Can't rep this post enough, some fantastic clips in there! I literally had to LOL in one of the Chicago games, at the end when the Revs were beating their sorry asses, and the announcer says "... and now the Fire are starting to get chippy here..." Starting to?

It's out on Twitter now. Thanks @Revs In First :) .

Really appreciate this list. I'm actually kinda hoping to make a Revs video at some point (if you don't know me, I really like editing). At the moment, I'm too busy with school, and all the online content and zoom conferences is doing a number on my post concussive symptoms. Ugh . I started following the Revs around '06, so I really like seeing stuff from the early years before then. People talk about Joe-Max Moore and Walter Zenga and I'm jealous at not having got a chance to see them play.

Really hope the Revs do more nostalgia games, whether it's streaming them or highlights or something.

I'm glad the videos have been a welcome distraction for our small but (should-be-)committed community here. I found another version of highlights from the 2005 second leg with New York on Dailymotion. The video quality sucks, but it is a longer, more complete highlight set. I still have that game in my top list of attended Revs games, right up there with MLS Cup 02 (amazing event, result aside), Superliga final 08 and ECF 2014 leg 1. I can't watch these highlights enough.

I watched the 2014 playoff game with Red Bulls yesterday. With about 10 minutes to go the Revs subbed on Kevin Alston. I had forgotten about Kevin and his illness. So I looked him up and according to Wikipedia he has recovered from his illness and is playing in the USL. Good for him, a little bright spot on the day.

Glad to hear Kevin is healthy and doing well! I noticed him too in some of the highlight clips. I always thought he looked like the kid in the comic The Boondocks.

There was a version of the highlights of the EC Final vs Chicago in 2005 that was done by the people from NFL Films, with the dramatic background music and the deep-voiced narrator. It was an absolute classic. Anyone else remember that?

Zenga was a two-fer -- kinda like dinner and a show! Not only did you get to see him at 90% of his world class keeper best, you you also got antics galore. Who else would make a great save and three seconds after punting the ball away run to the stands to kiss his girlfriend, Hoara. He also pulled world-class nutty's when he was a coach, with fans, the other team's coaching staffs, the ref's, the opposing players, you name it.

And Joe-Max once putting on goalie gloves and pinnie to play in goal after Jeff Causey was red-carded (also Zenga's last game as Rev's goalkeeper). If only Clint Dempsey had that kind of courage when a Rev.

More fun playing with Fire - top 5 matches v. Chicago posted on the Revs site last year, includes the two East finals matches as well as a couple other classic tilts.

I heard from someone who works at the stadium that they are planning to play the first few games without fans when they start up again.

There's a midfield fans joke in here, but it doesn't seem the time for the commonly used term for this group.

The craziest Zenga story was the time when the players used to go to "autograph alley" in the old stadium and fans would wait around to get autographs. He was signing for a bunch of people and this Italian guy comes up and starts saying things in Italian, The only thing I understood was something about the Revs being a "Serie C" team.

Zenga looked at him with a piercing stare, the guy took off and started running, Zenga jumped over the railing and chased him down in the parking lot. Lots of yelling in Italian ensued. Later, I saw him sitting with Brian O'Donovan in a golf cart looking kinda forlorn.

This was toward the end of the 99 season, and Zenga was let go not too long after that. Some guy named Steve Nicol took over as a caretaker for the last 2 games of the season. Whatever happened to that guy?

They replaced him with Fernando Clavijo, and he was never heard from again....

You know, stories like that happened and I think it made him look like a crazy man. But, I think understanding the context of his background in Italian football, I don't think it's that hard to understand or that 'crazed'.

In fact, I think that has happened with a number of the Revs 'foreign' player - they have experienced a different football culture (and different culture overall), yet we judge them by what is acceptable and understandable here and now.

If that incident happened in Italy - it would probably get the same reaction from most pros.

Sure, I understand that, and it's kinda like the time Jose Cancela's mind was completely blown with the idea of a school bus picking up and dropping off kids every day.

But the same thing can be said about anyone going into a different culture, where your "normal" doesn't mesh with the society as a whole. I remember stories of US servicemen walking past Middle Eastern women and smiling and saying "Good morning, ma'am," which would be a friendly goodwill gesture in our society, but in the context of their culture, wholly inappropriate and to some, even offensive.

If a US-born athlete did what Zenga did, there would be all kinds of hell to pay. As it is, Zenga was let go because the team wasn't very good and missed the playoffs, but that incident didn't help.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing soccer at all until next spring. Indoor sports maybe in January, but there is no way you can justify having large crowds packed together. I hope this doesn't have a lasting effect on sports, but for a while, this is the way it will be.

I think you are probably right, unless they plan to play to empty stands. I did think of what a "great stadium" Gillette is for post-Covid19, as most fans have already practiced social distancing, outside the Fort. Two people, three empty seats, family of four, three empty seats, and so on.

I think the lasting effect is more likely positive than negative, on the "Separation makes the heart grow fonder." logic, but I'm enough of a sports fan that I'm probably not a great evaluator of this.

Reminds me of the first 5 or 10 years of the Revs history back in the cement bowl, when my kids were bundles of energy who had minimal interest in the game. We'd move to an open section (which was way too easy) and let them run around, climbing up and down the aluminum benches where they wouldn't bother anyone, while we could [mostly] watch the game.

Oh man, brings my mind back to no seat backs and space on the bench for about 2/3 of my (rather prodigious) butt. Ah the good old days.

I read on bbc.com that the Bundesliga may start up May 9th. You need about 300 people to run a closed door game. Get all involved tested and run the event. This needs to happen. None of these talking head doctors on tv are mentioning the mental health ramifications of this lockdown.
