There doesn’t seem to be a deadline though. If it took Beckham 7 years to go to Ft. Lauderdale, a venue that could have been used in 2015 or even sooner, there is no telling when Miami will get their stadium built. Granted I don’t live there so I can’t really judge but looking at the history of failed attempts, it could be years before they get their park. I hope they do but in the meantime, Go Strikers!
yeah, Miami politics are very complicated and have always been. Fortunately for us local Miamians, Beckham and co. are determined to get this done so I think it will eventually be done although there is definitely no telling how long it will take. his original idea of putting a stadium by the port would have been magnificent but I had a hunch it was a bit too good to be true.
= While I am sure around the world there are seating designs like this, but what would be the closest to this in North America? Nice job of team colors- would have been cool if the logo had been worked into the seats, but its a pretty complicated logo with fine details, so may have been hard to replicate.
Before the coronavirus or last month for that matter, I was thinking the new stadium in Miami would take at least 4-5 years. Now I question exactly when or even it will ever be built. As a matter of fact, I believe this thing could hurt future expansion as well as new potential stadiums.
I hear you, pal, but at this point I'm more concerned with covering than with seeing MLS grow. Call us weird.
So the latest news I can find is June 17. Team submits zoning application to work parallel to lease negotiations. https://miamifreedompark.com/plans-for-miami-freedom-park-advance/ Is there any newer updates to this project being a reality?
Its great seeing Ft. Lauderdale seeing a tradition of stars 41 years later and in a new stadium! Who would have thought this was possible in 1985?
Wow. Nene, Der Bomber and the Belfast Boy make for a pretty high water mark. (No King Tide crack intended.)

Inter Miami CF Negotiations For New Stadium Complete; City Of Miami Commission To Vote On Deal – CBS Miami (cbslocal.com)
---------- Crossing my fingers on this. Still can't believe how large of a stadium they build in FTL. Seems too large for their reserve team. Do any high schools or colleges play soccer or pointy ball there? Did Inter get the issue with the city of FTL about the park they were suppose to build?
Mas interview ahead of Thursday's commission vote -- https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local...stadium-deal-in-one-on-one-interview/2745152/ Link is copied from Staurt95's excellent daily digest over in MLS N&A
Well even if it passes the vote and get approval, they continue playing in Ft Lauderdale until the new stadium is built. And I imagine that if it's voted down they will continue to seek other Miami sites where they can build, rather than just default to staying put in Ft Lauderdale. I guess at some point they could just resort to staying put in Ft Lauderdale. But they've been working on a viable site and stadium plan for a long time, this time it seems they're farther along than any of the previous efforts. In my view, all the revenue from the development outside the stadium itself is the real reason you'd keep looking to get this done sooner or later. But if the commissioners can't approve this site and they've already rejected the previous sites in Bayside and Overtown I wouldn't blame anyone for saying the hell with it and stop looking to build in Miami.
I don't live in the area so excuse my ignorance but what was the situation with the Little Havana stadium? I recall the residents wanted too much money but how much could it have been?
To clarify, I want t make sure I'm talking about the right previous attempt. I have some familiarity with 3 previous stadium efforts but I'm not an expert in any of them . . . There was talk of putting a soccer stadium in Little Havana, right alongside the baseball stadium / Marlins Park which opened around 2011 / 2012. But the deal that funded the baseball stadium became really unpopular, politically and with citizens, after it was discovered that it was basically all taxpayer money and no responsibility on the Marlins ownership at that time. So the baseball stadium became a very sore subject and there were protests right away along the lines of "not again!" and the whole idea of building in Little Havana just quietly went away as far as I remember. There as an idea to put the stadium in the Bayfront neighborhood of downtown right alongside the American Airlines Arena where the Heat plays. But that would have required a ton of site work to extend the land into Biscayne Bay by dumping a ton of fill into the water, then building on top of it. Yes it sounds strange but it's been done on a smaller scale for other infrastructure builds in Miami . . . but this raised all kinds of criticism for its environmental impact and the likely costs and I'm not even sure that one went all the way to a commission vote. Then there was a site in Overtown, which is a traditionally poor neighborhood right outside of downtown but situated alongside another area called Wynwood which was a ghost town 10 years ago and is now Miami's coolest area. I thought this was the location that was going to work because it's right outside of downtown and you could easily add a rail line stop just for the stadium and Wynwood nearby had bars / restaurants to benefit from the crowds, etc. Residents immediately bitched about parking and I think the club either really didnt prepare for the parking garages to be that big an issue, or maybe they tried all they could and were unable to get nearby land for garages . . . but the parking issue here became a big deal and this turned into kind of a progressive vs conservative question about public transit here and that it would never work no matter who pledged what to make it work etc. And there was an owner of some industrial property within the development zone who sued against the favorable leasing terms the club wanted for this development, and the lawsuit if I remember scared a couple commissioners and this one died. I think all 3 of those attempts transpired before the Mas brothers joined the ownership group. If anyone has better familiarity than I do and can jump on to correct any mistakes I made that would be welcome. But the entire Inter board only manages about 10 posts a year so we might be out of luck for that!
The City of Miami Commission has voted to approve Inter Miami CF's Miami Freedom Park development plan. Congratulations, folks! https://www.local10.com/news/local/...stadium-dream-faces-public-lands-gatekeepers/
