Here's my current "avatar" on my work gmail account. So far, it's been good for a few laughs: This is nothing new for me - as a young boy, my brother and I not infrequently played Jesse and Frank James, so bandana-masks are nothing new to me!
I've been using my Lenhart wig for all work avatars, including GoogleDocs and Zoom, for years. It gets LOTS of comments. This is my zoom background:
Here I am doing my own yard work again, since no gardeners are allowed in Portola Valley. I don’t know about the rest of San Mateo County, seems to vary amongst cities. Note the USSF Referee shirt!
Happy Passover/Chag sameach. A bit of a downer this year, but a day to acknowledge all the good things that have happened to get us to this point...rather than dwell on the eleventh plague.
So Passover pictures are all over our company Slack today... they can't get eggs in Israel right now, due to Covid-19, and that seems to be a really big deal :\
Yeah, we couldn't get much of anything food-related. I had two boxes of leftover matzah, leftover wine, and my daughter scrounged up a box of (expired) gluten-free matzah ball mix. I can't recommend it. Charoses made from oranges and almonds, and instead of horseradish, chipotle habanero sauce. No dessert because my mother the dessert queen is SIP in Palo Alto. A Zoom seder with friends. Dayenu!.
My extended family is having a zoom-seder, but I don't know if I will participate. I've been essentially non-practicing since my kids grew up...
That's pretty much everyone with Guitar Hero now. Nothing special, just a group of friends that were opening acts for real bands. My band opened for Suicidal Tendencies at the Mubuhay Gardens is S.F. for example; we were first of four opening acts though and played to about 25 people which were mostly (or entirely) friends and family (we played really early... more people showed as better bands came on). I started college as a double major: Computer Science and Music (with a minor in Math and Soccer Coaching). I learned quickly I was better at computers and dropped music in my second year :\ For those of you who might be Guitar Hero fans (and/or like heavy guitar), shout out to my friend and fellow music student in college Steve Ouimette, who started a studio and ended up doing several cover songs for the Guitar Hero franchise (as well as many other games, movies and TV). His most famous songs from GH are: Devil Went Down To Georgia: Dueling Banjos:
Waiting to show it to my kids. 10, 13, and 14. 10 year old is holding us back but it's getting close . . .
Opening for ST is pretty amazing, who doesn't remember "Institutionalized" lol. I enjoy a little metal myself, even have Rammstein tickets for Sept at the LA Coliseum, not yet canceled but somehow seems unlikely. As for Charlie Daniels, I saw him play that live many years ago when I lived in the south, incredible.
That's awesome! Me too with my son (almost 10). I just played the Holy Grail for him and he LOVED it (he was a little young for it but it worked out ok)... that was a week ago and he's been asking every day to watch it again.
I was into mostly melodic metal like Iron Maiden, though I loved Metallica and Megadeth. Van Halen was my favorite band though and Eddie was my idol. In fact our opening song was Ain't Talkin' Bout Love and we played Pretty Woman too. My favorite guitarist now is Nuno Bettencourt, though there isn't enough new stuff coming out anymore Not sure how those events will happen. We have July plans (paid for) to Cabo and I'm guess that out too. Here's to hoping.
