Why do you think we should have a fixed Second and especially a fixed third kit? Most national teams have a fixed first/home kit, and the second kit often varies with many different colors. This is true of even the biggest national sides. As for third kit, it always widely varies, that's the whole point of it. Club and national teams don't have a fixed 3rd kit, they exist to come out with fun, unusual designs in new colors with a big purpose to sell extra kits to fans. My take: Come up with a non all-white primary. I'd choose the Waldo, but I'd be Ok with the Gold Cup red/blue hoops which I also liked a lot. I'd prefer horizontal hoops v vertical stripes. But I think we're stuck with white. Second kit: Either a mostly red or mostly blue design, a lot of latitude allowed. 3rd kit: let Nike go crazy
I literally wrote at least three options for a third kit. Not sure how providing multiple options means I want a fixed kit. As for the secondary, I said I wanted to have a general idea. The US can then do several things around that general idea.
ok, if I misunderstood your post then I apologize. When you wrote "Secondary - Blue/white/blue" I took it to mean we always have a blue shirt, white shorts, and blue socks.. My preference for the 2nd kit is we can have red shirts, blue shirts, striped or hooped shirts, and any color combos of shorts and socks, but keep the colors red, white and blue. My point is that even the football superpower countries often have totally different colored 2nd kits from year to year, only the primary/home stays the same basic color/design. Rereading your post, I agree with you on the 3rd kit then, sorry I misunderstood that part. I guess I was thinking you were proposing choose one and stick with it but now see you didn't mean that.
No worries. With my secondary, that blue/white/blue is my first preference, but for me the big thing is just to have a solid, professional look. I thought we were actually on the right track with the 2017-2018 kits, but obviously US Soccer and Nike didn't agree with me I'd prefer to have some accents/stripes with the primary if it's white. For the secondary, I want a look of "we're all business on the road and we're taking care of things". Keep it professional and just a bit understated For the third, there are a lot of cool options. The Waldo is the obvious choice, and a 1994 denim throwback should happen at some point. Hell, I wouldn't mind a third kit with green, gold, and black based on the old Gasden flag. That would be pretty badass (Please note that I DO NOT want this to be any sort of political statement. I'm a student of history, and I also know that the Gasden flag has been a part of some old supporters' cultures).
ok, now I can see we are pretty much in full agreement. Sorry about my earlier misunderstanding. As much I'd love the Waldo as our primary, I accept it's a huge longshot and we're probably stuck with a primarily white shirt. I agree with you in that if we're going to do white, spice it up with something interesting but as you said, "keep it professional". I am more or less OK with the new one, but it's too plain for me. I'm ok with having a bolder second kit with some cool designs and color mixes. The 2017 Gold Cup (loved it) and the 2014 Bomb Pop come to mind (i know I'm in the minority on the 2014 aways). I'm ok with being less "professional" with the away kit but the new blue shirt is awful in my opinion, and looks worse every time I see it. Completely onboard with your 3rd kit comments. I used to hate the denims but now recognize it as a landmark iconic shirt. Maybe "the" iconic shirt for the USMNT historically. I would also love at some point for it to come back with some modern tweeks as a 3rd kit, but now is not the time. Maybe when our team once again has the grit and fortitude of those 1990s sides. It is unfortunate the Gadsden flag has a current political tie as you mention, that concept would make for an awesome 3rd kit. It's ideas like that we need for 3rd kits. Not just a random blob on a shirt but have some meaning behind it as well as a beautiful design. The new 2nd kit fails miserably at both.
forgive the quality, this is just using ms paint. i feel like you have to try pretty hard to make crappy us kits- it really shouldnt be so complicated.
the Gadsden flag has current political ties but rainbow numbers don't? 1st kit - The centennial kit, or a very minor variation. That jersey was perfection. 2nd kit - Primarily Red or Blue, otherwise do what you want. 3rd kit - Have fun with it.
https://www.footyheadlines.com/2020/04/nike-usa-2020-kit-font.html this is surprising- they (us soccer) made a really big deal about designing a font specifically for branding four, maybe six(?) years ago, that would be used on everything: kits, apparel, press releases, infographics, etc.
Those are terrible, but a step in the right direction from the recent achingly boring efforts. Do the designers not realize the flag is red and white stripes? This would look pretty good with the blue to white and blue trim...plus...we should always have stars somewhere, no?
I actually wouldn't mind this as a third kit idea. I know I'm in the minority with Manchester United's "zebra" third kit, but I think it looks sharp with black shorts. This shirt has some of those same ideas. It would also look good as a pre-match shirt. But if it's the main change kit, no thanks. That would be like throwing stuff against a wall to see if it works.
USSF usually releases an away kit every year (with a home kit every two years) so I'm guessing it's that. I'd anticipate the men would be getting one too. I like them better than the current "water stains" they have now as an away.
Pretty hard to not do better than the current secondary/away kit. The blotch on the front makes absolutely no sense. Had they just gone with the lighter color as the only color on the torso and left the darker color on the sleeves, that would have been a lot better. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to soccer kits except for third kits, but I think a design at least loosely inspired by Bayern Munich's third/UCL kit (yes, I know it's an Adidas kit) would have been a nice idea. I just think the design in the tweet is a little too busy.
Remember World War 2 ships? I see what they trying to do here. So the defenders will have a hard time where to target the U.S. players.
World War 1, mostly. Minor correction. By WW2, there were better rangefinders and radar, so it fell out of fashion/didn’t work as well anymore. We should just be like Boise State. All blue unis on a blue field...
Since the pitches are usually green, shouldn't be hard to pick a good camo version of it. Or have kits for different climates.
