    General Patton?

Does anyone have a quote from General Patton that says something along the lines of "I take no responsibility at all for it"

Typical dotard. He said he might quarantine NY, Connecticut, and parts of New Jersey today, and that he had talked to their governors about it. He had not.

I know that he can't help lying but why would somebody support that? I mean, everyday workers get fired for repeatedly claiming they did something that they didn't. Yet this guy gets cut every break for having a critically important job and failing what is expected of a KFC line worker. And it's not as if he could get away with it. They asked Cuomo about the conversation and he was like, "Wut?"

I will never understand how anybody could go for that level of stupidity. Ever.

This is why the media should simply stop playing the game.

To use a historical example, Hitler would frequently announce to von Manstein that the situation on the ukranian front would be resolved within weeks by various forms of magical thinking. Of course Manstein knew better, and within days facts on the ground made the previous announcements irrelevant.

The problem for von Manstein is that he was forced to obey the orders of OKH at least in the main.

In this situation, governors, independent media etc don't have to follow Trump's stupid lies.

So much time was wasted arguing about reopening at Easter when anyone can see that the situation at easter will be desperate. By that time, Trump will make other even stupider claims.

I mean all of this is no different than when trump claimed the number of infections would be zero. He has no strategy.

All true. The only counter I have is that nobody with any power and brains pays any attention to him. They all knew long ago he's useless,. They work around him, as much as they can, and then play his game if they are forced to deal with him. As you would with a petulant child who holds a knife.

Agreed - the real issue is the bad info he spreads to the public.

But we know what is going to happen - just like the claim there would soon be zero cases

In 2 weeks it will be a grim situation, and he will announce yet more magical thinking

it's a typo, that should read, "Nermal". If there is one American who knows how to stay home it's Jim Davis. The man made a career writing jokes for his house cats.

In 2 weeks, he will blame the democratic states for infecting the Republican states with the China virus.

Said it before, will say it again. The Democratic Presidential candidate 2020 campaign must be 1) expanding health care for all, 2) people you know died because of Trump. The latter being put somewhat more diplomatically than that, of course. Nothing else matters. Americans couldn't be bothered about foreign affairs, or tax policies, or the deficit, or even immigrant bashing. They just want to stay alive.

    That wins.

Trying to imagine the reaction if, during a national emergency, President Obama said that Republican governors needed to show some appreciation for the job he did for them before agreeing to talk to them.

Or President Hillary Clinton. All I can say is, I hope that Trump is treated even a fraction as badly as they would be treated, which by the way they would fully deserve. I might vote for Pence over a Democratic President who did that. I absolutely would vote for Romney or the now-dead McCain.

Even before this, “they need to show some appreciation” press conference, he spends 90% of his time talking about what a great job he is doing and how everyone is telling him what a great job he is doing. When did this become normal? We don’t even blink anymore. If Cuomo or Newsome or Pritzker stood there at their daily briefings and drones on about what a great job they were doing, we would all say, “what the hell are you talking about? Are you nuts?” But for some reason, we are numb to the President doing this, and in fact, he can even get a temporary bump in his approval numbers by telling us what a great job he is doing.

Those numbers are declining. But yeah. This guy hasn't visited a hospital, hasn't talked with the bereaved, doesn't talk about the victims in his press conference. Any governor would be voted out acting like that. Even Republicans, as in Kentucky and Louisiana. But such is the power of a personality cult.

About 8000 per year in the U.S. If we keep up today's COVID-19 pace we will hit 200,000 over the next 12 months for that affliction.
