I'm a peaceful person, but I will not be held responsible for my actions if someone tries to revive prohibition.
In this quiet period, I have missed soccer very much. So, broke out the FIFA and played rapids vs fsl. We won 16-1, so hoping that is a sign of good things this year! Rid
Garber was just on ESPN. Didn't have much clarity yet (as expected), but did say there would be a 3-4 week "pre-season" when they do come back. Everything else was what we have heard (trying to get games in, etc) On the Olympics, he pointed to the USMNT qualifications not being done as part of the problem with having it this year. Just not enough time remains.
I think that time frame sounds like a minimum amount of time needed to get teams ready to play - and I wonder if the second preseason will take longer if teams can't assemble as full groups until sometime in June or July (which seams likely at this point)? Right now players are having to keep themselves fit as if it were January, not March, so fitness is going to be an issue. Regardless of when (or if) the MLS schedule resumes, perhaps there are some ways to work around fitness issue. • For the first 4 matches of the restarted season allow teams to make up to 5 substitutions per match. As is the case currently, once a player is substituted for he can't return to the match. This would lower the risk of injury and allow players to work themselves into be more fit. • After the first 4 matches lower the number of subs from 5 to 4 for 2 games. Also, I'm hoping that the Rapids will have some open practices and a home friendly or two to get us all warmed up and back in the game.

These videos have filled the soccer void for me recently. MLS Bloopers: Bundesliga Bloopers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYfrf1qiWYY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCOXYPthk84
Since we don't have any actual soccer to talk about, I'm happy to report that the Rapids completed preseason undefeated in my Football Manager season (I broke down and got it this week).
The 2019/20 Bundesliga bloopers and misses video that pdid linked has a call I've never seen -- a penalty for a sub warming up touching the ball in play (4:21):
In French, an interview with Benezet on how he's handling the quarantine https://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/f...cains-ont-pris-la-situation-la-legere-6796445
So, MLS official site is replaying old games, old classics. But they never show the Rapids. I want to watch the play-off run and MLS Cup final of 2010. Any ideas?
Do you know anyone with a DeLorean you might be able to borrow ... and if you get that to work I would like to have you move some investments around for me back in February. More to the point in another thread I said we must be 'New Coke' because we apparently aren't Classic.
#Rapids96 GM Padraig Smith appeared on the new Altitude Sports Social show on Wednesday to talk about the state of the club and what a condensed #MLS season might look like https://t.co/cmueZI34vq pic.twitter.com/21QZEYA3XU— Burgundy Wave (@Burgundywave) April 2, 2020 . Can’t imagine how MLS could fit in almost a whole season of matches from July to the beginning of October. That’s a lot of mid-week games and a lot of player rotation.
I am assuming that the beginning of July is the absolutely earliest MLS could be back in session with regular season games. There would need to be at least 3 weeks of training prior to that plus at least one friendly. Of course a lot has to happen between now and June for players to be able to work as a full group. If this is how MLS handles the post "shelter in place" schedule I go back to my previous statement on allowing for up to 5 substitutes a match. This would make a difference with both fitness and injury issues.

Although I think July is much more realistic, the absolute earliest they could start up is June. If everyone is allowed back in early May (maybe some sort of limited interaction outside the team scenario), then training and a friendly or scrimmage could lead to games before July. Not saying it is likely, or prudent, but that would be the current "absolutely earliest". Rod
I missed it but looks like a rebroadcast at 2:00 a.m. CDST. Seems like its been a long time since I set a soccer match to record. High School season has also been canceled but at least they rolled our registration $ over to next spring. Had they not they most likely would have lost referees they could ill afford to go without. Wonder if when MLS does come back it will be poorly attended or if pent-up demand will fill stadiums? I could see people really turning out like elementary school kids for recess.
