MLS.com had that horrible match against San Jose back in the day when we went to Spartan up on goals by Victorine and Ruiz only to add two more and then have an epic meltdown which I can still feel today. Boy I hated Sigi and the team that day to no restrain. I was devastated on that comeback. From 4-0 dead-and-in-your-hands victory to a soul-sucking 5-4 defeat that to this day still haunts me!

In the past I may have shared with you my family's motto: If a thing is worth doing, its worth overdoing. Applying this to self isolation, I figure if 10 feet social distance is good, 2.5 miles would be even better. And don't get me started on "Don't touch your face."

I really miss soccer. Any guesses/thoughts on if and how long this season will eventually be? I'm betting on a 16 game season, regional rivalries only, MLS cup in December.
Maybe, if we are lucky and cut the playoffs down to no more than 4 teams per conference. At one game per week, that's a still a 20 week schedule.
I will stay with the Portugal v USA 3-2 match. That thing had me hopping and running around the house waking up everybody and surrounding neighbors at what was that, 4 or 5 AM. Once McBride put in that third goal and we went up 3-0 I was fit to be tied. Portugal you will recall was a dark horse to win the whole enchilada if not a straight favorite. Much better than the USA v Mexico match and I think the greatest match I have ever seen from the Nats. Go watch that one.
That was a fun match to watch. I'd take the 2002 WC team over any other team. 2006 was so disappointing though Best I can find. Don't know where they got such high def recording. It's nice!
Yep, very dynamic team. They didn't know they weren't supposed to do this to a team like Portugal with Rui Costa and Luis Figo. I woke up early, brewed some coffee and prepared to be a silent witness to the inevitable loss. All I hoped for when I lit my votive candles was for NO ROUT. No 5-0 or crap like that. Just a respectful loss that I could hold my head up high and point to a minimum diff loss that showed we had arrived at this level even if it was through the side door. Never expected that team to drag me through the front door shooting and screaming bloody murder like that.
I remember that well. I had a pregnant wife asleep with our toddler in the bedroom so I was hopping up and down running around the house - but all without making any noise!
That was indeed a fun watch. That was back when the US fielded flat out winners like Donovan and McBride. They never were overwhelmed by the stage - they just focused on the job at hand and won their battles more often than not. Eddie Lewis was so smooth and Sanneh just dominated his position. Then there was Agoos - well, bless his heart, it was in the right place. It was funny watching Donovan look more embarrassed than happy after his acci-goal. That tells you a lot about his character - he was all about fairness and playing the right way. In any case Agoos balanced things out by gifting them an own-goal with his botched clearance. What a great game and a great WC!
They were winners. And everyone seemed to really try to squeak out every ounce of talent they had and then some. Not saying today's players don't try, but the players of yesteryear didn't seem to take anything for granted and seems to have given just a little bit more. Back then I couldn't imagine missing a game. Kind of sad that nowadways it's more like, "Oh, there was a game today??? How about that...".
I was lucky enough to attend the group matches for the 2002 World Cup. The USA fans around me were ready for a loss to Portugal, hopeful for a tie against South Korea, and betting on a win against Poland. That game against Portugal...I remember the stunned feeling myself and others had when the US took the 3-0 lead and the white knuckle ride for the rest of the game. And then there was the delirious elation when the game was done. Cobi Jones fist pumped and joined the fans in a "USA" chant. I remember no one in my section wanting to leave. ESPN had no personnel there, but Univision did. One of their reporters started interviewing a fan, and everyone around them got an "Estados Unidos" chant going... Definitely my favorite USMNT match I ever attended.
I feel like they should be playing. Watching soccer is an essential service for my health. The Galaxy defense already practices social distancing. But I guess MLS is concerned about all the high risk group aged DPs.
