I would guess it's higher, because these days it's mostly the old and the stupid who bother with 24 hour news networks. Hell, most people I know don't bother with any televised news, if they watch broadcast tv at all.

So, a friend of my mother in law had knee surgery, went into a rehab facility to rehabilitate...

Died 4 days later from severe respiratory distress.

Unsure if Oklahoma will allow a post-mortem test to determine if COVID-19 is floating around this place

In a pandemic it's extraordinarily dangerous to misinform people or even give some sort of feint towards leading people in a direction that could lead to misinformation. Trump was wrong and he has a responsibility to not speak out of turn about issues which he has no expertise during this time. The only correct answer is "we are evaluating all possibilities and we would advise people that we do not have a proven treatment drug at this time. Please refrain from self-medicating with unproven treatment methods that aren't advised by your physician". Functioning adults with a reasonable measure of self-awareness about the platform they hold and the responsibility they have to it don't have a difficult time with that statement. Trump does, and that simply is not acceptable. Period.

He is a conman and is comfortable selling snake oil. Conmen are not familiar with the concept of, "under promise and over perform." He looks for the conman immediate bump, and then he distracts and moves onto the next thing when people figure out the snake oil doesn't work.

It's DMV in most of the DMV. The only place it's not the DMV in the D[M]V is Maryland where it's the MVA.
Every ********ing day I go to work at a ********ing "essential business" as a ********ing "essential employee," I get more and more angry.
Many of China's foreign minister spokespeople are pushing this and have been doing it at least all weekend. I began to notice campaigns on social media on Saturday and they weren't shy about the conspiracies coming directly from these people Tom Cotton style. Vaping illnesses and a viral outbreak at a retirement village in Virginia were the top conspiracies I saw being pushed.

One of Josh's readers games this out.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/bracing-for-the-storm

"City and state leadership are doing what they can, but I think all of us have come to accept that the Trump administration will not intervene. None of us think that Trump will use his power to compel PPE or ventilator production, call for a nationwide shelter-in-place order, or do anything about the disgraceful lack of testing. Why? Because we didn’t vote for Trump. It’s as simple as that. Seattle, New York, and California aren’t Trump strongholds, so whatever happens here – even preventable deaths – is not his concern.

Trump’s plan going forward is clear. He will call for a return to “normal activity” by the end of the month, claiming he has evidence that the epidemic is slowing and the economic consequences are too great. Overwhelmed hospitals and increasing deaths in big cities will be written off as evidence that their (Democratic) mayors and governors are incompetent. If and when the epidemic spreads to Trump country, he and his minions will blame areas which suffered earlier (which, again, are conveniently all blue states) for not doing enough to stop the spread, with some way found to blame immigrants as well. And of course, all of the health care system problems that this epidemic is exposing will be ascribed to Obamacare."

    Probably a worst case scenario.

    I hope it's a worst case scenario.

My position is considered essential. People need health insurance and my job is to make sure they get covered inside the available enrollment periods.

We have the capability to do email signatures if the client has an email but most of my clients, poor, 65+, disabled, don’t.

So I meet them in person at their home.

    Essential can mean different things.

I read it as well. Very good reading. My only minor issue is that it will not be a matter of if, but rather when the pandemic will come to Trump country. It is already happening and it will even be more brutal than the NY, Ca or Wa. Please like WVa, Fl or Tx with weaker health infrastructures and aged population will be hit really hard.

First, can't even be sure this person saw the address directly and in full. Wouldn't put it past them seeing it on twitter from somebody else. Second, that is a prescription medicine in the US, so this person had to go to some lengths just to get the medicine. Given malaria is not particularly common in the US ... you really have to wonder how they got their hands on it.

At some point, personal responsibility has to come into the play. Could the message have been better ? Yes. Did he say it cured the condition ? Far from it.

EDIT: And I probably can't feel sorry for the person because they probably voted for the guy. So they got what they wished for.

Throughout that exchange, Trump consistently crept up to disagreeing with the doctor he had on stage. Sure, he ultimately backed up from being liable, but there was a lot of language that suggested it was very close to being a legitimate cure/treatment. He made the comments of "we're ordering millions of units", "I have a very good feeling about it", "No I don't think I'm being overly optimistic", "it's not going to kill anyone, it's been around for a long time". That's a TON of unnecessary speculation and salesmanlike language about a subject that is simply not an area where we can afford unnecessary speculation from a person with a platform millions of people trust. I don't trust Trump as far as I can throw him, but millions of people do, and that language from a platform millions trust is very problematic.

Surely that is exactly what will happen. He politicizes everything, turns it into good red vs. bad blue. He will do that with a virus too. It has worked for him so far in retaining the near 100% allegiance of the Republican Party. He surely thinks it will again.

This is the new Cold War. We are the Evil Empire that solidifies the Republican Party, in opposition to the threat.

So, the hotel industry in Canada has officially collapsed. At least for multiple months at best.

Hundreds are closing across the country. I'd be surprised if more than 70% of them ever reopen.

My hotel closes its doors on Thursday. I've been there over 10 years.

I'm officially on the unemployment train next Thursday.

We are going down to about 3 employees (from over 200) just to answers phones, emails and pay bills in the interim.

I have no clue how long this lasts.

    Its ********ing horrific.
