"It's not a nice feeling when you're in a supermarket shopping, and the checkout girl is thinking 'dodgy keeper'. - David James.

I was shocked when I was first introduced to the fans because they brought out a sheep, cut its head off and then smeared blood over my forehead - Manchester United's Ronnie Johnsen on life with Besiktas, Turkey

John Harkes going to Sheffield, Wednesday. - New York Post (1993)

"If we played like that every week we wouldn't be so inconsistent" - Bryan Robson, Man Utd, 1990.

"That's great, tell him he's Pele and get him back on." - John Lambie, Partick Thistle manager, when told a concussed striker did not know who he was.

Those were classics, now for some of my picks from 2004:

I left a couple of my foreigners out last week and they started talking in "foreign". I knew what they were saying: "Blah, blah, blah, le b****** manager, f****** useless b******!" - Former Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp.

We didn't think he would play on Sunday because he was suspended - that makes me think he has all the qualities to join Arsenal! - Gunners boss Arsene Wenger gives his verdict on new signing Jose Antonio Reyes.

The man is United - cut him and he bleeds red. - Alan Brazil's priceless evaluation of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Gary Lineker: So Gordon, if you were English, what formation would you play?
Gordon Strachan: If I was English I'd top myself! - Pundit Strachan shows why the BBC hired him for Euro 2004.

I'm a man of few words, but most of the ones I said to the players began with F - Reading manager Steve Coppell, following his side's 4-1 defeat at Wolves.

We're suffering because of what happened against Arsenal...one of my players would have to be hit by an axe to get a penalty at the moment. - Sir Alex Ferguson on why Manchester United did not win a penalty in the derby against City at Old Trafford.
