That was wishful thinking mate and underestimating the extent and rapid progression of the virus. I never allied or supported el douche on his point, I was raising the concern that ordinary Americans and small businesses would be hurt by a never ending economic shutdown. Partially my concerns have been addressed by this 2T dollar stimulus package. So now we should be fighting like hell to contain this virus. But I hear you, and we will most likely disagree again on something else that's just the name of the game right lol
Do you not agree with having a stimulus at this time, or do you not agree with some of the specifics?
I agree with much of it.... I don’t agree with giving BOEING a bailout when their CEO said he would utilize “other options” if the bailout included a government stake in the company... Don’t you think they should have exhausted all “other options” before begging for a handout?
Yeah, I’m not sure about Boeing, their problems go way beyond this crisis. On the other hand, they do employ lots of people directly and many more indirectly. Still, not agreeing about one instance is a far cry from equating this bill to the tax cuts.
Yes. But that is governing. You have to settle for some things you don’t like to get the things you do.
Yeah, how dare the government help job providers during a time of pandemic induced-economic meltdown? The horror!
Track records don’t exactly show that the employees benefit that well.... I’m glad you trust these corporations. I’d rather have seen some short term UBI
Trust them to do what? To try to stay in business if possible? I’d say yes in most cases. Do you not agree that these businesses do provide employment to lots of people, both directly and indirectly, and that if a large number of them go under during a time of crisis -like the one we are going through right now- it will spell disaster for a large amount of workers? I’m all for all individuals who are not rich getting some money at this time, but I think most people would say that being able to still have their job when this is over is even more important than getting twelve hundred bucks right now. That’s why it is very important that a stimulus bill, in addition to protecting those who lose their jobs, also protects those who provide them, to minimize the number of those who lose them.
I’d have rather seen two separate bills separating social programs from corporate ones. In its current form in binary politics, you either “hate Americans” or “hate capitalism”
You wouldn't be able to have two bills. Neither would pass the House and the Senate as a separate bill. This bill was an example of something that was accomplished by compromise. It's not going to be the answer to the current crisis, not even close, but it will provide some form of relief to everybody. Compromise is good. And, it's something that our nation - and our congress - has been lacking in recent times.
He’s been in display for the nation to see...read the entire article “But, as Lis Smith, the Democratic strategist who rumbled in New York politics before becoming Mayor Pete’s Pygmalion, said, “Trump is selfishly ruthless for his own personal gain while Cuomo is more benevolently ruthless.” She continued: “It also helps that Cuomo knows intimately how to bend the different levers of government to his will. It’s where you see having been at HUD, having been an attorney general of New York, having been a governor for 10 years — all that pays off. Ruthlessness is good, if it’s for a good purpose. F.D.R. was ruthless.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/27/opinion/sunday/cuomo-new-york-coronavirus.html
I hope Biden didn't commit rape, but if accusations make him not be the nominee, I want nominee and President Klobuchar. I don't want Sanders or Warren. Harris and Buttigieg are okay, but I'd prefer Klobuchar.
Spitballing, but if this accusation holds up (unlikely) I could see the Dems nominating Cuomo. No way Bernie, and I don't think the other candidates did enough to get the bid. I think the Dems might roll the dice on today's hero and roll with "compassion in a crisis" vs. "abetted the crisis." Yeah very much spitballing.
Agreed. The only way to go would be someone who was not in the campaign. It’s too hard to justify picking someone who did not do enough to win the nomination. To pick Klobuchar, Warren, Buttigieg or any of the other 25 would make little sense if you then jump Bernie. Cuomo is the nom du jour, but there are other talented Democrats who are not in the Congress and who were not candidates. (Although Congress might be okay, just not my first choice).
An advantage with Cuomo is that the opposition would have to start from scratch on demonizing him. Although to be fair, that would be true of Pete, Amy, etc. But as you say, how to pick one of them? Best to go outside the process and start afresh, should in the unlikely event that become the case.
This Biden ad packs a wallop. Donald Trump’s ego will cost lives. pic.twitter.com/JNcGny13KO— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) March 28, 2020 With Biden as the nominee, PA is in the bag. With ads like this, Michigan is in the bag. Biden just has to flip Wiscy, NC, or Georgia. Georgia may seem like the longest shot, but they have a corona hotspot.
Biden is tied with Trump in Arizona and Florida, no reason not to consider those possibilities too. If Bernie were the nominee Florida would be off the table, but Biden should make that plenty competitive, and perhaps even win it. At the very least make Trump play a whole lot of defense. Ohio ... eh, not so much. Those guys get redder by the day.
