It will be crippling. Imagine all the small businesses, which are the heartbeat of any economy, like restaurants, dentists, etc. closed down for weeks (if not months) with no revenue, unable to meet their loan repayments/mortgage payments.

In my state there's an up to 30.000 Euro payment package a business can apply for which is apparently tax free and not a loan. The most bizarre thing about this time is that several politicians i considered incompetent have shown to be up to take on responsibility while others that talked a lot and had all the solutions to the world have completely disappeared.

Still, i think a lot of business models will change. I don't think we'll return to our old habbits any time soon.

One thing is for sure, there needs to be strict protocol measures at the borders once this is under control or this virus will never stop spreading.

I see people in movies hugging or giving the high five and I cringe now. Talk about weird times

Better yet, the kiss on both cheeks that is widely accepted and an everyday ritual amongst folks in many countries.

This is the worst pierce of crap I have read since 2003. The following is cut and paste of a post I wrote here a week ago. I edited a part of it.

In the West, the press or people who knew something about the virus have been telling people that the mask does not protect you from the virus. People wearing the masks in Asia is not wearing them to protect themselves. I already know that in 2003 during the SARS. Most of us knew that the masks won't protect you(actually, a lot of people still think it protects you). It is to stop the virus from spreading around. The carriers do not know that they are carrying the virus. If everyone in the street is wearing a mask, the chance of a carrier wearing one is very high. If the carrier is wearing one, the spreading of the virus will be limited. In Japan, China, Hong Kong taiwan, etc, almost everyone is wearing one. This is common sense.

If you see someone wearing a mask in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei, etc before coronvirus, what does it mean? It meant the person is probably have the flu. So why is he or she wearing? A) he or she is wearing to protect himself or herself from getting the flu or B) he or she is wearing to stop the virus from spreading.

40 per cent of infections and 87 per cent of deaths in Italy have been in patients over 70 years old. The way in which some countries code deaths is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus.

On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from covid19. You can't replicate Italy's experience with other countries. There have been several studies correlating meteorological conditions of the worst hit areas. Can't extrapolate same results to say African countries.
There are 3 ways this could be stopped. Rigorous restrictions on travels and halting spread-now impossible since already> 100 countries are affected. Second, generation of vaccine, which is actually a possibility sooner than expected since the virus is found to mutate too slowly.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...rce=alert&wpisrc=al_science__alert-hse&wpmk=1

Third, herd immunity. People must become resistant to the infection. Globally, >100000 people have recovered already. Vaccines create herd immunity too, in fact that's how smallpox was eradicated.

Again, the IMR is 0.2 percent and falling. So we're at best looking at a casualty that's about a fifth of what you mentioned globally. Ideally, Mitigation allows this balance between the immunity of the community without contributing to extreme economic decline.

I put one of those sanitizing wipes on my wife's face before I did that. Let's just say, that did not end well for me.

I can only laugh at this by now.

Germany for example has officially stated that they don't cont somebody that died from the virus as a person that died from it unless the person has been diagnosed with it beforehand and died in treatment. So um, ok?

Please go to a hospital in Italy or Spain and tell them that. They'll be glad to hear that. Honestly.

Adidas is in talks to suspend rent for all Adidas stores currently closed due to the lockdown.

Here's something to improve your mood:

Numbers from Italy are apparently being doubted and have been corrected "downwards" to prevent mass panic. Nembro at Bergamo has reported 31 deaths to the virus, which Mayor Claudio Cancelli doubted. He did the research and apparently the hospitals have "quit on counting dead people".

The same applies to Cernusco sul Naviglio, where after cross referencing death reports and hospital records, there should be six times as many deaths as reported in statistics.

The purpose of that stimulus package is for the corporations.

They initially painted it as a consumer package in order to get the American public to go with the bailout after having witnessed the first bailout which ended up as a handout.

We don't even know the end of this tunnel; so what in the world is up to a $1000 per person, $500 per child going to do long-term??

The idea isn't bad, however if the illnesses continue and cycles are broken all that will end up occurring is companies closing down anyways due to the rampant disease.

Imagine that after handing them so much bailout money with no actual guarantees (which I have seen so far) that enforces they have to run at full capacity while keeping their entire workforce?

They could never promise such because that is a ridiculous demand in itself.

In short; Trump is gambling big time that the virus dies out within two weeks because if it doesn't we're going to need another 2-4 trillion bailout by July.

Kids during this time can't understand things. There was a family with two children in the post office and the kids were chasing each other around touching everything. Pretty wild. Parenting is extremely difficult.

Ah yes. The horrors of parenting in 21. century.

"Don`t take kids to the post office."
"Kids, don`t run around the post office and don`t touch anything".

Meanwhile "good news" for Lyra. Recent Oxford study claims Covid may have infected half of the UK population already.

It's not "Italy". It's parts of Northern Italy that are overwhelmed. And as I said, they are notorious for this. Italy as a whole is not nearly at full capacity regarding ventilators. It's their regionalism that is killing them, alongside their late reaction, entering of the virus in the hospitals, smoking and ill discipline. Many countries in Europe will have to evaluate their policies of austerity regarding the medical equipment and personnel in recent times, as well as their policies of depending on China for necessary medical equipment.

Lombardy has one of the best health care systems in the country. If they are overwhelmed, what do you think will happen once the virus reaches regions with smaller capacities?

The fact that you pin this to smoking and other habits, really, completely out of touch. The Chinese far surpass Italy in tobacco consumption, smoking is a daily routine there.

You and Lyra are spearheading the "nothing happened to me yet, so they must be stupid to get it" attitude.

All I can tell you is that if it spreads half as bad in your region shit will not be funny at all.

I hope he gets better. I read that he did vote against the coronavirus funding bill but said that he needs more explanation. I do however think it's a great opportunity for people like him to reflect on a lot of things.

Somebody said "you can revive the economy but you can't revive a person" which is very true. People worry about the "socioeconomic effect" when the current priority is to find a way out of this.

Apparently even Facebook is cracking down on the virus deniers where they can, that should tell you something.

Speech yes...but the problem with Facebook and social media was people reporting false information as facts and news. Opinion is one thing, misinformation is another

You either stand for 100% free speech or you don’t. It’s too slippery of a slope to let anyone dictate or decide what can & can’t be said.

Journalism does need to be held to a higher standard of scrutiny but I’ll never advocate for censorship.
