan won was a triumph of the underdog.

I was also pissed off when Pia subbed out Rapinoe in the 114th minute for Heath while the US was leading 2-1. Rapinoe had had a great game and the substitute seemed to me a desire by Pia to give Heath (a player favored by Pia, as Rapinoe was not) a few minutes in a WC finale rather than having any tactical or intelligent purpose.

My dissatisfaction was confirmed a few minutes later when Heath missed in the shoot out, although to be fair Heath wasn't the only US player who missed.

Given that the US players were greeted like conquering heroes when they returned to the US after the loss to Japan, I think a lot of people felt the same way I did. We lost because the gods of soccer were on the side of the Japanese.

I kind of just want to answer by saying "if you know, you know." But in an effort to actually answer the question, the Japan game was a great one (although frustrating for US fans in that we went ahead 2x), but for drama, it cannot match the Brazil game. The Brazil match itself probably didn't have as much "beautiful" play, but the refereeing, the craziness of that goal, and all of it just made the Brazil game EPIC.

Plus, its really the game that drew in tons of new USWNT fans, not the Japan game. Its the game that propelled the team into the fandom that it enjoys today from the dark years of c. 2004-2010.

And @blissett , I totally understand that Japan fans feel differently. ;)

This game is on now, and if you missed the pre-game chat, you'll want to go back and watch it. Its with Foudy, Hamm, and Chastain:

Also, this is one of the games in which Debbie Keller started and where a young Pearce was starting with Fawcett and Overbeck out with pregnancies.

I should also say, for the sake of international women's soccer history, Hope Powell nearing the end of her international career and Kelly Smith at the beginning of hers are also starting in this game.

Also spoiler alert: apparently US Soccer chose this game because Hamm scores a hat trick. Her third goal is just magnificent.
