It's like the modern jerseys. Put a shirt underneath and you're fine. And as said many times, the black socks were out of place on the gray kits. Speaking of good/bad jerseys, we should all be lucky the "tire track" jerseys never saw the light of day. They may have been worse than the McDonald's jerseys. (I still contend the shirts by themselves with one or two minor changes could have made an excellent third jersey. The shorts were atrociously horrendous.) Supposedly there was an alternate "For Columbus" kit which was overruled by his wife in favor of the one we know.
Way too tight. It was also one of the smallest fits of any shirt I've seen. I should have gone with an XXL, but had no idea before I customized it.
The new soccer fit. Used to be the shorts were, well, short and tight and the shirts not so much. Now it's the other way around.
Duncan gave me one of his from 2003 unworn straight out of the locker room. Size large. It's a nightmare to fit into. A couple weeks ago, I obtained a L size hoody I can fit into. I have a couple other hoodies size XL which are tight. I have a medium game-issue Crew jersey I can barely fit into. Trying to figure sizes out? I quit. I have a feeling I should have gone up in size when I bought the new black jersey. The game-issue jerseys from the last few years are tight in the arms.
I don't remember him ever doing so. He wasn't going to replace McBride or Jeff. Or Stern. Neither Buddle or Dante would cede the forward position for him. He was Ethan Finley before Ethan Finley became a name in our Crew all-time roster.
Story on the P40 team--which a couple of ex-Crew played for. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/04/02/mls-project-40
As I recall it, this is correct. He was a forward who was drafted by a team that had guys like Mc Bride, Stern John, Jeff Cunningham and Dante Washington. He was too good and too fast to just sit so Fitz moved him to right wing where he was a starter. I believe that when he went to Sweden (IIRC) he was used as a striker.
https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=a...yNTRhNDAtOThhYy00YTlkLWFlYzItODIwMWQ2N2FlMjA4 Was listening to this fairly candid interview with Will Trapp. Eric Gehrig is one of the hosts. In a rapid-fire, one word answer series of questions.... they ask him... FC Cincinatti? "nightmare" Anthony Precourt? "jabroni" I loved that. It was good to hear some details on things from him. He was all in on getting out of Columbus. Not out of any dislike for the team or city but just for needing the change after being with the Crew for over 7 years. Said the only big opportunity he really had to go overseas was the Blackburn offer, summer of 2018, which we knew about. He said Gregg pretty much gave him the green light, if he wanted it, he could go....but Wil didnt feel like the timing was good with the Austin move fiasco and didnt want to abandon the team. A detail I also didn't know was that when he was drafted he also had the opportunity to sign with Randers in Denmark but he said the money was actually better with the Crew (plus hometown) so it wasnt a hard choice. That was the most real talk I've ever heard from him.
Have listened through most of the podcast and it sounds like Wil was not happy with something or someone in Columbus. He said it was awkward going into the final day of the transfer window and still being with the squad. He is clearly smitten with Miami's aspirations and potential of getting a true superstar. He has gone through the worst possible time of being a Crew player with the jabroni running things and clearly cutting costs left and right. I think it has been indicated the new ownership is still trying to get their feet under them and his player experience is likely to be seen as below average across the league for his tenure. Once the new stadium and training grounds get going and the new ownership has more time to get on solid footing, I would hope that story changes. He makes a really great comment about how much Zardes and his family love it in Columbus. Someday he might be back, or he might love Miami and never look back.
I have a Marshall one of those. But that's a really nice jersey. You'll have to let us know if the CL patch was glued on (that's how my Marshall shirt was).
Will do! The seller has great ratings on eBay and has a ton of great old MLS stuff for sale, including another Schelotto (2010 black long sleeve).
Great find. Kudos. On a related topic - not that it matters all that much around here - does anyone know if they're going to be offering the Childrens Hospital version for sale? Seems to this humble observer that they've certainly had plenty of time to arrange it if that was their plan. Particularly since as we all know they really don't have much else to do at the moment. But the various sale sites are still just showing the plain front, five or six weeks after it was introduced. Do you suppose they dont plan on offering it at all, ever? (If so, then that would surely make those among the most desirable collectors shirts right along with the gray third kit from 2005 (IIRC) and the legendary long sleeve bumblebee.
I know they said they had them in the Team Shop and would be adding it to blank ones if you already bought it! I’m sure that’s all they have control over, per say. I don’t think they have much control over the stock that Fanatics sells.
When I bought my 2020 black kit from the team shop, that was exactly the case. Strange enough, I had to pay extra for the MLS patches. I don't intend on adding the front logo.
What was the case? That you bought it with the logo or you bought it and they said they'd put it on if you like? And no, I wouldn't pay extra for the MLS logo either. Either way, since the team shop is closed, if someone wanted to buy one today it does not appear that the Childrens Hospital logo is available since neither the MLS site nor the Crew site shows it.
I just didn't think I'd have to pay extra for stuff that is supposed to be on there. It was only like $5/patch, so it wasn't a huge deal. At least now it looks more official than if it just was a black shirt with a Crew and adidas logo on it.
Thanks for sharing that. It was pretty bold of Wil to call Preshart a jabroni, not that he was wrong about it. Speaking of jabronis, I am picturing Dong Arbor hearing about Wil's one word comment, and trying to figure out how to address it. Ha !
Not a player, but someone many of us have been curious about: Excited to share I’m joining the @EsportsEng team as Head of Strategic Partnerships. She spent the first couple months of the year working for SheBelieves Cup, but of course that was a short term deal.
I noticed that the Crew were featured on MLS's "Mt Rushmore" recently--the four they chose were GBS, Chad, McBride, and Frankie. Reasonable. Wish they'd mentioned Clark, though.
