Sort of the way some people post on BigSoccer.

So let’s say there is no season, and we signed a player for 3 years, does this count as a year against the contract?

I’m guessing not , I also wonder if we have some more players we might add as the summer window comes if we don’t play . You can never stop improving your roster.

If MLS can pay players where other leagues can’t maybe we can vastly improve the quality of players league wide

It would depend on the contract and CBA language but I'd think it's likely the 2 games played would count as the 2020 season toward fulfilling a player's contract.

Yeah, I think 2020 counts regardless of games actually completed. What really sucks for players IMO are the ones with appearance, goals, or other individual performance incentives built into their deals.

I wonder why the Crew decided to not bring in Gareth Bale?

Cuz we are signing Falcoa didn't you get the memo? Oh wait no we are signing Gonzolo Higuain or hold not I think we are getting Messi. No non no it's Joe Hart (yes that was actual one in England when Steffen transfer was announced).

Yeah, Bale would be too high priced for our bench.

Here's a rumor since we havent had one in a bit...

    Translation:
On the other hand, the representative of Alan Franco whitewashed an imminent meeting with the leaders to put value on his card and thus negotiate his departure from the Red. Cruz Azul and Columbus Crew sound.

Alan Franco is a 23 year old, Argentine, 6'0" center back that plays for Independiente in Argentina.

Obviously could be b.s. but I'll humor it. We already have Mensah, Wormgoor, Williams, Keita, and Sjoberg. Doesnt really fill a need. But if were really preparing for a not too distant future where more than half of our CBs are over the hill, it's feasible.

    - Mensah will be 30 which isnt old, but his contract is almost up I think.
    - Wormgoor will be 32 this fall.
    - Williams is 32 and I believe his contract is up this year as well.
    - Keitas future here is promising but Porter doesnt seem ready to make him a starter yet.
    - Sjoberg is 29, and probably wont stick around long as we already have him loaned to San Antonio. USL is probably his future barring some surge in form.

I dont see Mensah leaving. While Wormgoors a significant signing, hes relatively disposable, investment wise and more of a stop gap to get us through til we find the next big thing at CB (Keita?). I could easily see Williams wanting to end on good terms with the organization and fans and letting his contract expire and Crew/MLS career end.

A 23 year old Argentine with possible interest from Liga MX as well is interesting. Possibly getting a little old to be in the eye of any European powerhouse teams but maybe good enough to turn Liga MX/MLS heads?

Just spitballin' over here. Covid19 lay-off has me realllly bored and pondering lots of stuff.

I like it would give us two young CB very smart and proactive almost like we have a real team and front office

this is nice even if it don’t happen

Yeah, if every player who changes teams is a "rat", the soccer world has a large rodent problem.

True. One thing I don't like about European soccer is that these deals are often made and finalized before the season ends. So you can have a key player who can impact a game for their future side. It's a fact that my team lost two different German Cup finals to Bayern on penalties where the player who was moving to Bayern blew a PK (Mattheus and Dante). I am not saying there was anything intentional. But it's got to play on the player's mind somewhat. It's why our leagues consider it to be "tampering".

I understand yer boy Fabian Johnson wants an MLS deal, but not demanding DP money, just a high TAM deal.

The question is whether he's on the allocation list, in which case he belongs to Miami.

I was kinda surprised he stuck there that long. But it's a good place to play. I remember talking with Keller once about it.

26 year old Ecuadorian midfielder Jonathan Borja, who's currently on loan at Cruz Azul in Liga MX, from El Nacional in Ecuador.

I know the tweet says hes a striker but from a quick search it looks like hes an attacking midfielder. 10 or wing maybe. I'm too lazy to look any deeper right now.

Not sure we really need more attacking midfielders. I'd rather us be looking at DM/CM depth.

Yeah I agree. After another look, Im thinking if were interested in this guy, it's actually as central midfield depth. I've seen that in his most recent full season he was predominately used as a 10/CAM and occasional winger but before that was a successful starter as a defensive midfielder. Hes 26 and hasnt stuck at any big club yet a team like Cruz Azul took interest so I'm guessing he would not be an instant starter but someone who can reliably relieve Nagbe, Artur, or even Zelarayan. The only specific central midfield depth we have now are our two rookie homegrowns.

If he is indeed versatile enough to play any of those central roles...he could be valuable.

Man, they keep on pouring in. I feel like somebodies just making up random rumors for fun, but I'm bored enough and deprived of Crew so I'll post em.

19 year old Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez from Cruz Azul.

He would be like our 5th striker. Seems a little surplus to needs, but maybe we drop or loan out one or two of our current guys. No idea.
